Chapter 686: Chapter 681: Melee One
’Thick Earth Formation: Draws upon the power of ten different types of thick earth, forming a defense system to resist formidable enemies. Tests have shown it can withstand attacks from a Fifth Rank cultivator for thirty days. It can also endure attacks from a hundred Fourth Rank cultivators for the same duration. When not in combat and at rest, it can heal and recover on its own. During an attack, if it’s within the capacity of endurance, it can produce an equal counter-shock force, retaliating against the attacker. Price: 6,000 points.’
"This Thick Earth Formation... seems kind of interesting."
Lin Xin examined the detailed formation patterns of the Thick Earth Formation.
Decided to buy this one.
He then checked his current Contribution Points, still more than 120,000.
’Give me twenty sets straight away!’
His consciousness sent out the request.
Hum!
A beam of white light shone down from the Tower of Life, landing in front of Lin Xin. It transformed into a complete set of stacked array plates.
All were compass-like stone plates of earthy yellow hue, with strange symbols and patterns on them, and a green oval gemstone embedded in the center.
"Is this the Thick Earth Formation?" Lin Xin picked up the stack of array plates, feeling a surprising heft in his hands, the stack weighing around seven to eight hundred pounds.
He casually took an array plate and saw it was densely inscribed with runes from the Human World, some of which Lin Xin recognized.
No matter.
Lin Xin, carrying the pile of array plates, left the courtyard and headed outside the Taoist Palace.
"Prepare the materials for the formation."
He ordered in his mind, and the dwarves etcetera started to bring the materials.
The key catalyzing materials were already gathered on the array plate, and the materials needed for the formation were only to enhance the effects of the array plates.
In fact, the formations from the Tower of Life were semi-finished products; only the final few steps were needed to complete the formation. This design allowed even resource-scarce domains in the Void Territory to use them.
Taking out an array plate, Lin Xin quickly maneuvered the Decree inscribed on it, summoning the clear waters from beneath the earth.
Then he tossed the array plate forward.
Boom!!
In an instant, a thunderous noise erupted, and the array plate burst open. A thick yellow stone pillar quickly rose from the ground, adorned with flickering blue runes.
Ten different colors of soil appeared out of thin air, revolving around the pillar continuously.
Red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple, gold, silver, white.
Ten colors of soil, each only a dab, yet the radiance they released was as blinding as tiny suns.
Lin Xin then released the core of the molten heart with a gesture of his hand.
The earthy yellow orb instantly merged into the surface of the pillar, disappearing from sight.
A layer of earthy yellow luminous film quickly covered the internal wall of the formation.
The light from the ten kinds of soil quieted down, returning to normal.
"The Thick Earth Formation is complete."
Lin Xin carefully felt the robust elemental energy of the Thick Earth Formation, clearly sensing that all around within the formation, a vast amount of Earth Attribute Elemental Energy was being drawn in, integrating into the formation.
With the supply from the core of the molten heart, the Thick Earth Formation’s intensity was additionally enhanced.
Due to an unexpected compatibility with the core of the molten heart, the entire formation managed a slight elevation, advancing from the First Level of the Fifth Rank to the Second Level.
"Not bad, it’s about the same as a standard Fifth Rank defensive formation. For mass-produced items to reach this level is pretty impressive."
Lin Xin continued to take out a second Thick Earth Formation set and repeated the process.
Soon, the second Thick Earth Formation was also covered.
Then the third...
As the layers of the Thick Earth Formation accumulated, the formation’s film surrounding the wasteland became increasingly deep in color, gradually turning from semi-transparent to a frosted glass look, obscuring what was inside.
Only a layer of gray-brown light curtain was visible, enclosing the whole wasteland, trembling slowly.
However, as more formations were layered, the friction and entanglement between them became tighter. The flow of elemental energy and resulting radiation interference also became more severe.
By the sixth set, Lin Xin’s speed had considerably slowed; he had to focus entirely on isolating the disruptive radiation during the formation activation to prevent it from affecting the other established formations from the inside.
But it was faintly visible that the same Thick Earth Formation, when stack upon each other, gradually formed a massive resonance and vibrational force of elemental energy.
The seventh set of Thick Earth Formation became a beam of yellow light that shot out from Lin Xin’s hand.
He exhaled quietly, then took out the eighth set.
Looking up at the sky above, the space over the wasteland was now enveloped by a complete dome of earth-yellow protective shield.
The immense shield, like glazed glass, looked extremely solid, and within it, colored elemental liquid could be seen slowly flowing.
The Land for God Worship had ties to the Earth Immortal’s Immortal Foundation, and it was also related to what was currently his weakest time ever; Lin Xin dared not be the least bit negligent.
After thoroughly checking the formation for any explosion risks due to interferences, and confirming it was safe, he slowly released the eighth set of the Thick Earth Formation.
Quickly, the eighth set was slowly established, and by the ninth set, Lin Xin had grasped the pattern for setting up in this special state, becoming gradually proficient.
His actions became faster again.
The tenth set, eleventh set... twelfth set...
As the layers of the Thick Earth Formation were stacked, the invisible force of the Earth System Elemental Force was drawn in like a tide, gathering around the wasteland.
Lin Xin did not know the current extent of the formation, but he was aware that if the Land for God Worship were breached this time, he would definitely die a true death.
Moo!!!
Suddenly, a deep, bellowing sound, like a cow yet not, transmitted from one side of the Void.
Lin Xin’s expression tightened, and he quickly broke free from the formation’s film, looking in the opposite direction from where the sound originated.
In the dark Void, a horrific black monster, large enough to be tens of miles in size, resembling a sea lion or whale, was flapping its wings slowly, gliding towards his own direction over the wasteland.
"Walrus Demon....!"
Lin Xin’s heart sank. Walrus Demons are immensely powerful, and if one were to charge directly into his wasteland, no amount of formations would make a difference.
"This is trouble...."
******************
In the void, a gigantic black creature fiercely expelled two streams of air from its sides, propelling itself towards its target.
Countless Void Demon Spirits, like black fog, swirled around it, being dragged along by an invisible force of attraction.
The Horned Demon General sat cross-legged on top of the Walrus Demon’s head, staring ahead at the wasteland that looked like a terracotta-colored lightbulb from afar.
The entire area of the wasteland wasn’t even as big as the body of the Walrus Demon.
"So that’s the place."
He sighed slightly.
"So small, just crash into it directly."
With a thought from him, the giant Walrus Demon beneath him hummed, let out a great roar, and swam directly towards the wasteland.
It even accelerated, clearly intending to smash into it head-on.
In such a size comparison, if the Walrus Demon were really to collide head-on, even if the wasteland weren’t destroyed, it would be knocked into the depths of the void, into an unknown location.
Once it left the territory of the Human Race and entered the depths of the void, even the mightiest cultivator would likely face more peril than fortune, succumbing to a siege and dying.

Wasteland
Lin Xin’s expression turned serious as he hovered in mid-air, aided by the formation on his robe, watching the Walrus Demon charging at high speed.
He had calculated a thousand possibilities but hadn’t considered that the enemy wouldn’t care about anything and just power through with brute force.
"Nephew, do not worry, I will handle this."
A familiar and rough voice came from below.
Lin Xin looked towards the source of the voice, and his face lit up slightly.
"Greetings, Uncle Master."
He bowed with his fists clenched.
A huge blood-red dragon turtle slowly ascended from below.
The dragon turtle shook its head and chewed slowly on a few Void Demon Spirits resembling elephant-nosed humans it held in its mouth.
"Your elder brother sent me to keep watch over you, and indeed, it seems I’ve come to good use. You need not be too courteous; this is but one of my avatars, which can only stay here for three days. After I take care of this batch, you will still need to rely on yourself to cope with what comes next.
The path to god worship will naturally trigger many calamities; some arise from cause and effect, some are purely accidental, and others merely result from collateral human disasters. But, in reality, all of these should be dealt with by you alone."
"Does Uncle Master mean... that these calamities are both preordained fate and nourishment for ascension?"
Lin Xin instantly grasped the meaning of his Uncle Master, the Dragon Turtle.
"Glad you understand," the Dragon Turtle chuckled. "Alright, I’m off."
At this moment, its body was tens of miles huge, a dragon head hovered in front of Lin Xin, with a single nostril hair thicker than Lin Xin himself.
Turning to charge at the vast army of Void Demon Spirits, its entire body trembled fiercely, and countless fire clouds appeared around it.
Within the fire clouds, figures made of flames, holding blood-colored pitchforks, could be vaguely seen.
Lin Xin watched as his Uncle Master’s avatar charged headlong into the oncoming Walrus Demon.
Boom!!!
Irresistible, the very void itself exploded into a large mass of black flesh and blood.
Numerous Void Demon Spirits screamed and howled as they were engulfed by the fire clouds, turning into white skeletal frames in the blink of an eye.
The Walrus Demon, struck by the blow, immediately fell apart, letting out a miserable cry before exploding into countless pieces of black flesh that splattered everywhere.
The Dragon Turtle Uncle Master’s avatar also seemed to dissipate quickly after the collision, fading away until it became transparent and disappeared into the void.
Lin Xin looked from afar. Many Void Demon Spirits had escaped the calamity, but the greatest threat, the Walrus Demon, was eliminated, and the rest would require a grind to resolve.
Ao!!!
With the death of the Walrus Demon, another fierce roar emanated from the direction of the Void Legion.
The legion’s commander seemed extremely angry.
The entire black legion hesitated, then quickly regrouped the severely depleted remaining Demon Spirits under the roars, forming a huge black cloud pressing towards the wasteland.
Lin Xin took one last look, then entered the terracotta-colored formation above the wasteland.
The entire wasteland, suspended in the void, resembled a giant terracotta egg, emitting a faint yellow glow.
Lin Xin returned to the wasteland with a grave expression.
Even with the strength of a Sixth Rank, his Uncle Master’s avatar had directly collided and dissipated, and yet it failed to completely rout this C-rank legion.
"It seems they’ve come with overwhelming momentum...."
His mind raced with countless thoughts flashing through his mind.
Knowing that even the avatar of his Uncle Master, at the Sixth Rank, couldn’t rout the legion, he realized that if he threw his own body into the fray, he would be little more than a slightly larger mob, of little use.
A sense of life-and-death crisis began to loom over him.
"It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this way...."
Lin Xin licked his lips, a spark of excitement that even he himself didn’t notice flashing in his eyes.
Under the pressure, his mind raced with one idea after another, but most were quickly dismissed.
