Evil dragon has a warm heart -
Chapter 217 - 217 216 Wraithwalk
Chapter 217: Chapter 216 Wraithwalk Chapter 217: Chapter 216 Wraithwalk The feast was skipped, but Russell and the Little Dream Dragon did manage to snack on a few shrimps, thus concluding their journey through the snowfield.
The next evening, a caravan pulled by thunder beasts departed the Red Bat Grotto and entered Great Wind Manor.
“Marcus, Russell!” Rosen Fluorescent Spore personally came out to receive the two and brought down the serfs that belonged to him.
He quickly noticed Russell was riding a horse unlike any other, “Is this… a fantasy beast?”
“Unicorn Polly, a companion I found in the Snow Forest,” Russell introduced generously.
“Found in the Snow Forest?” Uncle Rosen was surprised.
Baron Marcus said indifferently from the side, “It was just outside the second Cold Spring Point in the Snow Forest. There was no battle; Polly simply accepted Russell.”
A day had passed, and he had already adjusted his mindset.
Seeing that Russell was under the gaze of the Shadowflame Dragon, it was certain that a bright future awaited him. What he needed to do was accept this fact, then adjust his own attitude to offer Russell the same respect given to Roland.
“A dragon’s gaze, truly a blessing for our family!” Uncle Rosen exclaimed, and then he patted Russell on the shoulder forcefully, “Russell, just like Roland, you are the future of the Fluorescent Fungi Family. You two are twin stars!”
“Royal and Royer will shoulder the family’s burdens in the future as well,” Russell said with a smile.
Uncle Rosen laughed, “Haha, when Royal and Royer come of age, I hope you can guide them.”
“Of course.”
After the exchange of serfs belonging to Great Wind Manor was complete, Russell and Marcus had to hurry back to Fluorescent Castle, so they didn’t linger at the manor long.
Russell didn’t see his grandmother, Lady Ingrid, “Uncle, please pass on my greetings to grandmother. I still have duties to tend to now. Once I’m done, I’ll come to visit her.”
“Alright, I won’t keep you any longer. Come over when you have time.”
Under the moonlight, the caravan resumed its journey, continuing until they reached Fluorescent Castle.
Lord Sally and Lord Utreras, having received the news in advance, were already awaiting at Fluorescent Castle. Right outside the castle gate, the caravan pulled by thunder beasts split up, and the lords each protected their own purchased serfs on the way home.
Russell also arranged for Eric to escort the more than a thousand serfs he bought back to Wuyao Snake Manor overnight.
However, he himself was pulled aside by Lady Meryl to stay the night at Fluorescent Castle.
Once the thunder beasts pulling the carts had dispersed and the castle had returned to its tranquility, Baron Roman inspected Unicorn Polly very closely and couldn’t help but exclaim, “Truly a majestic steed, second only to the Nightmare Specter Horse!”
“Hmph!” Polly snorted disdainfully, as it didn’t consider itself a warhorse.
Russell petted its horn to soothe Polly’s mood. Upon entering the warm lands, Polly was somewhat nervous.
It had lived alone on the snowfields and was unaccustomed to human contact.
“Father, Polly is a very unique fantasy beast. It might not have evolved from a horse,” Russell said.
During their travels, he had figured out most of Polly’s situation.
Especially with help from the fantasy beast whispering, he quickly understood how Polly differed from ordinary fantasy beasts.
First off, Polly’s intelligence was clearly higher than Kevin’s or Jerry’s, approaching that of a normal human. Secondly, Polly’s magic was very special, and it was a fixed passive type of magic that Russell had named Wind Walking Skill.
The Wind Walking Skill was always active, allowing Polly to race through the void, moving as swiftly as the wind.
Last of all, Polly had a second kind of magic – the ability to peer into the Gloomy Dreamland, which Russell named Wraithwalk.
When Polly activated Wraithwalk, its body would vanish.
With the aid of the Ice Pellet Pearl and the Quiet Dream Gaze, Russell could see Polly’s figure as though it had hidden itself within the Gloomy Dreamland.
However, once hidden in the Gloomy Dreamland, Polly lost the Wind Walking Skill magic and could only walk on the ground. Its vision still saw the real world rather than the Magic Light. But when the Little Dream Dragon’s Gloomy Dreamland prevailed, Polly could see both the Little Dream Dragon and Russell on its back.
Anyway, Wraithwalk magic was amazing.
In Russell’s view, under the enhancement of magic power, Polly’s body might have slipped into the boundary area between the real world and Gloomy Dreamland, as if she had one foot in the Gloomy Dreamland but hadn’t completely entered.
No matter what, it was an incredibly powerful skill.
Thanks to the Wind Walking Skill and Wraithwalk, her value far exceeded that of the Red-eyed Rat King Jerry.
“How could it not have evolved from a horse,” Baron Roman refuted Russell’s guess, “Look at its appearance, it clearly evolved from a horse. It’s undeniable that all fantasy beasts evolve from wild beasts.”
“Snort!” Polly resisted this explanation.
Russell changed the subject, looking towards Lady Meryl, “Mother, is dinner ready yet? I’m so hungry, I could eat a horse.”
“Come in, dinner is ready,” Lady Meryl, concerned for her son, quickly ushered the father and son into the hall.
Polly and Jerry, naturally, had the castle’s servants come to feed them.
The baron and his wife had already had their dinner, so they simply sat at the table, watching Russell wolf down his food.
“Did you see your elder brother?” Lady Meryl asked.
“I did,” Russell replied without looking up, “I stayed one night in my brother’s courtyard, oh right, after I offered the White Dew Rain Dragon cigars to the duke, he really liked the gift and hosted a banquet for me.”
“Is that so, how was your conversation?”
“Not bad, the duke laid out a vision for the future, and I went along with it,” Russell said briefly.
Baron Roman also asked, “Did you only see the duke, what about Princess Anxia and Princess Kunlaya?”
“Um, I didn’t see Princess Anxia, but I did see Princess Kunlaya,” Russell said, his eyes shimmering slightly as the delicate and pretty image of Princess Kunlaya flashed through his mind, along with her crisp and somewhat milky voice.
“Even though you didn’t see Princess Anxia, your trip was worthwhile,” Baron Roman nodded in satisfaction.
“I am indeed very satisfied with this trip,” Russell said, “Not only did I buy more than a thousand serfs, but I also recruited over a hundred of the Cavern Free People to join us. Of course, the biggest surprise was finding Unicorn Polly in Snow Forest.”
Baron Roman smiled, what he meant by a worthwhile trip was not the serfs or the fantasy beast.
After dinner, the conversation about Russell’s trip to Red Castle was almost finished, and the baron and his wife went back to their rooms to rest.
“Russell truly manages to catch the eye of the Shadowflame Dragon wherever he goes,” Lady Meryl remarked as her maid removed her makeup.
Baron Roman held a gazette, idly reading, “Indeed.”
The couple chatted sporadically until the maids left, and then he said, “Sending Russell to Red Castle this time was the right move.”
“It’s good for him to gain more experience,” she agreed.
“No, I’m talking about Russell meeting Princess Kunlaya,” Baron Roman said excitedly, “I could see the light in Russell’s eyes when he mentioned Princess Kunlaya, something no other girl has achieved.”
“Really, dear, are you seriously considering that Russell might have a future with Princess Kunlaya?” Lady Meryl frowned.
She continued worriedly, “You’re not still fantasizing about Russell riding the Shadowflame Dragon, are you?”
“What’s the harm in dreaming,” Baron Roman replied, “Besides, this boy is too proud to settle for ordinary girls; it’s rare for him to take a shine to one… Who knows what the future holds? Let’s just go with the flow.”
“Princess Kunlaya is only ten years old.”
“Russell is only sixteen, these few years are perfect for him to focus on his practice. Once he becomes stronger, Red Castle will naturally take notice of him.”
“I’m not as optimistic as you,” Lady Meryl sighed, “I still need to find suitable noble young ladies for Russell. He has only met a few girls so far, and maybe next time he’ll meet his true love.”
“As you wish.”
“But you’re right about one thing, Russell’s status is different now, and the daughters of ordinary lords are no longer suitable,” Lady Meryl quickly became distressed again, “But there are only so many young ladies in baron and earl families, and they might not necessarily fancy Russell…”
