Chapter 315: Chapter 314: More Important than Hard Work (Extra Chapter, Requesting Monthly Pass) Chapter 315: Chapter 314: More Important than Hard Work (Extra Chapter, Requesting Monthly Pass) Russell did not believe in playing favorites.

After growing closer to the Pseudo-Harpy Dragon Hape, he signaled for it to patrol the territory to check for any Snow Specter invasions.

Then, with a bound, he leaped down from the terrace garden.

He waved toward Unicorn Polly in the bamboo forest, “Come, let’s train. My Fighting Spirit Sword Control is already beyond masterful, but I can’t fall behind in Fighting Spirit Armor.”

“Rush,” Polly flew over softly.

Fighting Spirit Armor consisted of two stages.

The first stage was for the knight to deploy the armor alone, evenly covering the external body with Origin Breath, somewhat similar to the Qi Round Vigor of a Great Knight. However, the Battle Qi evolved into Origin Breath and was much more solid than the looser Qi Round Vigor.

It was like donning a layer of invisible Origin Breath Armor, with defensive capabilities stronger than that of regular armors forged from magical materials.

Russell had already mastered this stage.

The second stage was the true Origin Breath Armour, where the Fantasy Beast would manipulate the Origin Breath to form the armor that enveloped the knight.

Fantasy Beasts, as the name implies, are fierce creatures with Illusion Abilities.

This transformation utilized the tremendous power of Origin Breath to transform the Fantasy Beast completely into a pure Origin Breath form, changing from a tangible, physical life form into an intangible energetic entity. However, to achieve this, spiritual synchronization between the knight and the Fantasy Beast was necessary.

Because once the Fantasy Beast transformed into an energy entity, its consciousness could not be anchored and thus couldn’t control the subsequent transformations.

Only through spiritual synchronization, with the consciousness hosted in the knight’s mind, could it control its own energy form during the transformation.

“Our minds are nearly perfectly synchronized, Polly. This time, I will definitely succeed in transforming into the Origin Breath Armour!”

“Rush.”

With a thought from Russell, Origin Breath surged within him, quickly resonating with the surging Origin Breath within Polly, creating a unique resonance exclusive to Phantom Beast Knights.

In an instant,

Polly forcefully circulated her Origin Breath, tearing her tangible body into countless Origin Breath energy forms, then leaped towards Russell. She transformed into a set of snow-white battle armor that covered him completely.

However, before Russell was ready, the snow-white Origin Breath Armour shattered with a loud bang, and the white light reassembled into Polly’s unicorn form.

“We failed again, Russell,” Polly said in his mind, sounding somewhat vexed.

“It’s alright, failure is the mother of success. Let’s keep practicing!” Russell was spirited, not at all discouraged by the failure.

In just over a year, he had progressed from an Ordinary Knight who had just manifested his Qi Seed to the pinnacle of most knights, the Phantom Beast Knight. His continual pursuit of excellence had given him immense confidence.

As long as he wanted it, as long as he practiced diligently, he would succeed in everything.

“Rush!” Polly responded.

Then the two of them, in the bamboo forest, began countless attempts, with Polly continually tearing her body into an energy entity and then wrapping it around Russell.

From initially shattering in an instant to lasting three to five seconds before breaking apart later on.

One could say their progress was rapid.

“Huff… huff…” As the sky gradually darkened, Russell was gasping for air, and looking at Polly who was also panting heavily, he signaled with his hand, “We can’t go on, Polly. Rest well; we’ll continue training tomorrow.”

Originally, he had to struggle to hatch the Black Oil Dragon Egg in the Snowfield.

But now, with Baron Roman leading the Glowing Valley Knight Regiment in combat on the Snowfield, there was no need for Russell to take action.

Therefore, he had ample time to practice diligently.

Night had fallen.

Riding the Little Dream Dragon, Russell began his daily stroll—the Snowfields surrounding Glowing Valley were void of Snow Ghosts. During the warmer seasons, Snow Ghosts would naturally recede, and after being cleaned up by Baron Roman leading the Knight Regiment, not one remained.

“Ga.” The Little Dream Dragon flew listlessly.

“Don’t be upset, Ice Cream,” Russell soothed, “Once Rossay hatches, we’ll be able to venture deeper into the snowfield. By then, with Rossay to keep us warm, we can camp anywhere. Are you worried we won’t find any Snow Demons to hunt?”

Upon hearing this, the Little Dream Dragon felt it made sense and immediately perked up: “Ga ga!”

“Haha, no rush. Rossay is hatching, and it’s June now. I’d estimate that in another two months, during the scorching summer, he should hatch,” Russell gauged, based on the rate at which Baron Roman provided Ice Pellet Pearls.

This progress was already faster than what the Shadowflame Dragon had estimated.

After all, it hadn’t even been half a year since he got the Black Oil Dragon Egg—if he had to hunt Snow Ghosts himself, it might take several years.

“Ga ga!”

“You can’t take everything Shadowflame Dragon says at face value. It said that at best, it would take half a year and at worst a year for me to hatch Rossay. Now it seems, it was either boxing me in or it took my family’s support into account as well. Relying solely on myself, it might take three to five years to hatch Rossay.”

The deficit of the Black Oil Dragon Egg was simply too great to be filled just by hunting a few Snow Ghosts.

Of course.

The deficit seemed large, but being able to choose the attributes of a Bipedal Flying Dragon and to contract early was undoubtedly a huge profit, so it wouldn’t really be fair to say that the Shadowflame Dragon had been deceiving him—it just exaggerated a bit.

As they chatted, the combination of one man, one dragon, one beast, one butterfly, one flower, one louse had already made their way into the small market area.

“Let’s go, let’s check out the officials’ dormitory and see what the subordinates are up to,” Russell suddenly thought, curious to see what everyone was doing.

Eric was asleep, and Grove, who was newly married, was working out.

Others, like Charles, were not Great Knights and had insufficient Battle Qi, so what he showed was a figure with missing arms and legs.

“Huh.”

Russell saw Katie.

Katie was sitting cross-legged in her room. The Red-eyed Rat King, Jerry, was sharing a room with her and was fast asleep at this moment.

“Still cultivating so late at night…” Russell felt a touch of emotion.

He thought he had been diligent enough, but seeing Katie cultivate throughout the night, he couldn’t help feeling a bit ashamed.

He also understood better why Katie, after starting over with her Battle Qi, had been promoted to a Great Knight and successfully contracted a Fantasy Beast within just half a year. Her talent and perseverance were among the best of the knights, and her luck was equally good.

Meeting him, Russell, was her luck.

Being able to succeed in re-cultivating her Battle Qi was another stroke of fortune.

With the right time, place, and people, Katie was indeed fortunate in every aspect, so her achievements naturally followed as a matter of course.

“If people more talented than me also work harder than I do, what reason do I have not to redouble my efforts… Never mind, I am the man who can make conversation with Great Dragons, right, Ice Cream, Polly?” Russell felt embarrassed only for a moment, and then his confidence returned.

While effort could indeed make one stronger.

The Dragon Sleep Continent was not a Supernatural World that cared for the principle of fairness—a Great Dragon’s mere glance could benefit someone more than a lifetime of a knight’s hard work.

“And I am a man who comes with a Great Dragon of his own. Even if I lie down right now, Ice Cream, you would take me to the pinnacle of life, wouldn’t you?”

“Ga!” The Little Dream Dragon nodded its head.

Then, raising its head high, it clearly told Russell that even if he were to lie down and become useless from this point on, it would take him to the pinnacle of life on Dragon Sleep Continent and become a Dragon Knight atop the summit.

“Good Ice Cream!” Russell laughed, “It’s a shame there’s no alcohol here in Gloomy Dreamland, otherwise, I’d have us toast a big white one!”

After a pause,

Russell spoke boldly, “Ice Cream, with the support you provide, I, Russell Fluorescent Fungus, cannot fall behind!”

He turned to the pink pony and said, “Starting tomorrow, with an unlimited supply of Magic Elixir, we’ll cultivate from dawn until dusk. We won’t rest until we’ve mastered the Fighting Spirit Armor!”

“Okay, then,” Polly replied telepathically.
