Chapter 643: Chapter 638 The Plot Revealed Part 2
Even if ten thousand Demon Spirits were to form a circle, their density alone could create a gigantic sphere hundreds of meters across.
Simply slashing at the ones within arm’s reach, managing to kill dozens in an instant with ten thousand swords would be considered quite good.
Thus, Lin Xin knew that most of his strength was being used to repel the Demon Spirits, to gain opportunities to catch his breath and switch tactics.
Moreover, most of the time, he was actually responding to the assaults launched by the army of Demon Spirits. The immense tail of the Elephant Trunk Turtle, the sharp claws of small Void creatures, and the dark qi occasionally emitted by dragon-headed beings.
In the swings of his sword, the majority were for defense.
Most of the actual slaughter was carried out using the large-scale Purifying Fire or by extending and sweeping Sword Light.
But both strategies consumed an enormous amount of energy. He wouldn’t use them lightly. To be able to continue using them for an entire day, his endurance would have to be frightening.
A typical cultivator of the same stage, unleashing major moves as recklessly as he, Lin Xin was confident they wouldn’t last an hour.
So to have over forty thousand attributes, and to have killed over four million Void Demon Spirits, was already inconceivable to him.
He stood up from the bed.
Reaching for his Space Ring, he grasped nothing but air.
Only then did he realize that the hand that wore his Space Ring had long been chopped off; this hand had just grown back.
Not only that, but all of his belongings, including things like Spatial Chains, were either damaged beyond repair or lost.
There were simply too many Demon Spirits, and their attacks were too frequent. He had no time to care for his possessions.
After moving his body slightly, Lin Xin exhaled deeply in his room and pushed the door open to step out.
Outside was a mountain of countless black carcasses.
The remains and limbs of Void Demon Spirits were scattered everywhere, piled haphazardly into hills both high and low, akin to trash.
All around the perimeter of the battle fortress, such heaps of corpses stood over ten meters tall.
There was only a narrow path in the middle, evidently just recently cleared. Through the path, one could see, at the end, both steel beings and Flower Demons coming and going on the walls of the fortress, patrolling and occasionally pushing corpses off the walls.
An overwhelming stench of blood assaulted the senses.
Suppressing the discomfort in his heart, Lin Xin checked the Taoist Soldier buildings in his mind.
The Taoist Soldier Seed of the steel beings was utterly destroyed.
The little garden of the Flower Demon was severely damaged as well, but to his relief, the surviving few Flower Demons were actually repairing it. Right now, they were constantly releasing Spiritual Light with both hands, fixing the damages to their garden.
"These carcasses must be dealt with as soon as possible. According to the rules, the corpses of Void Demon Spirits can be sold for Contribution Points or other materials.
However, they need to be transformed and transported by the Tower of Life."
Mentioning the Tower of Life, Lin Xin squinted his eyes. Where was his Tower of Life? Logically speaking, after receiving the prompt from the Jade Talisman, it should arrive immediately.
But how many days has it been now?
A feeling of heaviness settled in his heart; he had almost perished, obliterated from existence had it not been for the sudden departure of the Demon Spirit army. If he had held on for just a moment longer, he might have been completely spent.
"I don’t recall having any enemies within the Sect."
His face darkened.
Such wartime requests should be dealt with immediately, with the fastest response.
But not only did his request fail to get immediate attention, it was delayed for over ten days. After finally being prompted, it ended up being broken!
If he had truly believed that the Tower of Life was arriving shortly, thus exploding with full force to temporarily drive back the Demon Spirits,
only to realize when expecting its arrival that there was no sign of it, by then he would be exhausted and unable to fight, likely spelling certain death!
Ding!
Suddenly, the Jade Talisman sounded again.
A beam of light burst forth right in front of Lin Xin.
The beam was white, with wisps of vapor rotating around it and points of Runes flickering like stars.
Rumble...!
Amidst the rumbling noise, a small tower with a pattern resembling screw threads materialized in front of Lin Xin.
"Lord Lin Xin, your Tower of Life has been delivered, with one hundred Contribution Points automatically deducted. Please accept our apologies, due to the urgency of the wartime situation, there have been delays in the production and transmission of the Tower of Life...."
A gentle female voice emanated from the Jade Talisman on Lin Xin’s chest.
This Jade Talisman was incredibly hard, undamaged by the continuous battles. Its functions were intact, just as before the battle.
"Then why did you inform me that it would arrive within two days?"
Lin Xin interrupted with narrowed eyes.
The voice hesitated, apparently considering how to explain.
"Because there has been a delay in the transmission...."
"You should be aware that I am the Third True Transmission, and I will certainly investigate this matter thoroughly upon my return," Lin Xin’s tone grew somber.
"Think carefully before you speak, whether you can bear the consequences."
The female voice fell silent.
And then there was quiet.
Lin Xin patiently waited.
After a moment, the voice in the Jade Talisman spoke again.
"...It’s not our fault... we had already begun the transmission, if it weren’t for...."
"Chen Huan! Mind your words!!"
The woman hadn’t finished her sentence when another voice harshly interrupted.
"Let her finish!"
Lin Xin suddenly roared, pulling the Jade Talisman out with a slap.
"Immortal Master Lin...."
"I’m saying," Lin Xin’s face darkened to near blackness, "let her finish."
The other person, sensing the rage on Lin Xin’s end, dared not make another sound.
The previously interrupted woman’s voice was now trembling.
"We... we had already started the transmission, then... then... it was Fairy Qiao... she... she said she wanted it...."
"Qiao Yu!!!"
Again, Qiao Yu!!
A surge of malicious anger shot through Lin Xin’s heart.
Hum!!
He stomped fiercely on the ground.
Cracks spread wildly, forming a terrifying pit over ten meters wide.
The massive recoil sent him soaring into the sky, vanishing in a flash toward the distance.
The nearest Teleportation Formation was being constructed by Feng Huai.
*******************
White Jade City.
In a long-distance teleportation formation, white light shimmered, and suddenly a figure in tattered green robes materialized.
Lin Xin’s expression was grim as he shot into the sky and sped towards the city.
"Who goes there!"
Several Taoist soldier guards shouted, but upon recognizing him, they hesitated for a moment and lowered their weapons.
In that instant, Lin Xin sped past the Taoist soldiers and dashed into White Jade City.
After several high-speed shifts,
a few minutes later,
he gently landed in front of the gate to Qiao Yu’s mansion and looked up at the protective Barrier that loomed above the estate.
"Immortal Master Lin! Please don’t be rash!!"
A few cultivators who had received the news also arrived in time and began to shout from a distance.
"Rash?"
Lin Xin’s face showed a peaceful smile.
"I’m just here to ask for some compensation from Sister Qiao. What’s rash about that? Why are you all hurrying over here?"
These several cultivators were all clad in white jade-colored Armor and held curved swords glowing with faint spiritual light.
Clearly, they were commanding officers of the city’s defensive cultivators.
Behind them followed several platoons of other Taoist soldiers, rapidly converging from afar.
"The matter of the Tower of Life and Soul was indeed a misunderstanding, Immortal Master Lin..." the leading officer spoke hesitantly.
"Of course, but the compensation that’s due to me must not be short. Sister Qiao wouldn’t be so petty, right?"
Lin Xin chuckled.
"Why have so many of you come? Don’t tell me you think I would lay a hand on Sister Qiao?"
"We’re just glad that Immortal Master Lin understands restraint," the cultivator officer said with an awkward smile.
He had rushed over to be on guard as soon as he received the message from the research institute, fearing that Lin Xin might act impulsively.
Now it seemed that Lin Xin was indeed here for compensation, which allowed him to sigh in relief.
Lin Xin knocked on the door.
The gate to Qiao’s mansion opened, and a maid carefully looked out at Lin Xin.
"It’s Immortal Master Lin. Please wait a moment while I inform my mistress."
"Of course."
Lin Xin smiled politely.
Seeing this, the officers and others felt a bit more relieved but still approached cautiously for safety’s sake.
"Please wait for a moment, Immortal Master."
The maid had just turned to run inside the mansion.
Shick!
Suddenly a green streak flashed by her side.
"No good!!"
The hearts of the officers and the others skipped a beat.
The mansion’s formation trembled.
Boom!!
The light screen of the Formation fell, but it was a step too late.
The green streak, Lin Xin, had already penetrated the mansion’s courtyard.
*************
Qiao Yu sat in the middle of her courtyard, examining a stone sculpture while holding a jade knife in her hand.
"What’s still missing? I always feel something is not right."
Her brows were slightly furrowed, her expression one of confusion.
The stone sculpture in front of her was beautiful, but it seemed lifeless.
"Sister Qiao seems to have a nice hobby."
Suddenly a strange voice came from the doorway of the courtyard.
Qiao Yu shifted her gaze to the source of the voice.
"It’s you?" She frowned at first glance and slowly stood up.
Lin Xin stepped calmly into the courtyard, a smile on his face, as he slowly drew his Dual Swords.
"I’m deeply grateful for the Tower of Life and Soul incident. I have come today to personally express my thanks," he said.
Qiao Yu instantly felt a surge of caution, her face changing slightly as she stepped back.
Almost reflexively, she threw out a purple Jade Talisman, emanating Spiritual Light to protect herself.
Shick!
At that instant, Lin Xin’s figure appeared behind her, his swords crossing to bring forth a silver cross.
The Jade Talisman shattered, and the force of the impact hit Qiao Yu hard.
Thump!
She was flung violently, tumbling upon impact with the Formation’s inner wall, creating myriad ripples.
"You!!??"
She hadn’t even grasped the situation when she saw Lin Xin appear before her once more.
Thump!
An overwhelming force pressed down on her, Lin Xin’s foot standing on her head as he bent over slightly.
"Go on, kill me if you dare!!!" Qiao Yu’s eyes turned red. Never in her life had anyone dared to humiliate her like this!
"If you give me a chance, I’ll make you pay, with nowhere to bury your corpse!!"
She struggled furiously, but to no avail; whether it was the purity of her Qi or her own physical strength, everything was far inferior to her opponent.
"How unsightly...."
Lin Xin shook his head slightly.
"When you trapped me in the Tower of Life and Soul, almost costing my life, did you ever consider that you’d face a day like this?"
"You want me dead with no place to bury my body?!"
Bang!
He kicked Qiao Yu hard in the stomach, his terrible power instantly breaking her spine into several pieces.
Qiao Yu’s body flew across the room, rolling to the other side of the Barrier.
Just in time to be seen by the White Jade City officers outside, frantically trying to break through the Barrier. The group went pale and, realizing the dreadfulness of the situation, they began to attack the Barrier with increased ferocity.
Several maids separated by the Barrier turned ashen-faced, crying out aloud in terror.
