Chapter 300 - 300 299 Great Knight Katie
Chapter 300: Chapter 299: Great Knight Katie Chapter 300: Chapter 299: Great Knight Katie Baron Roman didn’t stay at home for more than a few days, before he handed a bag of Ice Pellet Pearls to Russell and set off again with the Glowing Valley Knight Regiment, heading for the Snowfield.
He continued the arduous task of battle and collected Ice Pellet Pearls for Russell.
This time, however, Roland did not follow. The reason was simple: The Baron and his wife had decided to send Roland to the Populus Gobi.
The Populus Gobi was the territory of Baron Bullhorn Geweidasi Baimaigen. Previously, Baron Roman and his wife had already reached a verbal agreement with Baron Geweidasi and his wife to establish a marriage alliance. Now, Roland was on his way to finalize the verbal agreement officially.
“When you meet Baron Geweidasi, you must perform well. I have met Gwyn, and I am very satisfied with her. Make sure she becomes my daughter-in-law, understand?” Lady Meryl personally picked out clothes for Roland.
Speaking of the marriage alliance, Roland felt no embarrassment and confidently said, “Mother, rest assured, I have danced with Gwyn, and she is also very satisfied with me.”
“No matter how satisfied, you still have to win over the Geweidasi couple first,” Lady Meryl said, “Mrs. Joanna comes from a Lord’s manor and is not a woman of strong opinions, but Baron Geweidasi is not easy to get along with.”
Roland laughed: “Mother, I am now the son of a Flying Dragon Knight. How could Baron Geweidasi obstruct me from marrying Gwyn?”
Although not being able to ride a dragon was a huge blow to Roland, it was not all bad. After all, it was his father who rode the dragon.
If his father could successfully ride a dragon, it indicated that Sir Ross had overcome his mental block, meaning that he would naturally be able to ride a dragon in the future.
Therefore, at this moment, Roland was not concerned about the matter of the marriage alliance.
After much deliberation, Lady Meryl finally chose a suit that satisfied her, for Roland to wear upon his arrival at Fort Poplar: “Your taste is not as good as mine, so listen to me. When you get to Fort Poplar, wear this suit and don’t make your own decisions, understand?”
Roland smiled: “Okay, I’ll listen to Mother.”
Lady Meryl also smiled, but there was a tinge of bitterness behind her smile. She had given birth to two sons and two daughters for Baron Roman, yet only Russell grew up to her satisfaction.
She had never worried about what clothes would suit Russell; any outfit would fit him perfectly and radiate his natural grace and class. However, she often had headaches over what her husband, eldest son, and two daughters should wear.
Fortunately, the day of Roland’s wedding was approaching.
Lady Meryl thought to herself: “When the time comes, let the daughter of the Baimaigen family worry about what Roland should wear.”
Lost in her thoughts, she then saw Russell, a natural clothes rack, coming in: “Mother, Brother, haven’t you chosen the clothes yet? We need to hurry up. The caravan is urging us. If we’re any later, we’ll miss the Four Seasons Flower Sea Cold Spring Spot.”
The caravan planned to camp at the Four Seasons Flower Sea Cold Spring Spot, where it was as warm as spring, the favored camping spot for everyone.
“It’s done,” Roland signaled the servants to pack the clothes.
Lady Meryl looked at her two sons who resembled each other in demeanor but differed greatly in terms of looks, and for a moment, she was at a loss for words. It was hard to believe that the same mother could give birth to two brothers who were worlds apart.
Fortunately, a man’s excellence did not depend on his looks.
However, she couldn’t help worrying secretly about her youngest daughter, Lola, consoling herself with her elder daughter, Rolin: “Rolin looks ordinary, but she is also living a happy life… Lola will also find her caring Cooper sooner or later,” she thought.
The two brothers walked out the front door together.
Roland brought a Great Knight as his attendant, but he saw that the attendant Russell brought was a Female Knight.
He couldn’t help asking curiously, “Russell, who is this?”
“Katie, also a Great Knight. I’m taking her out to see the world,” Russell said with a smile as he introduced her.
Katie thumped her chest with her right hand and performed a knightly salute: “Katie has seen Lord Roland.”
“Hello, Katie,” Roland surveyed Katie from head to toe. Katie was merely pretty, not strikingly beautiful, so his gaze quickly reverted back to Russell, and he said, “Female Great Knights are quite rare.”
The subtext was, Russell’s romantic luck was not shallow.
Beautiful women are not rare, but female Great Knights are exceedingly uncommon, and, of course, beautiful female Great Knights are even rarer.
Russell didn’t explain; he just smiled faintly and said, “Let’s set off, big brother.”
The party consisted of four riders, yet included three magical creatures, Russell’s companion, the unicorn Polly; Roland’s companion, the nightmare specter horse Nemo; and the Red-eyed Rat King Jerry.
Taking Jerry along was purely for Katie’s benefit.
Russell hoped that the journey northward to Populus Gobi would help Katie and Jerry develop a rapport and thereby establish a contract.
Katie had already sworn an oath of loyalty unto death to him and decided to devote her life to the arduous discipline of Battle Qi, vowing not to marry but to dedicate her life to Russell. Thus, after much thought, Russell decided to transfer the right to contract with the Red-eyed Rat King to Katie.
It just so happened that Jerry and Katie got along very well.
The Red-eyed Rat King Jerry’s Magic-Bloodthirsty Flicker was indeed a powerful magic that made one envious, but his appearance was admittedly a bit sleazy.
Besides, Russell had a better contract candidate—the Pseudo-Harpy Dragon Hape.
With Hape’s arrival, Jerry was inevitably pushed further back. This meant that only once Russell advanced to a Second-layer High-ranking Mythical Beast Knight and achieved perfect synchronicity with Hape’s mind, and tried to initiate the Third-layer, might he consider contracting with Jerry.
That day would presumably come several years later.
Moreover, during this time, Russell might find even better magical creatures, and Jerry would have to move further down the line.
So Russell simply gave up on Jerry and handed him over to Katie to contract, in the hope of nurturing a female Mythical Beast Knight, while also having her help control the Treasure-Hunting Rat Squad and Sentinel Rat Squad.
Upon reaching Red Bat Grotto, the caravan had already been waiting for a long while.
“Lord Roland, Lord Russell, you’ve finally arrived!” the caravan’s steward, upon seeing the brothers Roland and Russell, hurried to pay his respects.
After the salutations, the caravan officially set out, venturing into the vast snowfield.
Along the way, they traveled within the ice wall, where they could see numerous workers in padded jackets melting snow on the snowfield. Once the snow melted into water, they would freeze it into huge ice blocks, then use the blocks to repair the ice wall.
Cleaning, repairing, and replacing—the Fluorescent Castle would undertake a major repair of the ice wall every few years.
After traveling for most of the day, they arrived at Four Seasons Flower Sea Cold Spring Spot.
“Tom, be careful and watch out, don’t bump or damage the cigar box.” After Russell entered the Cold Spring Point, he immediately instructed Tom, a knight in the caravan, whose simple task was to transport Rain Dragon cigars.
“Yes, Sir.”
This trip to Populus Gobi would pass by Red Castle along the way.
They had received some orders for the Rain Dragon Mist Series cigars last year, and with the warm season approaching, it was the perfect time to deliver them.
At the same time, Russell was to deliver the fermented special Vintage Windfrost Series Rain Dragon cigars to his grandfather Earl Merlin, and Marquis Arno Sunfire.
The reputation of the Rain Dragon cigars had already spread throughout the Shadowflame Duchy.
Now, orders were flying into Glowing Valley like snowflakes. As long as production kept up, they would reap countless gold coins.
Moreover, to emphasize the exclusivity of the Rain Dragon cigars, Russell decided that the Mist Series could only be traded for Ice Pellet Pearls.
“With this batch of Rain Dragon cigars sold, Russell, you’ll never run out of money in your pocket… Tsk tsk, a plain White Dew variety selling for a silver coin.” Roland came over and expressed some confusion about why the Rain Dragon cigars could be sold for such a high price.
“It’s not that profitable,” Russell shook his head, “Father waived the trade tax for me, but the commercial subsidy wasn’t reduced at all; the bulk of the profits went to the family.”
Upon hearing this, Roland laughed and said, “Maintaining trade routes is not easy for the family. You, being more capable, should contribute a bit more.”
