Chapter 405: Chapter 404: The Torrent Returns (Extra Chapter, Request for Monthly Votes) Chapter 405: Chapter 404: The Torrent Returns (Extra Chapter, Request for Monthly Votes) When the Snow Demon leaped out from beneath the ice cap at that moment, it was no longer a Snow Demon, but an Ice Soul Pearl.
Oh.
Or possibly two Ice Soul Pearls.
“Secret Technique: Sword of Thunder!” Russell’s sword sliced through the sky, instantly shattering the fleeing Snow Demon into pieces.
Ever since he had grasped the essence of swordsmanship and mastered the elemental power of thunder.
Russell would typically start with the Secret Technique: Sword of Thunder, for as the saying goes, even when a lion hunts a rabbit, it uses all its strength, aiming for a decisive strike that determines life or death. Moreover, the energy consumed by the Secret Technique: Sword of Thunder was not much more than that of ordinary moves.
So why not use the Secret Technique: Sword of Thunder with every move?
“Once I’ve grasped the elemental powers of the other elements, my swordsmanship will truly be capable of destroying heaven and earth!” Russell declared, patting the neck of the Black Oil Dragon Ross.
The Black Oil Dragon swooped down past the shattered Snow Demon.
Russell quickly used Fighting Spirit Dragon Warrior, transforming into a giant shadowy hand that slapped the remnants of the Snow Demon, grinding it to dust and revealing two Ice Soul Pearls within, which Russell easily harnessed using Fighting Spirit Sword Control.
“Double yolk, yummy!” Russell exclaimed with a pleased smile.
The Demon Subduing Order policy had not been revoked, so as a Flying Dragon Knight, he still had to deliver twenty Ice Soul Pearls to Red Castle every year.
This border patrol was the perfect opportunity to gather the full quota of twenty Ice Soul Pearls.
Afterward, he would go to the Snowfield to fight on his own, preparing ample nutrition for the Little Dream Dragon to help it erupt like a volcano sooner rather than later.
“Russell, your combat strength is truly breathtaking,” Earl Merlin said, arriving by dragon.
“Grandfather, you flatter me.”
“It is not flattery; it is the truth,” Earl Merlin said, admiring the spirited young man on the dragon’s back.
Eighteen-year-old Russell still had the appearance of a handsome young man.
That made Earl Merlin involuntarily think of the Former Grand Duke, Quentin III Shadowflame.
In his youth, he had followed Quentin III into many battles, and at that time, Quentin was also a handsome young man who became a Dragon Knight at a tender age.
Of course, compared to the gentle and elegant Russell, Quentin was much more domineering.
As Earl Merlin thought of this, he couldn’t help but let out a chuckle, which he promptly stifled, before turning serious and saying, “However, your combat methods are too limited. Along the way, I have not seen you use the Dragon Breath Starburst, why is that?”
“Uh, I haven’t learned it yet,” Russell answered truthfully.
“It’s a basic skill for Flying Dragon Knights; you’ve been riding dragons for half a year now, it’s high time you got to grips with this lesson,” Earl Merlin said, looking over at Russell, whose Mark of the Thunder Lord was no longer visible on his forehead after exiting battle mode, “A Dragon Domain Lord and a Flying Dragon Knight should be equally skilled; don’t overly specialize.”
Russell laughed, “Grandfather, you worry too much. The Sword of Thunder I wield is an essence of swordsmanship, not a technique of the Dragon Domain Lord.”
“An essence of swordsmanship?” Earl Merlin was surprised, “Are you saying that you’ve already understood… the elemental powers?”
“You know about the elemental powers too, Grandfather?”
“Of course, that is the realm of the Dragon Knight!” Earl Merlin’s surprise intensified, and even his Manganese Steel Dragon couldn’t help but turn its head and fix Russell with a gaze of deep astonishment and bewilderment.
The Manganese Steel Dragon had met Russell on the Earl’s birthday; back then, Russell was an insignificant figure.
The Manganese Steel Dragon had never taken Russell seriously, too lazy even to snort a greeting in response.
But now, Russell was not only a Flying Dragon Knight and a Dragon Domain Lord, he had also grasped the elemental powers that only a Dragon Knight could wield.
The dragons were incarnations of the elements.
The elemental powers were always the prerogative of the Divine Spirits, and only Dragon Knights, as companions to dragons, were qualified to wield the elemental powers and exhibit god-like abilities. Any other person could not overstep this chasm between the mundane and the divine.
Yet, it was this very chasm between the mundane and the divine that Russell had completely shattered by mastering swordsmanship.
Hoo-hoo.
The Manganese Steel Dragon exhaled two streams of Dragon Breath from its nostrils, venting the complex emotions in its heart, and at that moment, it felt a sense of fear towards Russell.
Count Merlin sharply sensed his companion’s thoughts and was all the more shaken. His own grandson had become, in essence, a Dragon Knight. If the Shadowflame Dragon was the Grand Duchy’s divine being, then Russell was nearly a demi-god, just below divinity.
“No wonder… with control over elemental forces, who would want to spend their efforts on the trivial tactics of Flying Dragon Knights?”
Count Merlin thought somewhat amusingly.
Yet, in the end, he chose to be stubborn: “The finesse of Swordsmanship Secret Techniques is intricate, but there’s no harm in having more skills at hand.”
“I understand, Grandpa,” Russell responded with a smile.
Immediately, Black Oil Dragon Ross let out a roar, spread its wings, and flew into the distance, leaving Russell’s voice echoing, “Grandpa, I’m going to look around for the Snow Demon. I’ll be back soon.”
Having activated Speed Increase with Thunder, Ross’s speed was as fast as lightning.
It soared into the depths of the snowfield with a howl and quickly located a Snow Demon leisurely wandering on the Snowfield, surrounded by a large swarm of Snow Ghosts.
“Lucky day!”
Russell laughed heartily, suddenly entering battle mode. He raised the Meteor Butterfly Sword high, and Secret Technique: Sword of Thunder struck once again.
Crackle!
Like the Master of Thunder enraged, the Snow Demon was defeated without any chance of retaliation by Russell. The jumping lightning used the Snow Demon as the center, radiating outwards, turning the crowds of Snow Ghosts into charred husks, dissipated into ashes by the wind.
Fighting Spirit Sword Control executed, an Ice Soul Pearl and numerous Ice Pellet Pearls clinked into Russell’s pockets.
“I’m making money, making money. I don’t even know how to spend it, left hand buys a Nokia, right hand buys a Motorola…”
As Russell hummed the song, he performed rapid lightning strikes, wiping out all Snow Ghosts, not leaving a single Ice Pellet behind.
This was all money!
Gold Coins!
“Russell, what song is that you’re humming? It sounds terrible,” Unicorn Polly complained in their mental connection about Russell’s taste in music.
“This song is called ‘I’m Making Money’!” Russell laughed heartily.
Though Polly found it unpleasant, Black Oil Dragon Ross listened with great interest and even let out a dragon’s roar to cheer for Russell.
“Good, my Ross understands me!”
“Roar!” Ross, upon receiving praise, performed a spiral in the sky, then as if in a crash, drifted down like a falling leaf, only to suddenly pull up, completing an Immelmann maneuver on dry land.
These were maneuvers Russell, with nothing better to do, had taught him, based on fighter aircrafts.
Immelmann turns, Leaf on the Wind, Bell Tolls, Barrel Rolls, along with maneuvers such as the Cobra and the Frolov Chakra, and so on.
Whenever Ross found flight dull or got excited, he would perform these stunts.
The agility of a Bipedal Flying Dragon in the air was countless times greater than that of a fighter jet. And it wasn’t their wings flapping that allowed them to fly; it was the surge of Magic Power. So Ross could perform any complex and high-difficulty maneuver.
The combination of Knight, Pseudo-Dragon, and Flying Dragon was showing off in the sky with a song.
All of a sudden.
A colossal roar echoed between heaven and earth from the west, a Dragon’s call Russell was already familiar with.
“Hmm!”
The clouds trembled, the snow and wind paused, and nothing was clear.
Russell, along with Polly and Ross, stopped their playful antics and looked towards the snow-enveloped west, frowning, “This is… the voice of the Torrential Flood Dragon. Could Cousin Mel have actually brought reinforcements from the Scorching Torrent Kingdom?”
Without further thought, he immediately rode Ross back to regroup with the Dragon Blood Knights and Count Merlin.
