Chapter 106: Breaking the Door
Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Breaking the Door
Whoosh—
With a gust of wind, Aiven landed by the roadside. If he didn’t have to consider the girl’s fragile body, he could have run even faster.
"Young Master Aiven, what is this?" Hoyl, the coachman who had been waiting by the roadside, immediately jumped off the carriage and greeted Aiven upon his return, though he was puzzled as to why Aiven had brought back a filthy child.
"This child was abducted by traffickers and brought here. Her home is at Mog Farm. Could you please make the trip to send her back?" Aiven said to the coachman, placing the girl down and assuring her not to worry.
"Mog Farm, is it? I know the place. Actually, you need to pass through our Cooper Manor to exit the city and head to Mog Farm.
Young Master Aiven, I suggest letting this, um... young lady stay at Cooper Manor tonight. The roads to Mog Farm in the countryside are not easy to travel at night."
Hoyl immediately agreed and offered his reasonable suggestion.
"Alright, you have more experience with this. Let Aunt Daphne know and ask her to take care of the child for me." Aiven realized his oversight and willingly accepted the coachman’s advice.
"Child, you can stay at my aunt’s house with this gentleman for the night. I will visit you when I can." Aiven said warmly, squatting down to look at the frail and petite girl at eye level.
"Okay, big brother!" Although reluctant, she understood that she shouldn’t cause more trouble for her rescuer and obediently followed his arrangements.
Clip-clop...
Aiven watched as the carriage departed, having taken his luggage from it.
Then, without delay, he returned to the vicinity of the tavern where the man in the trench coat had hidden.
Opening the wooden suitcase, Aiven took out two crystal bottles filled with potions and placed them in his coat before finding a place to hide the suitcase.
He closed his eyes slightly for a few minutes, having seamlessly tapped into the Sea Bird’s surveillance network.
Soon, from the perspective of the two Needle-tailed Swifts that had been monitoring there, Aiven obtained the overall layout of the tavern. He opened his eyes and walked briskly towards the alley beside the building.
"Gurgle... gurgle..."
Aiven drank a bottle of colorless potion in one gulp, then approached several ventilation openings exposed on this side of the bar’s main building, smashing another bottle of gray potion.
Smash—
Knowing that the small-bodied swifts had already investigated the interior layout of the bar, Aiven was confident that the reserved ventilation openings allowed fresh air from outside into every room of the building.
Of course, they now included some not-so-"fresh" elements mixed into the fresh air.
After absorbing a wealth of precious theoretical knowledge from the "Shadow Library", and integrating Leon’s notes with Tru’s memories, Aiven had achieved some modest results. These two potions were one such practice work.
The effect...
The potion splattered on the ground quickly vaporized, forming an almost imperceptible light gray mist hovering one to three meters above the ground, which slowly flowed into the building with the air circulation.
To enhance the efficiency, Aiven summoned four or five Great Albatrosses with wingspans nearing five meters, having them flap their wings to help the mist enter the ventilation more swiftly.
At this moment, the revelers in the bar, the Blood Hand Gang thugs, and even the hidden man in the trench coat were oblivious to it.
"Master Sean, your medicine has arrived."
In a hidden underground room behind the bar, the wide-brimmed hat had been removed, revealing the pale, blood-drained face covered with bizarrely blood-red lines belonging to the man in the trench coat, also known as Master Sean, slumped in a chair.
Large droplets of sweat dripped from his forehead, forming a small puddle on the floor beneath him.
Hearing the door open, Sean opened blood-red eyes that seemed ready to shed tears of blood. He glared at the minion cautiously entering with a blue potion, as if about to swallow both him and the potion.
The well-built minion approached Sean, legs trembling, attempting to lower his presence by bending over.
Whether by delusion or not, a strong sulfuric stench filled the room, making him quite uncomfortable.
Though unaware of any internal details, the burly minion appointed to deliver the potion felt an inexplicable unease upon entering, as if stepping into a predator’s lair, giving him the creeps.
"Huff—"
Harsh, hot breathing resounded from above his lowered head; the minion dared not look up and raised the potion bottle to Sean.
"Clink!"
"Gurgle gurgle... whew—"
Hearing Sean drink the potion, the minion secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Since this seemingly frenzied gentleman could drink normally, he must be safe, right?
Unfortunately...
"Squelch... boom, boom, boom!"
’What does the gentleman hold in his hand, still beating?’ the minion wondered, as the icy feeling rising from his chest drowned him out. In his final moment on the floor, he recognized it—a heart, his own heart...
"Having seen me in such a sorry state, how could I let you live? That Old Hyena sure is a clever man!"
After drinking the potion, Sean’s condition improved significantly, recovering from the verge of losing control.
Taking out a handkerchief to wipe the blood from his hands, his already sullen face darkened with a fierce malevolence, his venomous words squeezing out like a chilling wind from the depths of hell:
"Dare to provoke the Blood Hand Gang? Whoever you are, we’ll find you! Your friends, family, they’ll all suffer the most brutal revenge!!!"
Nearly losing control and going berserk from the ability’s overuse while losing the "goods" for this transaction, his heart brimmed with hatred for Aiven, vowing retribution.
"Hmm? Why so quiet?"
Suddenly, his expression changed; something seemed amiss.
Though the underground chamber was very secluded with good soundproofing, the outside was a notoriously noisy bar, making it impossible for all sound to be blocked.
Propping himself up on the chair to stand, Sean felt a slight dizziness, which he dismissed as his unrecovered state.
He had just reached the door.
Crash—
The heavy door shattered into pieces, and a black silhouette pounced into the room.
Sean swiftly retreated while releasing two Flying Sabers.
"Thud!" "Thud!"
The sound of hitting a sack made his heart sink as he quickly dodged to the corner.
Regret surged through Sean’s mind; he had foolishly chosen a single-exit, windowless basement room with his cloudy mind. Now, being cornered was a real problem!
