Evil dragon has a warm heart
Chapter 311 - 311 310 Hops

Chapter 311: Chapter 310 Hops Chapter 311: Chapter 310 Hops “Hewitt.”

Russell gave the newly acquired Wheat Elf a rather common name, without adding the family symbol “Lo” to it.

Only the dragons or elves he harvested himself were traditionally given the “Lo” symbol according to his family tradition.

For example, the Black Oil Dragon Ross and the Fluorescent Mushroom Bird Luo Xi.

“This is a grain-type Sprite. The wheat, after many years of domestication, produces a much higher yield of Magic Potion than ordinary plants,” Cousin Mel expressed enviously, “The Regent Lady really does think highly of you!”

“Because I’m worth looking up to,” Russell said smugly.

It must be said, being valued feels quite refreshing, especially by someone of Princess Anxia’s noble standing. In recognition of Princess Anxia’s favor, he would certainly ensure that she and Princess Kunlaya, her daughter, had a good future.

“Alright, cousin, I must be going now. I’ll visit you at Red Castle again when I have the chance,” Russell took the Wheat Elf, Hewitt, with him.

Mel was somewhat reluctant as he sighed, “Honestly, your Wuyao Snake Manor is too remote and isolated. It would be better if it were transferred to Volcanic Oasis. That way, we brothers could visit each other more often, and you could even be my assistant.”

“What nonsense are you thinking? I wouldn’t even want to be an assistant for the Volcanic Minister, let alone be an assistant to a son who can’t even speak in the Council of Elders!”

“Hey, if you think of me as the future Grand Duke, won’t you feel better?

“Anyway, forget about it.”

Waving his hand, Russell nonchalantly gestured to Katie before leaping onto Unicorn Polly and leaving the small castle.

Just as he arrived at the junction connecting the Outer Fort with the long bridge, he saw a Knight who had been waiting there block his path, “Lord Russell, please wait a moment.”

“Who are you?”

“I am a guard from the inner fort, following the orders of Princess Kunlaya to deliver a letter to you,” the Knight handed over the letter.

“A letter from Princess Kunlaya to me?” Russell was surprised and somewhat puzzled. If she wanted to say something, she could have called him to the grand hall of the inner fort. Writing a letter seemed wholly unnecessary, but he still took the letter and immediately opened it to read.

The content of the letter was nothing special.

It was a note from Princess Kunlaya expressing her gratitude to Russell for inventing the Retting Fertilization Skill, which helped lots of commoners produce more food, thereby enhancing the strength of the Grand Duchy. The letter went on to mention the reward of the Wheat Elf and hoped that Russell would continue to strive and make more contributions to the Grand Duchy.

Essentially, it was a letter of thanks and an attempt to get closer.

“Interesting,” Russell narrowed his eyes. He could clearly sense that the letter, while purported to be from Princess Kunlaya, seemed actually penned by Princess Anxia.

What he couldn’t figure out was, “Why does she want to get closer to a Lord of my status? Simply because the Shadowflame Dragon glanced at me? It shouldn’t be that significant. Baron Gevedas didn’t view me any differently because the Shadowflame Dragon looked at me; in fact, he directly expelled me from Fort Poplar.”

This indicates that being noticed by the Shadowflame Dragon was not considered a big deal in the eyes of the nobility.

There was no need for Princess Anxia to give it so much importance.

“It always feels like the Shadowflame Dragon said something to Princess Anxia… Could it have revealed my secret? No, it shouldn’t have. Revealing my secret would delay the growth of Ice Cream, and then the Shadowflame Dragon would lose its chance for revenge.”

He couldn’t make sense of it at the moment.

But Russell wasn’t inclined to dwell on it. His strength was growing, and he now had the ability to protect himself, unafraid of troubles.

“After I’ve successfully tamed the dragon, Princess Anxia’s intentions will naturally reveal themselves.” He tucked away the letter and continued on his way.

That night, he stayed at a waystation along the path.

Wheat Elf Hewitt had just left Fairy Paradise, still timid about the outside world, and even at night, he would only dare to sleep while clutching onto Lord Russell’s finger.

Looking at Hewitt, Russell sighed, “This is already my third Little Sprite, and now I only have seven Spirit Insects. Won’t the number of my Little Sprites exceed that of Spirit Insects at this rate after a while?”

The value of elves was beyond question.

Seemingly only affecting plants and cultivating Magic Potion, in actuality, the training of Knights was founded upon the basis of Magic Potion.

It could be said that without elves there would be no Knights, and without Knights, there would naturally be no flourishing civilization as we have today. Human civilization must rely on Great Dragons for higher powers and on elves for the lower framework.

Dragon Sleep Continent was a supernatural world under a magical creation system.

Russell had hardly given it much thought, bemoaning the scarcity of his Spirit Insects, when during the coming of Gloomy Dreamland, guided by the Magic Light, he found a wild cordyceps with a Sprite crawling on it.

“This… is simply a stroke of great luck, wild Spirit Insects, and they’ve already nurtured a Sprite!”

It was not that there were no wild Spirit Insects; in fact, the nurturing probability of wild cordyceps was not too low.

But the lack of essence meant that most of the wild cordyceps ultimately miscarried, unable to successfully breed Spirit Insects.

Only an extremely small number of fortunate ones were born into this world.

It was the birth of these lucky ones, picked up by people and brought back, that began the continuous breeding of Spirit Insects from generation to generation, allowing elves to keep shining brightly, contributing to the construction of warm lands opened up by dragons.

“Polly, did you remember this place?” asked Russell.

Polly immediately responded in his mind, “Remembered. When you wake up tomorrow, I’ll take you there.”

In the matter of remembering paths, Russell was far from being as powerful as Polly. Basically, any path traversed in Gloomy Dreamland could be precisely replicated by Polly the next day as long as the environment wasn’t too complicated, leading them successfully to their target.

The following day, when the sky brightened, Russell left Katie waiting at the station.

He swiftly arrived at the location of the Spirit Insect discovered last night, riding on Unicorn Polly. There, a large patch of hops was in bloom.

Clusters of green hop cones, like little pineapples, hung upside down among the branches.

“It’s actually a hops Spirit Insect, very good indeed!” Russell nodded in admiration. The primary use of hops was in brewing beer.

They could also use hops to make bread that could be stored for a long period, as it’s a natural preservative.

This place was all wasteland which, in theory, all belong to the Flamecrest Dragonblood Family, but Red Castle simply couldn’t take care of it all. Hence, there was an unwritten rule that whoever found a magical creation in the wilderness could take it away freely.

Russell quickly found the most vigorous plant among the wild hops and on its leaves, spotted a pale green Spirit Insect with light white stripes.

“Come on, have some jade powder, little guy.” Russell deftly used jade powder as bait and successfully fooled the hops Spirit Insect into its “first kiss.” The blood bead mixed with jade powder was swallowed, and a contract was successfully formed.

“Very well, very well, little guy, pack up your cordyceps,” Russell guided the hops insect to pack up its cordyceps.

After glancing at the large patch of hops around him, he shook his head.

These hops had not yet become Magic Potion, indicating that the nurturing of the hops insect had only occurred within the past few days.

“Let’s head back. It’s just perfect to plant a patch of hops on the domain and brew beer in the future.” Russell didn’t like drinking, but during the hot, dry moments of the cool summer season, enjoying a cup of Magic Power-infused beer was certainly a delightful pleasure.

Back at the station, Russell put the hops insect into the jade box with Hewitt and with a spirited wave of his hand declared, “Off we go, home!”
