Evil dragon has a warm heart
Chapter 590 - 590 588 Death Intent

Chapter 590: Chapter 588: Death Intent Chapter 590: Chapter 588: Death Intent In the Changting of the Molten Fire Duchy, Russell truly experienced what it meant for an entire nation to mourn.

The low and deep sound of wailing echoed throughout Changting, irrespective of the time of day, continuing from dawn to dusk, with even the wind seeming to carry the scent of tears.

The temperature was still scorching.

But it lacked the vitality of a burning sensation and felt more like the lingering, muggy heat brought on by a false autumn.

White flags fluttered all over Changting, the plain fabric used only during funerals, while black banners also stretched across the streets, a tribute to both the Meltdown Dragon and Duke Fritz Moltenfire.

In the distance,

A large number of Bipedal Flying Dragons circled above the Meltdown Volcano, their cries as heart-wrenching as if blood was shed from doves.

They were wailing for their king!

Groups of ragged humans knelt at the foot of the Meltdown Volcano, kneeling their way up the mountain. Numerous Knights stood at every corner of the volcano, looking up at the caldera, silently mourning the Meltdown Dragon.

This already extinguished volcano continued to live in the hearts of mankind.

Russell, riding on Sacred Unicorn Polly, slowed from 3 Mach to normal speed before swiftly flying towards Changting.

The sorrowful atmosphere in Changting somewhat influenced his emotions.

Quietly landing on the landing platform of Changting, the area designated for Bipedal Flying Dragons, no sooner had Russell touched the ground than the guards of Changting came forward to greet him.

Instantly, Polly turned into double folded lightning, branding itself on Russell’s head.

This scene left the guards stunned, having never witnessed such a unique way of Phantom Beast integration – Phantom Beast Knights’ beasts could only shadow blend or transform into armor. However, the profound and immeasurable pressure emanating from Russell ensured that the guards dared not show any negligence.

“May I ask who you are?”

“Russell Fluorescent Fungus, from the Shadowflame Duchy, here to pay respects to the Meltdown Dragon and Duke Fritz,” Russell articulated carefully, to prevent any misunderstanding due to his accent.

Even so, the guard hesitated for a moment before exclaiming, “You are the Grand Duke from Shadowflame? My apologies, Your Grace the Grand Duke, we weren’t informed of your arrival, such disrespect! I will immediately announce your presence!”

Moments later.

In the throng of people who had hastily arrived, Russell saw the heir to Duke Fritz, his nominal student, Viscount Fred.

“Your Grace the Grand Duke!” Viscount Fred bowed deeply, his demeanor much more composed and restrained, his eyes bloodshot, “I learned of your planned visit through the thunder, but Changting is currently… in disarray, and the guards were not notified, failing to welcome you from afar.”

“It’s all right, I understand,” Russell nodded, “Fred, be strong and accept this change.”

Then, several nobles standing next to Fred saluted Russell, all of them significant nobility from the Molten Fire Duchy.

With the crowd around him, Russell went deep into Changting’s main hall to pay his respects to the remains of Duke Fritz.

The Meltdown Dragon had fallen, its body taken by the Frost Giants, leaving no chance to behold its visage.

Furthermore,

At this point in time, the Meltdown Dragon would have been nearly refined by the Frost Giants into something resembling a Frost Star Bead. Perhaps the Frost Giants had already devoured the Meltdown Dragon and were now assimilating the dragon’s Origin Power, seeking evolution.

“Viscount Fred, I would like to pay homage at the Meltdown Volcano,” Russell requested.

Fred personally led the way, his voice laden with melancholy, “Please follow me, Your Grace. Now that the Meltdown Volcano has been extinguished, the underground passages have collapsed, and we can only enter through the volcano’s mouth.”

He mounted a bipedal flying dragon.

Russell took a careful look at the bipedal flying dragon, whose scales had a large number of cracks, and even its skin had a multitude of fissures. The wing membranes of its wings were tattered, sporting several small holes.

It was as if its entire body had begun to decay.

The power of the dragon breath had not dissipated due to the decay of the body; instead, it seemed as if the dragon breath, deprived of the radiation of dragonflame power, began to deteriorate into another form.

Noticing Russell observing his mount, the bipedal flying dragon, Fred spoke in a grave tone, “Your Grace, the Grand Duke, might have never seen the decline of a bipedal flying dragon. Once we reach the crater, Your Grace can capture one and observe it closely.”

Russell did not refuse, “Alright.”

“Your Grace is the pioneer and pinnacle of the Way of the Knight; you may find inspiration in the downfall of the bipedal flying dragons,” Fred sighed, “This may be one of the last few things my Molten Fire Duchy can do for the survival of humanity.”

“Don’t be so pessimistic, Fred,” Russell consoled, “Although the meltdown dragon has fallen, the people of the Molten Fire Duchy still need to carry on its will and continue to thrive on the Dragon Sleep Continent. Your responsibility is still significant.”

Fred slowly nodded, his eyes showing an unusual fervor, as if he wanted to say something but did not immediately speak.

Thus he accompanied Russell, flying into the Meltdown Volcano from the crater.

In the magma pool, scorching breaths billowed endlessly, but the dragon’s oppressive presence had dissipated. This place was left as an ordinary volcano, unable to draw strength from beneath the earth any longer, unable to radiate warmth to its surroundings.

“So this is what an extinguished volcano looks like,” Russell reached out, feeling the breath within the crater.

“Death… really is quite a terrifying thing,” Polly also expressed with empathy, “Warmth is stripping away from here; it’s a strange feeling to actually sense a chill in a volcano.”

“This is not a chill from reality; it’s the coldness of death that the soul senses.”

“Russell, do you think Ice Cream can erupt in this volcano’s ruins and then save this country?”

“In theory, yes, but Ice Cream is still in a light slumber, too disconnected to communicate such detailed content,” Russell shook his head inwardly, “And actually, I don’t want Ice Cream to erupt here, too far from the Shadowflame Duchy.”

“Hehe,” Polly joked, “Sonbra has the gift of Quiet Dream teleportation; you could easily manage both sides.”

“Er… That’s true, but it’s complicated in terms of legal precedent. I am a subject of the Shadowflame Duchy. The direct lineage of the Flamecrest Dragonblood Family has ceased, which is why I was able to take someone’s place and form an agreement with the Shadowflame.”

If the direct lineage of the Flamecrest Dragonblood Family hadn’t ceased, the Shadowflame Dragon wouldn’t have so readily cast off the power of its binding contracts.

And started afresh with Russell.

But the Molten Fire Duchy was different. Although the dragon had fallen in battle, the bloodline of the Molten Fire Dragon Blood Family was prospering. If Russell allowed the Little Dream Dragon to erupt here, it would clearly seem like nesting invasion, and the Moltenfire Family remained the true masters of this land.

Russell had already replaced one Dragonblood Family and did not wish to replace another; uninformed people might think he enjoyed seizing others’ foundations.

“Fred,” Russell turned around.

“Your Grace the Grand Duke.”

“I want to stay in the Meltdown Volcano to reflect deeply; I shall stay here tonight,” Russell said, “There are many affairs to attend to in Changting; you may deal with them… Before coming here, I spoke with King Ares and will properly assist in the relocation of your citizens.”

“On behalf of the Molten Fire Duchy’s displaced people, I thank Your Grace!” Fred bowed deeply.

He glanced at Russell, who was now sitting cross-legged on the edge of the magma pool, and couldn’t help but ask, “Your Grace, would you and King Ares receive all the citizens of the Molten Fire Duchy? Eight million people is a huge burden for any country.”

“Yes, I can accept them all by myself,” Russell nodded firmly, “You don’t need to worry about that.”

That was precisely what he lacked—people!

Fred finally breathed a sigh of relief, then with renewed hope, he asked, “Your Grace, Fred has lost everything. May I travel to the Shadowflame Duchy and follow you, to start anew under your banner?”
