Evil dragon has a warm heart
Chapter 380 - 380 379 Earl Osclos Oppression

Chapter 380: Chapter 379: Earl Osclo’s Oppression Chapter 380: Chapter 379: Earl Osclo’s Oppression Between the Golden Prairie and the Gravel Domain lies the Goldstone Trade Route, connecting two Warm Enclaves; even during the icy periods, caravans occasionally traverse this path.

Currently on the Goldstone Trade Route, a convoy is traveling swiftly.

Overhead, a three-headed bipedal flying dragon circles, and Earl Osclo of Willow Clan rides a Nightmare Specter Horse, his brows furrowed as he gazes ahead, contemplating how to dominate the situation after reaching Golden Top Castle.

“That dandy, Davis, actually died in the Snowfield.” Earl Osclo had not wished for Davis’s demise.

After all, Davis had been a supporter of his son Augustus.

But as things stood, complaining was useless. Osclo thought to himself, “Well then, I might as well take this opportunity to help Dyson ascend and firmly seize control of the Golden Prairie… Although Dyson is not a Flying Dragon Knight, having a baron’s title should suffice.”

Thinking this, he involuntarily lifted his head to look at the three-headed bipedal flying dragon hovering above.

A surge of confidence emerged: “What of a Flying Dragon Knight, with three dragons in my family! Among the great nobility, the contest is who has more dragons!”

The corners of his mouth curved up slightly.

He thought of Roman and his son Russell: “Having two Flying Dragon Knights in one family is indeed remarkable, but so what, I have three dragons! Even if Lady Robi has the support of Roman and his son, she cannot change the overwhelming trend of Dyson’s ascension.”

Meanwhile.

Inside the carriage, Osclo’s wife, Madam Quenly Shadowflame, was speaking to her daughter-in-law, Davin.

“Once we reach Golden Top Castle, you must not weaken your presence. Although you come from a humble background, you are ultimately the daughter-in-law of the Willow Clan. When Augustus ascends to the rank of Grand Duke, you will be the Duchess, so you must carry yourself with that authority!”

“Yes, mother,” Davin replied softly.

Madam Quenly frowned upon seeing this meek and compliant attitude, deeming it too provincial, clearly indicative of her lowly origins.

But on second thought, if she had been from a distinguished family, even with her own descent from the Inferno Dragonblood Family, she might not have been able to control her freely.

There’s a loss for every gain.

Hence, taking the daughter of a minor noble as a daughter-in-law had its advantages, at least for a mother-in-law like herself, often mistreated by her husband, she could manipulate and posture against her daughter-in-law as she pleased.

The vexation of her husband’s mistreatment could all be vented on her daughter-in-law.

“Our goal this time is to elevate your brother Dyson, so do not tarnish the name of the Willow Clan,” Madam Quenly instructed, “You and I must work together to suppress Robi, and the rest will be arranged by your father-in-law.”

“Yes, mother, I’ll follow your lead,” Davin responded, head bowed.

Madam Quenly nodded, satisfied: “Good.”

Two days later.

The convoy arrived at the border catacombs of the Golden Prairie where knights were already waiting to greet them, and shortly after, Lord Dyson, dressed in plain attire, hurried over on horseback.

“Earl, my lady, sister,” Dyson greeted with a bow.

Earl Osclo immediately asked, “What is the situation at Golden Top Castle now, what’s being said in the clan after your uncle’s demise?”

“The clan is mourning for my uncle; for the time being… for the time being, the matter of succession has not been discussed,” Dyson replied.

“This should be settled promptly,” Osclo declared, taking charge, “Lead the way. I’m going to Golden Top Castle to meet with Lady Robi, the elders of your family, and the few knights who served under Davis, to facilitate your succession.”

“Thank you, my lord, for taking charge on my behalf,” Dyson responded immediately, grateful, and followed on horseback behind Osclo.

He then softly reminded, “My lord, Lady Robi’s nephew, Lord Russell, has already arrived.”

“Russell?” Osclo narrowed his eyes and glanced skyward at the three-headed bipedal flying dragon, responding indifferently, “A mere youth, no concern.”

Dyson breathed a sigh of relief: “That reassures me.”

“During the funeral, take the opportunity to console the Peat Dragon, for you rarely have the chance to interact with it. Only if you gain the Peat Dragon’s approval can you, as the future Baron, truly stand by Augustus’s side and speak on his behalf.”

“I will follow Earl Oskolo’s arrangement and find an opportunity to comfort Lord Howard,” Dyson said.

A short while later, the procession arrived at Golden Top Castle.

Black cloth hung everywhere in Golden Top Castle, and the servants as well as the knights had all donned black attire.

In the Grand Duchy of Shadowflame, black represents death, and it is customary to wear black to funerals.

As Davis had no remains, only some of his usual clothing was burned, and then the ashes were scattered into his grave.

The Oskolo family changed into black formal wear at Golden Top Castle and then hurried to Davis’s gravesite, led by Dyson. Upon arriving at the grave, they saw Lady Robi crying before the headstone, supported by a young man.

Tall and straight, he was dressed in a black suit, his light golden hair casually tied at the back of his head, exuding a powerful presence.

What caught most attention was a golden lightning mark on his forehead.

Oskolo only glanced at the young man and then, with Madam Quenly, approached Lady Robi, the hostess.

“My deepest condolences,” Oskolo said solemnly.

Madam Quenly, holding Lady Robi’s hand, said quietly, “My deepest sympathies, Robi. Davis’s spirit in heaven surely doesn’t wish to see you in tears. For yourself and Diana, please take care of your health.”

“I know, I know,” Robi couldn’t stop her tears the moment she heard Davis’s name.

“Auntie,” the young man supporting her, Russell, gently offered a handkerchief, “Please wipe your tears.”

Mrs. Roby patted Russell’s hand and said through tears, “It’s a relief to have you here, Russell. Otherwise, I don’t know what I would have done.”

Russell comforted her, “Don’t worry. Grandmother, father, mother, and my elder brother are all on their way here.”

Cousin Diana clutched Mrs. Roby’s dress tightly, shyly looking at the name on the gravestone.

There lay her father.

But it was not her father; her father would forever remain on the Snowfield, and according to legend, his soul would eternally sink into the decaying bodies of the Snow Ghosts.

Diana felt frightened, even though she rarely saw her father, and every time he returned home, it was basically to argue with her mother. The content of their quarrels was always the same, about which woman her father was with this time.

“Now, father can’t go after other women anymore,” Diana suddenly thought. “Are there female Snow Ghosts?”

No one cared what an eleven-year-old girl was thinking.

Everyone mourned at the tombstone for a while, repeating platitudes like “my deepest condolences” before returning to Golden Top Castle.

“Lady Robi,” Earl Oskolo began after drinking a cup of tea, “the deceased is gone, the living must look forward. We are all saddened by Davis’s departure, but the Golden Prairie needs a new master now.”

“Lord Osclo, let’s talk about this after my husband’s funeral,” Lady Robi said wearily.

“It’s best to decide early; the succession can be postponed,” Osclo said nonchalantly. “Otherwise, at Davis’s funeral ceremony, there must be an heir to pay respects by touring the domain, right? If there is no heir to send him off, how can Davis rest in peace!”

At a noble’s funeral, it is customary for the heir to tour the domain, to reassure the people that the lord’s passing is not the end, he has an heir who will inherit everything on the domain.

Lady Robi responded, “Davis has a daughter.”

“A daughter cannot be the heir to tour the domain,” Osclo said. “Besides, Davis had already designated his heir long ago, his nephew Dyson. I believe the Golden Top Family would also prefer Dyson to preside over the funeral, wouldn’t they?”

His presence was commanding, pressuring Lady Robi to acknowledge Dyson’s status as the heir right from the start.

Seeing her aunt nearly overwhelmed with emotion,

Russell’s gaze sharpened as he stepped forward.
