Chapter 306

Jake took a closer look at the two newly grown structures. Both were egg-shaped and human-sized, with front sections featuring viewports to see inside. Each contained a chamber. The inside of the Extractor was empty, while that of the Creation Chamber was filled with greenish viscous liquid.

He decided to start with the Creation Chamber first. With a thought, he summoned its description.

Name: Creation Chamber

Description: It allows you to evolve your basic creature types into more powerful forms. To do that, you need to enter creation mode, where you can transform your chosen creature into another form. Once completed, a full list of all resources required for the creature’s evolution will be presented to you.

Rank: I

Enter Creation Mode: Y/N

Evolve to Rank II: Y/N (Cost: 100 Biomass, 10,000 MP)

Jake had three basic types of creatures that could be evolved into more powerful ones. He wasn’t sure if he could change the three basic types into completely different forms. Could he, for example, change a basic roach into a spider?

If he could, it meant he was given three different basic types simply to help him establish an initial direction for their evolution. However, once he got the hang of the process, it likely wouldn’t matter which creature he used to create a new type, as he would be able to transform each of the basic types into something completely different.

But if he couldn’t, it meant that each of the three basic types was designed to create a unique new creature: a roach would evolve into a slower but more protected unit, while a spider would become a weaker but faster and more agile one.

Jake decided to use a spider for his initial test. He looked at one of his spiders crawling aimlessly around his lair and gave it a mental command to enter the Creation Chamber. The spider immediately obeyed, scuttling across the Corruption. It approached the structure, and when an entrance popped open at the base, it crawled inside.

Jake kept looking through the viewport at the chamber. A few seconds later, he saw an opening appear at the top of the chamber, and the spider emerged. Carried by an invisible force, it floated toward the middle of the liquid-filled chamber, where it came to a motionless hover.

For a second, he continued staring at the spider, but nothing else happened. It appeared the creature was prepared for further development. He issued a mental command to enter creation mode. Immediately, his vision was completely filled with an image of the chamber filled with greenish liquid, where the spider floated. Next to the creature, its current stats were displayed.

Name: Spider

Rank: I

Size: Small

Strength: 5% (Common)

Constitution: 5% (Common)

Agility: 10% (Common)

Intelligence: 5% (Common)

Magick: 5% (Common)

Special abilities: None

Jake examined the spider’s stats—nothing to write home about, but that was to be expected, of course. After he evolved the spider into a more powerful form, the stats should go up as well.

He also noticed that the resultant spider would be Rank I, even though the one he had used was Rank II. This was understandable, as the structure’s rank was Rank I and therefore couldn’t create creatures of a higher rank than itself.

Jake also figured that if he compared two spiders, the first at Rank I and the second at Rank II, with identical stats, the Rank II spider would obviously be more powerful than its Rank I counterpart.

He wondered if he could summon more information about the creature’s attributes. While the stats were mostly self-explanatory, he wanted to check for any additional details. He attempted to summon more information about the stats, and it actually appeared before him.

Strength: Measures how strong the creature is and how much damage it can deal in close combat.

Constitution: Represents resilience and stamina, increasing the creature’s resistance to injuries. A high Constitution means the creature can handle tough situations better.

Agility: Reflects how quick and flexible the creature is. It improves its reflexes as well as affects how well it can dodge attacks and move swiftly.

Intelligence: Represents the creature’s cognitive ability. Higher Intelligence grants it problem-solving skills that assist in combat and helps it analyze situations, acting accordingly without needing additional commands from you.

Magick: Relates to mana management and mana-requiring skills. Higher Magick allows the creature to manage mana more effectively, reducing the amount of mana consumed over time and increasing the effectiveness of its mana-dependent skills.

Now, the question was how he could evolve the spider into a more powerful form. What exactly should he do?

It turned out to be simpler than he thought. All he needed was to use his imagination. As he envisioned the spider transforming into a new form, it began to change according to his mental commands.

However, he was aware that this transformation was only occurring in the creation mode, while the real spider, suspended in the liquid-filled chamber, remained unchanged for the time being.

Jake spent some time focused on altering the spider’s form. Rather than going wild with changes, he chose to maintain its overall shape for the moment, even though he had the ability to transform it into something entirely different, as he had just learned.

He made the spider somewhat larger, giving it longer legs and a more robust body. After that, he checked the spider’s stats again to see how they had changed. Its Strength increased from 5% to 7%, and its Constitution rose from 5% to 8%.

However, its Agility decreased from 10% to 7%, and its Magick dropped from 5% to 3%. A bigger, more robust body meant less agility and more mana consumption, which was far from ideal. Jake aimed for the spider to retain its speed and agility while boosting its strength and damage resistance.

Jake continued trying to get what he wanted. Eventually, he managed to increase the size of the spider by about 20%, elongating its legs and even adding a new pair. He also transformed the shape of its legs, giving them the appearance of curved blades.

He also enlarged the spider’s fangs, making them more dangerous and powerful. Additionally, he altered its mouth, widening it and filling it with large, pointed teeth.

While Jake made these changes, he focused on keeping the body proportions consistent to boost the spider’s stats instead of letting them go down.

Below the spider’s stats were listed the resources needed for its evolution into a new form. As he boosted the creature’s stats, the resource demands escalated as well, but he didn’t give them much attention for the moment.

Besides Strength, Constitution, and Agility, Jake also aimed to increase the spider’s Intelligence and Magic. He wasn’t quite sure how to achieve that, though. However, when he attempted to simply boost these attributes, they actually increased. As he did so, the creature’s overall shape remained unchanged, aside from becoming a bit larger.

Below the creature’s stats and required resources was a line showing the chance of successful evolution. Jake couldn’t help but notice that when he tried to maximize all of the spider’s stats, not only did the resource demands increase, but the chances of successful evolution decreased. In contrast, adopting a more balanced approach led to improved success rates.

Finally, Jake got what he wanted. He gave the creature one last look, admiring his work. The spider was now larger than before, boasting ten long, powerful, curved, blade-like legs and a large, menacing mouth.

Jake then turned his attention to the spider’s stats.

Name: Spider

Rank: I

Size: Small

Strength: 16% (Common)

Constitution: 17% (Common)

Agility: 20% (Common)

Intelligence: 19% (Common)

Magick: 18% (Common)

Special abilities: None

Jake couldn’t help but notice the last line of text. His spider could clearly possess some special abilities, but he had no idea how to unlock them. It appeared that he couldn’t grant any abilities to his creation just yet. Perhaps he needed to upgrade the Creation Chamber to a higher rank or construct an additional structure. He figured he would find out at a later time.

There was one more thing Jake noticed. He couldn’t increase the stats beyond 20%, no matter how hard he tried. This limitation puzzled him. He pondered whether it was related to the rarity of the stats, and if that was the case, he wondered how he could increase their rarity.

Perhaps he needed to evolve the Creation Chamber to a higher rank, or maybe there was something else that needed to be done. One thing was for sure: he couldn’t increase the rarity of the stats with just a simple thought.

After reviewing the resulting stats of the spider, he shifted his gaze to the list of resources needed for its evolution.

Resources:

150 Biomass

5,500 MP

40 Brain Matter

75 Rigidbone

Evolve the spider: Y/N (Chances of Success: 78%)

The chance of success was quite promising, so there was a strong likelihood that the spider would successfully evolve into the form he had just crafted. However, there was a small problem: he couldn’t initiate the evolution process right now because he lacked the necessary resources.

Where and how could he obtain Brain Matter and Rigidbone—whatever the latter was? He had a strong suspicion that he would find answers to these questions after examining the second structure that had recently grown, the Extractor.

Saving his progress, he exited creation mode and directed his attention to the Extractor.
