Chapter 292 - 292 291 Feathers and Unicorn

Chapter 292: Chapter 291: Feathers and Unicorn Chapter 292: Chapter 291: Feathers and Unicorn Russell could confirm that Greentown Garden was indeed a Cold Spring Point.

In the Gloomy Dreamland, he observed everything about this small garden, which, although also outlined in dim lines, was distinctly clearer compared to the surrounding Greentown Snow Forest.

In Gloomy Dreamland, the Greentown Snow Forest was depicted with near-black, dim outlines.

Whereas, the Greentown Garden Cold Spring reflected dull, grey dim lines, noticeably different in color saturation and brightness.

“This Cold Spring Point essentially contains strands of Earth’s force, unlike ordinary land,” said Russell, looking at Greentown Garden before him, his interest in the mysterious Pseudo-Dragons deepening even further.

“On the snowfields of Dragon Sleep Continent, there are so many Cold Spring Points, but only those where Pseudo-Dragon Successors reside have constant warmth… So what is the connection between these Cold Spring Points and Pseudo-Dragons, and why do Pseudo-Dragon Successors live here?”

There was no answer, at least Russell had found none in the many books he had read.

He could only guess, “Could it be that here, or rather, at every Cold Spring Point with a Pseudo-Dragon Successor, is the very place where Phantom Beasts evolve into Pseudo-Dragons? Just like how the Bipedal Flying Dragon is born from a hot spring, there will be springs that never run dry or grow cold?”

Uncle Roson’s fief, Great Wind Manor, has a hot spring, which is where Ros the Clay Dragon was born.

Lady Ingrid preferred this hot spring, which is why she resided in Great Wind Manor and not with the Baron and his wife in Fluorescent Castle.

“If that is the case, then within the territory of Shadowflame Duchy, at least from what I’ve seen, three Pseudo-Dragons have been born,” Russell frowned, knowing that the Four Seasons Flower Sea Cold Spring Spot had a Goose-like Dragon, and the Reed Green Waves Cold Spring Spot had a Goose-like Dragon.

Now, in Greentown Garden Cold Spring Point, there was also an Owl-Dragon Simulant.

“But,” Russell shook his head, “I’ve never heard that in the four hundred years since the founding of the Shadowflame Duchy, a Dragon Domain Lord has been born… Could it be that a Dragon Domain Lord does not need a Knight to cooperate, and a Phantom Beast can directly advance?”

Or perhaps.

This land, a thousand years before, might have given birth to another Great Dragon and established a long-lost realm.

But after the Great Dragon’s death, the realm also perished, buried anew under ice and snow until the birth of the Shadowflame Dragon.

“Since the establishment of the Holy Glint Empire five thousand years ago, humanity has mostly settled by following the Great Dragons; where dragons thrive, humans thrive, where dragons perish, humans perish… Perhaps many years ago, indeed, a group of humans lived here.”

The strife between ice and fire, tumultuous for thousands of years, has already buried too many splendid stories in silence.

Without a permanent habitat, there can be no enduring history of civilization.

Humans on Dragon Sleep Continent are like nomads, clustering where the grass is lush and where Great Dragons are born.

“One day I will unravel the mysteries of Pseudo-Dragons,” Russell vowed, looking at the Pseudo-Harpy Dragon perched atop a tree, curled into a ball, its outline still vividly mapped by the Magic Light, looking more like a dragon than an owl.

“Right, Ice Cream, Polly?”

Little Dream Dragon didn’t care about these issues and urged Russell to hurry up and hunt the Snow Demon, “Gah!”

Polly responded softly in her mind, “Yes, Russell, I believe you can unravel these mysteries.”

“Of course,” Russell’s heart swelled with lofty ambitions, “the day I ascend to be a Dragon Knight, I must unite all of humanity and drive the Snow Demon back to its home. Ice Cream, Polly, and also Sword Butterfly, Thorn, Flat Louse, together we will witness that day!”

“Rush,” Polly responded.

Sword Butterflies danced gracefully, Flat Lice swiftly crawled among the little flowers, small Thorn branches remained still, and Thorns continued to mutter things like “so comfortable, so comfortable.”

As for the Little Dream Dragon, it let out a perfunctory cry, “Gah.”

“Alright, let’s go,” Russell said, retracting his gaze that had been spying on the Pseudo-Harpy Dragon, ready to take flight beyond the Greentown Snow Forest.

However, at this moment, the Pseudo-Harpy Dragon, seemingly uncomfortable from overeating, stretched out a claw and scratched its head. Instantly, a feather from its head was dislodged by the claw and stood on end.

“Huh!”

Russell’s peripheral vision caught sight of this feather and immediately turned his head back to look at the magic outline of the Pseudo-Harpy Dragon.

“Look quick, Polly, look at the feather on its head, don’t you think the Magic Light is very familiar, with a kind of special pattern?” Russell said hastily.

Polly cocked her head, “Familiar? Where?”

Russell glanced at Polly and then back at the Pseudo-Harpy Dragon, “I forgot, you haven’t seen… The pattern on this feather is very much like the pattern on the horn on your head. They both have this sense of magic being concentrated, just like… just like the magic patterns of Bipedal Flying Dragons!”

Polly had never seen what sort of Magic Light her own body would emit.

Because it was only in her Primordial Spirit form that she could be pulled into Gloomy Dreamland by the Little Dream Dragon, but at the same time, her body would completely disappear from Gloomy Dreamland, just like Russell’s body, when the “Primordial Spirit leaves the body.”

“What does this mean?” Polly was puzzled. She looked carefully at the magic outline of the Pseudo-Harpy Dragon but didn’t notice anything unusual.

“What I mean is,” Russell analyzed, “On creatures like Kevin, Jerry, and Bill, these Phantom Beasts, I’ve never detected a magic pattern similar to the one on your horn, or rather, none of the Phantom Beasts I have seen had it, only this feather on the head of the Pseudo-Harpy Dragon does!”

Pausing for a moment, Russell continued, “I have a bold hypothesis – your horn and its feather might be a symbol of an identity… If the Pseudo-Harpy Dragon is from the Illusionary Beast Pseudo-Dragon Successor, maybe you could possibly be one too.”

“Ah?” Polly exclaimed, surprised, “I could potentially be a Pseudo-Dragon Successor too? But I wasn’t born in a warm Cold Spring Point; my life began in the Snowfield as far back as I can remember.”

Without parents, without companions.

Polly’s memories only started to stabilize around the time she became a Phantom Beast, and that was also when she began to develop intelligence.

Since then, she lived a lonely life on the Snowfield, oblivious to the years and unable to distinguish time, until she was deceived by Russell.

“It’s just a theory,” Russell couldn’t be certain either.

“Alright, but I do envy that Pseudo-Harpy Dragon. Look, it has so many Owl-Dragon Simulants for company,” Polly said.

Russell really wanted to say that Polly too could have many horses for company.

But considering Polly hated being mistaken for a horse, he decided not to share this thought with her.

As they watched, the human and creature were still inclined to continue observing the Pseudo-Harpy Dragon.

Finally, the Little Dream Dragon lost patience and roared, “Gah-hou!”

Then, without looking back, it flew out of the Snow Forest and straight into the Snowfield, starting the night’s killing and feasting.
