Chapter 361 - 361 360 The Eye of Malice

Chapter 361: Chapter 360: The Eye of Malice Chapter 361: Chapter 360: The Eye of Malice “To attain such a high status as a Flying Dragon Knight, one naturally has to put in more effort than ordinary people,” Baron Roman was quite philosophical about the Demon Subduing Order.

However open-minded he was, he still grimaced, “Twenty Ice Essence Pearls, I’m afraid it will take half a year soaked on the Snowfield. Moreover, there are almost no Snow Demons within the borders, so we must seek them abroad, and it’s not easy to take the Knight Regiment.”

“We could take Lord Sally and Knight Commander Kendall with us. They both have Phantom Beasts capable of flight, which can help you search for Snow Demons,” Russell suggested.

“Let’s leave out Sally; I fear his old bones won’t endure the rigors of the Snowfield,” Baron Roman shook his head, “but Kendall, I must take with me. His Aurora Falcon is incredibly fast, much faster than the Bipedal Flying Dragon.”

“It looks like Knight Commander Kendall is going to receive your enfeoffment,” Russell said.

“Haha, that’s right,” Baron Roman laughed and mused, “Not just Kendall, but Chris as well. I’m prepared to grant them their fiefs when the time is right.”

Chris is the Castle Guard Captain, and Kendall is the Territory Patrol Knight Captain; both have served the Fluorescent Fungi Family for many years, with distinguished service.

Baron Roman continued, “My plan is, once you have moved out of Wuyao Snake Manor, simply let Kendall take over Wuyao Snake Manor. You’ve been cultivating Wuyao Snake Manor quite well these past two years, he can take advantage of that.”

Russell was indifferent about the future arrangements for Wuyao Snake Manor, as it was Baron Roman’s private affair.

Soon, father and son moved on to discussing the issue of hunting Snow Demons on the Snowfield.

Baron Roman asked, “How is your training with Fighting Spirit Dragon Warrior going?”

Russell smiled, “Everything is under control.”

“Hmm, you’re progressing swiftly. Still, you have the talent for it,” Baron Roman sized up his second son, unable to deny the younger man’s talent, “even surpassing myself as your father. I’ve almost got a handle on Fighting Spirit Dragon Warrior as well.”

“With Fighting Spirit Dragon Warrior mastered, hunting Snow Demons isn’t difficult, even if we encounter a Riding Blue Skin we could put up a fight.”

“If we encounter Riding Blue Skin, better to flee as the main priority. There’s no need to expend energy on them, killing one just yields an additional Ice Essence Pearl,” Baron Roman said, “By the way, have you started practicing Dragon Breath Starburst?”

“Hmm, I am pondering over it, but haven’t mastered it yet,” Russell replied.

Dragon Breath Starburst, as the name implies, is using Dragon Breath to create an explosion like a field of stars, instantly tearing apart any prey.

The power of Dragon Breath is already at its peak. If it were to be detonated, it would undoubtedly unleash even greater might. Using Fighting Spirit Dragon Warrior, combined with Dragon Breath Starburst, would mark the pinnacle of a Flying Dragon Knight’s combat abilities.

Following that are Dragon Breath Starflash and Dragon Breath Stary Sky, both auxiliary combat techniques.

Dragon Breath Starflash focuses on speed, using the efficient propulsion of Dragon Breath to move as swiftly as a blink; Dragon Breath Stary Sky spreads Dragon Breath across the entire sky, striking indiscriminately in all directions.

“Russell, fighting in foreign territories is extremely dangerous,” Baron Roman proposed, “how about father and son team up?”

“Sure,” Russell did not refuse.

Baron Roman, as a Third-layer Phantom Beast Knight, had certainly not lost to Russell in combat strength after mastering Fighting Spirit Dragon Warrior.

Teaming up with his father would indeed ensure greater safety.

And having Knight Commander Kendall come along to help with miscellaneous tasks and carry some supplies would allow us to stay in the Snowfield for an extended period.

“Father, when do you plan to go to the Snowfield to fight?” Russell asked.

“Hmm, let’s wait until the ice season is over,” Baron Roman shook his head. He only wanted to gather the twenty Ice Essence Pearls, not to earn distinctions, “We’ve just entered the ice season. The conditions on the Snowfield are too harsh; it’s better to wait.”

Russell wasn’t surprised and said, “Then we’ll wait for the Warm Season to come, and our father and son duo will join forces to fight on the Snowfield.”

“Good, it’s settled then.”

After concluding their discussion, Russell had lunch at Fluorescent Castle and then hurried back to Wuyao Snake Manor.

Baron Roman could wait until the warm season to hunt the Snow Demon, but he was not willing to wait that long. So, he made preparations after returning to his territory and set off for the snowfield once again.

Using Greentown Snow Forest as a supply point, he spread out towards the outer boundary, continually searching for Snow Demons near the border to slay. He didn’t encounter Snow Demons every day, but harvesting over a dozen Ice Essence Pearls a month was basically guaranteed.

And every time the Little Dream Dragon consumed an Ice Essence Pearl, it would fall into deep sleep for two or three days, so the occurrences of Gloomy Dreamland weren’t very frequent.

The chances for hunting Snow Demons at night were also much less.

“The snowfield is simply too empty, with nothing but the occasional Snow Forest,” Russell lamented.

While searching for Snow Demons, he was also drawing maps.

He aimed to fully explore the terrain south of the Shadowflame Grand Duchy’s border so that, if needed in the future, he could use them directly.

“The birth of Ice Cream’s unknown day and manner are a mystery. If there were a choice, naturally it would be best to be born near the Shadowflame Grand Duchy… and if there’s no choice, it would probably still be born nearby, I guess.”

Just like that.

Russell rode on the Black Oil Dragon Ross, venturing deep into the heart of the snowfield where not all the land was covered by ice caps.

Underneath the ice and snow were rolling hills, some so steep that parts of the rock face were exposed, not covered by ice or snow. But that was all there was, exposed rock with no sign of life.

“Roar!” Ross landed atop a peak.

Russell quickly took out his notebook and detailed the nearby terrain, “This continuous stretch of mountains looks like black waves surging in a sea of snow, let’s call it… the Heibo Mountains.”

After sketching the map and hastily naming the area, Russell prepared to resume his search for Snow Demons.

However, right after Russell left, a thick layer of snow in a valley suddenly moved as if something was buried beneath. Subsequently, the snow began to wriggle, forming what seemed to be a gigantic eye pattern.

The eye pattern blinked, and upon closer inspection, one could see that the eyes within the pattern were full of malice.

This eye pattern simply lay in the valley, silently gazing at the Black Oil Dragon that had already taken to the skies.

Only when the shadow of the Black Oil Dragon disappeared over the mountain did the eye pattern vanish, reverting to its prior snowy appearance.

“Let’s go, Ross, we’re heading home. This expedition has taken us at least a thousand kilometers south, it’s just too far from the Shadowflame Grand Duchy.” As the Black Oil Dragon Ross flew past the Heibo Mountains without finding any trace of Snow Demons, Russell decided to return home.

As he flew his dragon over the Heibo Mountains.

The valley’s snow once again formed the malicious eye pattern, watching the shadow of the Black Oil Dragon.

Long after the Black Oil Dragon was gone.

The eye pattern vanished, and in its place, the valley’s snow suddenly coalesced into a large footprint pattern.

After the footprint pattern appeared it quickly disappeared.

But roughly ten kilometers away, another patch of snow transformed into a new footprint pattern, which soon vanished as well.

Then, ten kilometers further north, another tremendous footprint pattern emerged and disappeared as if in a relay.

The footprints chased the silhouette of the Black Oil Dragon all the way from the Heibo Mountains to the outskirts of Glowing Valley. By the time Russell returned to Cigar Courtyard, the Black Oil Dragon flew back to Blackflame Plains, and the massive footprint pattern followed the dragon to the outskirts of Blackflame Plains.

Seemingly unable to enter the Warm Enclave, the giant footprint pattern could only wander the outskirts.

Night fell.

The gigantic footprint pattern ultimately disappeared completely on some snowfield to the east of the Blackflame Plains, never to be seen again.
