Chapter 214 - 214 213 I See You
Chapter 214: Chapter 213 I See You Chapter 214: Chapter 213 I See You Russell spent all the money he brought, not only buying a group of serfs worth five hundred Gold Coins but also purchasing some wax bismuth essence and two palm-sized pieces of red chalcedony.
After that, the Thunder Beast caravan changed from hauling goods to transporting people, taking away several thousand serfs in a grand departure from Furious Wind City.
Many serfs, with expressions of reluctance, looked back at Furious Wind City growing ever more distant, fearing the unknown life ahead, while many others gazed curiously at everything along the road, longing for a new life in a new territory.
As each serf was purchased at a high price, the caravan took their protection very seriously.
Warm cotton clothes had been prepared, and food and drink were appropriately arranged throughout the journey.
This undoubtedly made Russell feel much better.
“Though it’s called the slave trade, in reality, it’s just immigration,” said Russell, who couldn’t bear the burden of a moral conscience, and smiled.
As they left the range of the volcano, the palm of his left hand, long absent of heat, began to warm up again.
Free from the suppression of the Shadowflame Dragon’s power, the Little Dream Dragon felt capable again. Russell opened his left palm to look, and as expected, the M-shaped mark was slowly burning. The Sword Butterfly Mark and the Thorns Mark were also merrily responding.
“See you tonight, Ice Cream,” Russell whispered softly.
Then he clenched his fist, and the burning marks extinguished, tiny sparks drifting out from between his fingers, before they disappeared into thin air.
That night, as expected, Gloomy Dreamland descended once more.
A man and a dragon, a butterfly and a flower, played joyfully in the pitch-black world, even discovering the Magic Light of phantom beasts in the surrounding forest.
The next day, the private whispers of mythical beasts once again rang in Russell’s ears.
In this manner, the caravan traveled swiftly, swiftly reaching You Guang Ji, rested there for a night, and then set off across the snowfields again.
“Ga!”
On the snowfields’ first night, Russell, riding the Little Dream Dragon, continued to advance to the northwest, encountering several scattered groups of Snow Ghosts on the way.
The growing Little Dream Dragon just had to open its mouth to turn all these Snow Ghosts into Ice Pellet Pearls.
Crunching them up served as a satisfying snack.
Unfortunately, along the Mountain River Trade Route, there were indeed no traces of Snow Demons or large groups of Snow Ghosts. The Little Dream Dragon kept on roaring, striking out in all directions for days, only to find a few or at most a dozen Ice Pellet Pearls at night.
Unnoticed, the Thunder Beast-driven caravan reached the initial hot spring point and set up camp.
Seizing the daylight, Russell took Eric and rushed towards the Snow Forest.
Upon the Heavenly Well Watchtower, Baron Marcus, who never dared to leave his post watching over the caravan, furrowed his brows and watched the two of them ride into the distant Snow Forest.
“Russell, it seems, wants to find something in the Snow Forest?”
If Russell’s visit to the Snow Forest at the start of the journey could be excused as a playful outing, his return there on the way back could not simply be put down to play.
“Could it be that he’s discovered some magical creature in the Snow Forest?” Marcus easily jumped to this conclusion but soon shook his head, “Spirit Insects can’t exist, there has never been news of Spirit Insects in the Snow Forest, so it must be a Fantasy Beast!”
Thinking of Fantasy Beasts, Marcus felt a surge of excitement, wishing he could rush over and seize it for himself.
Although he had reached the peak of his training as a High-ranking Mythical Beast Knight with two transfers, unable to further bond with a third Fantasy Beast, if he could capture one and raise it, he could later train his subordinates or save it for his son’s future contract.
The benefits were enormous.
But he soon calmed down, “Lord Baron had spent a great deal capturing the Silver Winged Wind Fox, relying solely on my own power, or even combined with Eric, it would be impossible to catch a wild Fantasy Beast.”
As for Russell, he was dismissed from consideration.
“Even if there is a Fantasy Beast in this Snow Forest, it’s not something this Russell kid could catch… When he comes back, I can subtly probe to see if they really found a Fantasy Beast… If so, I might also try my luck!”
All the miraculous creations on the territory belong to the Lord, but the miraculous creations outside the territory are for those with virtue to possess.
Russell could capture it, and Marcus could do the same.
Having this thought, Marcus then ordered a subordinate knight to report back to him immediately when Russell returned. He turned around and descended from the watchtower and went back to his encampment at Cold Spring Point for rest.
…
Elsewhere, Russell quickly made his way into Snow Forest.
He was confident that the Fantasy Beast was still hiding here, and the reason was simple; it was before the caravan had reached Cold Spring Point.
He had heard a familiar and weird whispering voice saying, “Humans are here again, I must hide in Snow Forest… I hate the Snowfield so much, it’s really cold, why can’t I create fire? I want to set the whole Snow Forest ablaze.”
Without a doubt, this Fantasy Beast lived at Cold Spring Point, and whenever human caravans passed by, it would quietly sneak into the Snow Forest.
What puzzled Russell, though, was that as he observed the snow-covered ground along the way, he didn’t find any fresh tracks.
Aside from his and Eric’s warhorses’ tracks, there were no other footprints.
“Could this Fantasy Beast fly?” Russell thought as he rode his warhorse around in Snow Forest for a bit, discovering that there were no footprints inside the forest either.
The whispers of the Fantasy Beast did not continue either.
But this didn’t hinder Russell; in the palm of his left hand, he was already holding an Ice Pellet Pearl that he had exchanged for at You Guang Ji.
He had exchanged several as reserves.
No sooner said than done, he activated the Quiet Dream Gaze skill; his eyes closed and then opened, and in an instant, his entire field of vision had dramatically changed.
No longer was it the dusky evening appearance of Snow Forest, but a pitch-black world like that of Gloomy Dreamland.
The warhorse beneath him was no longer visible, and even his own body was only outlined by the Magic Light in his main meridians, as if floating mid-air.
Of course.
Eric, Kevin the Gold and Silver Wolfhound, and Jerry the Red-eyed Rat King all had their bodies clearly outlined.
Without spare time to observe himself and his companions, Russell had already turned a full circle on horseback, his gaze sweeping across the entire Snow Forest.
He quickly locked onto a direction to the southeast.
There, a burst of Magic Light revealed the outline of a warhorse, but on the horse’s head, there seemed to be a very bright, long horn.
“This way… It looks like a Unicorn!” Russell exclaimed inwardly.
Then his gaze firmly fixed on the Fantasy Beast that resembled a Unicorn, and stretching out his hand toward the distant Unicorn, he shouted, “I see you, I’ve found you, Unicorn!”
Just at that moment.
The weird whispering voice returned, “Yikes, that handsome human with pretty pale golden hair, what is he saying? Has he seen me? Impossible, I’m so good at playing hide and seek, it can’t be!”
“No, nothing is impossible, I have seen you, Unicorn, so come out and let me touch your horn!” Russell immediately shouted loudly.
“Sir?” Eric was stunned. He tried hard to look in the direction that Russell was pointing but saw no trace of any Unicorn.
But Russell had no time to address his confusion.
Although the weird whisper did not sound again, he clearly saw the Fantasy Beast outlined by Magic Light quietly flying away.
It wasn’t running on the snow, but rather flying through the air, darting from treetop to treetop.
It was fast and silent.
Seeing that the minute of the Quiet Dream Gaze was about to end, Russell quickly took out a second Ice Pellet Pearl to extend the time and continued to lock onto the flying Unicorn until it hovered atop a snow cedar tree.
He quickly pointed there and then shouted, “Stop running, I’m watching you, Unicorn! Come here, I’ve brought you some nice things, the warmth-preserving wax rhus essence, and red agate, all precious artifacts of Magic Power!”
