Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Appearance and Gunfire
Tap.. tap.. tap..
Watching this man who seemed nothing like a good person approach step by step, the girl was terrified and attempted to back away. But because her hands and feet were tied, she couldn’t move at all, and accidentally hit her forehead on the ground, tears instantly welling up.
"Ha—!"
With a sneer, cold, iron-like fingers pinched the girl’s chin, forcing her to face him.
From the shadow beneath the brim of his hat, a pair of dark red eyes stared greedily at the girl’s dirty little face, like a snake eyeing its prey.
After a while.
"Why do you always bring these malnourished, skin-and-bones goods to me? Hmm?" After confirming the "cargo" met his standards in his own way, the man in the trench coat expressed dissatisfaction with its quality.
Though the "cargo’s" health status didn’t significantly impact the matter, healthy "cargo" was ultimately better quality!
"Sir, we don’t want this either. But only these unwanted little brats growing up in gutters won’t be missed if they disappear, right?
We’re also afraid of attracting the City Guard, risking our lives is one thing, but disturbing your important work is unacceptable. Moreover, no children in the city can make the stones glow lately; we found this one on a nearby farm."
The "boss" among the underlings smiled ingratiatingly, nodding and bowing to the man in the trench coat, emphasizing his hardships.
"Forget it, I won’t make it hard for you. This one is still the original price, but within three days, you must bring me at least one more, can you do that?" The man in the trench coat waved his hand carelessly, instructing as if generously.
The boss looked troubled, wearing a pained expression, "We spent a whole week finding this little girl outside the city, three days? ... This... this..."
"I don’t care how you do it, if there are no more orphans, go to the commoners’ children, if not them, then find those small merchants without background.
But it must be a child who can make the stones glow! If I find you’ve dared to fool me, heh heh, perhaps sinking yourselves into the bay might make your passing more peaceful!"
Under the cold predator-like gaze of the man in the trench coat, the two underlings felt as if their lives were no longer their own, just like the girl earlier, unable to say a word of refusal.
"Y-Yes... yes... sir! We under...." their trembling words were cut off by a loud shout from the man in the trench coat.
"Who goes there?!"
Tap.. Tap.. Tap...
The sound of boots on the ground approached unhurriedly.
The man in the trench coat and his two underlings turned their eyes towards the shadows cast by the buildings on the side closer to the slums.
Even the girl, writhing on the ground like a worm trying to escape, couldn’t help but lift her head, hoping the unexpected visitor would become her savior!
Under everyone’s gaze, a tall figure strolled out of the alley and stepped into the moonlight.
A white shirt, deep blue officer trousers, boots on his feet, it was a handsome, fair-skinned young man.
The young man’s hand rested on the sword hilt at his waist. Just standing there, he was like a poised spear, an aura shooting straight into the sky!
In the grimy darkness of the slum, his presence was like a 3D object in a 2D background, dazzlingly prominent...
"A do-gooder!"
The young man’s calm and composed reply made the man in the trench coat and the two underlings suspicious, yet to the girl, it was like a bright, warm light piercing her despairing heart.
Because Aiven was only wearing casual clothes, and with his overly youthful appearance, he bore no resemblance to the renowned powerhouses in "New Inn Port." The man in the trench coat presumed he was a Navy Academy student.
Seemingly from some unpleasant past recollection, he jeered:
"Ha... hypocrite! You so-called righteous self-proclaimed heroes are truly nauseating!"
Aiven, however, saw no need to banter with them. The moment he saw this heinous trafficking operation through the Sea Bird’s vision, he had already condemned them to death.
Perhaps in this world, human trafficking was considered legal, but for Aiven, who had been exposed to true modern civilization, it was intolerable!
If not for the fact that the ’hostage’ was still at their feet, he would have long drawn his sword to reform these scum.
Unfortunately, Aiven’s caution was perceived by them as a lack of nerve.
"Just a little brat with no hair on his chest, what are you afraid of? Go! Slaughter him for me."
The man in the trench coat thought this ignorant boy was just trying to bluff, possibly wanting to stall until his backup, like the City Guard, arrived...
But being cautious by nature, he ordered the two underlings to test him, and though losing those two capable men was unfortunate, underlings existed to take hits for big shots like him, didn’t they?
He saw nothing wrong with that.
The two underlings exchanged glances, equally doubting the boy in front of them could pose any threat. Drawing the knives from their belts, they moved in on Aiven with cruel intent.
One step, two steps...
The girl’s heartbeat accelerated as well, worrying for this exceptionally good-looking boy.
Those who worked in human trafficking were worse than common thugs, having long since lost their consciences, and killing posed no hurdle for them.
Furthermore, they had long despised Aiven for his clean and neat attire, handsome features, and exceptional demeanor. Compared to them, they seemed like bugs in the mud.
Upon first sighting him, a crazy thought surged within: either drag him into the mud to become like them or destroy him on the spot!
"Kid, don’t blame us, blame yourself for meddling where you shouldn’t."
The two were now mere steps away from Aiven, raising their knives high.
It was odd that Aiven neither fled nor cried out, perhaps they thought he was acting the hero and had now been scared stiff, and then the knives descended sharply!
But at this moment, a silver light flashed.
*Clang—*
The longsword returned to its sheath, and Aiven was already behind the two underlings.
*Thud!* *Thud!*
Like two wood piles, they collapsed lifelessly to the ground.
"So fast!"
The man in the trench coat’s dark red pupils slightly contracted, realizing that while the two underlings were merely strong ordinary men, it wasn’t something a common person could do to dispatch them in an instant.
No longer hesitating now he made his move, Aiven paused momentarily, then launched himself like a cannonball towards the obvious lead perp, the man in the trench coat.
*Whoosh—*
"Your end is here!"
The trench-coated man, equally swift in his reaction, reached into his coat, pulling out an ivory-handled, silver double-barreled firearm in his hand as he leapt back.
*Bang—*
*Bang—*
The twin barrels aligned vertically erupted almost simultaneously with bright gunfire, two slightly reddish bullets tracing beautiful arcs through the air, shooting towards Aiven’s knees.
