Chapter 254 - 254 253 Flat Louse Amber Worm
Chapter 254: Chapter 253 Flat Louse Amber Worm Chapter 254: Chapter 253 Flat Louse Amber Worm This night in the Gloomy Dreamland, Russell had been experimenting with Polly’s unicorn horn, trying to understand how to pierce the Quiet Dream and break into reality.
Eventually, he discovered that this miniature unicorn horn was not omnipotent.
It indeed could penetrate into reality, but it did not truly appear within reality. Instead, it moved along the boundary between dreams and reality. It could adhere to something that resembled amber, and then, like the miniature horn, move along the boundary.
However, it couldn’t adhere to objects that lacked magic power, it could only stick to magical objects, and those needed to be inanimate, without consciousness.
Fantasy Beasts, Knights, Spirit Insects, and other sentient life forms were beyond the capabilities of Polly’s miniature unicorn horn.
For example, the Black Oil Dragon Egg that Russell carried with him, though not yet matured and with a still young mind, could not be adhered to by the miniature horn.
But it could successfully stick to magical artifacts like gems and metals.
“So is this stone that looks like amber really amber? Amber Worms should belong to self-aware life forms, but when trapped in amber, perhaps they don’t count as having self-awareness… Forget it, it’s too confusing; better to wait for daylight to naturally reveal the truth.”
“Gah.” The Little Dream Dragon was tired.
The darkness of the Gloomy Dreamland dissipated, and consciousness sank into the dark.
The next day, before dawn broke, Russell got up, not bringing a manservant, although Swan Castle had assigned one to help him dress.
But Russell only asked the manservant to hand him his clothes, which he put on himself. After hastily washing up and going downstairs, he headed straight to the Fantasy Beast camp.
“Russell,” Polly’s voice echoed in his mind.
“I’m here.”
“It really is a piece of amber,” Polly said, dragging an orange-yellow stone from beneath her, “When I woke up this morning, this stone was stuck on my horn; clearly I brought it back from outside.”
“Cool!” Russell exclaimed joyfully, taking the stone and examining it closely, he recognized that it was indeed a piece of amber.
The Sword Butterfly’s amber was the size of a fist, the Thorns’ amber only the size of meatballs, but this piece of amber was a bit larger than a meatball.
Through the light, it was possible to see some impurities inside, but amidst the murkiness, lay a round, spider-like bug with eight legs, clear in outline, without the waist of a spider but rather a round ball with head and body fused together.
“This looks a bit like a Flat Louse?” Russell quickly identified.
The so-called Flat Louse was a tick that often bit and sucked blood from livestock or even serfs. As a Knight, Russell often found blood-sucking ticks on his warhorse; he could remove them with a drop of wax oil.
Having identified what the amber encapsulated, Russell was filled with anticipation: “I wonder what magical effect it’ll have, now that the tick has become an Amber Worm!”
The plant-like Thorns Amber Worm eggs were useless, but the insect Sword Butterfly Amber Bugs possessed wondrous swordsmanship.
As a fellow insect, the new Amber Worm had Russell very excited.
Without any extra actions, Russell directly sliced his finger and let two drops of blood fall onto the amber.
The blood immediately permeated the interior of the amber.
A faint breath appeared in his thoughts, accompanied by feelings of hunger, mixed with a slight craving for fresh blood. However, these sensations were not strong and did not affect Russell’s own senses.
He watched the amber closely and saw the Flat Louse within seem to twitch slightly and then quickly absorb the surrounding impurities.
It seemed that the murkiness had originally been some kind of blood, enclosed within the amber alongside the tick.
The tick fed on the dirty blood until it became visibly plump and then there was a sharp cracking noise. The amber stone swiftly crumbled into powder, slipping through the crevices of his fingers and vanishing completely.
Only a Flat Louse, slightly larger than Russell’s thumbnail, remained quietly lying in the palm of his hand.
Hunger, joy, closeness, and a craving for fresh blood – a myriad of emotions emerged in Russell’s mind all at once, emanating from the Flat Louse.
The next second.
It suddenly bit into the palm of Russell’s hand. He felt no pain, and then it turned into a streak of bloodlight, completely merging into his palm.
The M-shaped mark flickered, and around it, in addition to the Thorns Mark and the Sword Butterfly Mark, there was another tiny Flat Louse Mark scurrying around, the size of a sesame seed. Without a doubt, this was a new member of the Quiet Dream family.
“You’ll be called Flat Louse, Flat Louse Amber Worm…” Russell silently received the information feedback from the Flat Louse Amber Worm.
A moment later, his eyes lit up.
The Flat Louse didn’t know swordsmanship, but it had its own uniqueness; it could help Russell transform vitality between qi and blood.
That is to say, when Russell’s battle qi was depleted, he could burn his essence blood through the Flat Louse to transform it into surging battle qi and fight again. When Russell was injured and bleeding, he could also transform battle qi through the Flat Louse to make up for the loss of blood.
“Very cool, very cool!” Russell laughed heartily. Although the effect of the qi-blood transformation wasn’t as dazzling as mastering swordsmanship, it was incredibly practical.
It not only increased his endurance in combat but also hastened the recovery of his injuries.
But amidst his happiness, Russell felt a tinge of regret, “Why is it transforming qi and blood, and not qi and fat? Turning fat into battle qi, now that would be divine!”
Okay, that’s being greedy.
Russell was already very satisfied with the qi-blood transformation ability of the Flat Louse Amber Worm, much more useful than a five-meter-long thorn whip.
“Polly, I’m really happy today,” Russell said with a smile.
“Hehe.”
“By the way, the function of your horn is bigger than I imagined,” Russell stroked his chin. “Let me name it, or rather, your new ability… It can pierce through the Quiet Dream and touch reality, bringing back wondrous creations. So, let’s call it the Dreamy Unicorn Horn, the Quiet Dream Horn.”
“The Quiet Dream Horn, huh? But my horn isn’t a tentacle. Snails have tentacles on their heads,” Polly replied.
“All right, since you’re not satisfied, let’s call it the Gloomy Dreamland Unicorn Horn, the Dreamy Unicorn Horn.”
“I like this name, Russell.”
“Tsk tsk, come to think of it, you already have three special skills—Wraithwalk, Ethereal Dream Escape Skill and Dreamy Unicorn Horn. No wonder Ice Cream pulled you into the Gloomy Dreamland, you and Ice Cream are naturally compatible, and your abilities are closely related.”
“Maybe, but Ice Cream seems very proud and is quite indifferent towards me,” Polly noted.
“It’s like that with everyone, hardly ever giving anyone a direct look,” Russell consoled.
…
After a fulfilling morning, Russell declined Lord Kunstan Xiangrikui’s hospitality and left Swan Castle with the knights.
Sometime in the sky, snow had begun to fall heavily again.
Even though the Snow Giant Da had been repelled, the force of the Snow Demon across the snowfield hadn’t subsided, and the ice age was still determinedly spreading.
The roads became muddy, but that did not affect Russell; after all, Unicorn Polly had the Wind Walking Skill and never touched the ground.
Eric, on the other hand, suffered as splashes of mud from his galloping horse covered him entirely.
Kevin the Gold and Silver Wolfhound, laden with baggage, also shared in the misfortune. Its originally glossy fur was now wet and clumped together, looking like a drenched chicken.
All the knights in the company secretly envied Russell. With Unicorn Polly, a mount this showy, he could effortlessly speed through the air, unfazed by the muddy terrain below and without a speck of discomfort.
Suddenly,
From far ahead in the sky, came a rolling sound wave that seemed to have traveled a long distance over time before reaching them.
Then it formed into a familiar roar, “Omm!”
“It’s the roar of the Torrential Flood Dragon!” Russell’s ears perked up, trying to listen again, but after the roar, silence reigned.
No one knew what that dragon roar meant.
But the knights all had serious looks on their faces, vaguely guessing that the Torrential Flood Dragon must have taken something important from the Shadowflame Duchy, something it required as a reward for supporting the Shadowflame Dragon.
