Chapter 507: Chapter 501 Overwhelming Power Six
Yellow sand filled the air, constantly lifted by the howling wind into layer upon layer of yellow fog.
In the midst of Shagula Evil God Temple, within the Forbidden Land of the Shape-shifting Cave.
Corpses, flesh, and huge craters blasted open by golden light were everywhere.
Only remnants of buildings remained, with walls broken and in ruins, and large pits several meters wide becoming the most visible features of the entire site.
In the most central area, an elliptical, egg-shaped white zone, a giant stone tablet over two hundred meters tall was tilted at an angle.
The lower half of this tablet was buried in the sand, its gray-black stone surface engraved with densely packed mysterious scriptures.
All the scriptures faintly glowed with a silver luminance, inscrutable and unfathomable.
Lin Xin stood before the stone tablet, his height of one meter eighty even less than the size of a single character.
The Sima siblings stood by his side, their expressions cautious and careful, also carrying a trace of reverence.
"In primordial ancient times, this stone tablet was already passed down,"
Lin Xin gently caressed the tablet, somewhat emotional.
"From antiquity to the present, many brilliant and incomparable individuals have left their mark throughout the ages. Yet, they do not realize that these marks too will slowly vanish as civilizations perish."
The ancient demon gods were once so powerful, destroying heavens and earth, dominating everything, yet they still could not withstand the relentless flow of time.
No matter how strong, how ferocious, how mysterious, if one does not achieve eternity, everything is illusory. The only thing that can be left behind is like the scriptures of the Moon God before their eyes, with nothing but their text left for future generations to admire.
"This stone tablet is from primordial ancient times? That would be tens of thousands of years, wouldn’t it?" Sima Nanjiu’s eyes shone as he reached out to touch the characters on the stone, which glowed silver and twisted in such a way that one could not make out what language they were written in.
Since he had been discovered by Lin Xin, he had been brought here with his two sisters; this area was the core of the entire Forbidden Land.
His sisters wanted to search for their cousin, but constrained by Lin Xin’s ferocity, they dared not move or speak. They were just silent at the moment.
Sima Nanjiu, however, hadn’t thought so much; as he touched the characters, he couldn’t hold back any longer.
"Master, I want to look for my cousin."
"What’s your relationship to him?" Lin Xin asked casually.
"We have never met."
"Within ten li, apart from us, there is no other sign of life. You should prepare your hearts for mourning," Lin Xin stated indifferently, delivering the harsh truth.
The Sima siblings each had an inkling in their hearts, but hearing Lin Xin speak, they couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
Under that attack, almost like a natural disaster, even a Golden Core Cultivator would probably only resign to bitter hatred if they could not escape.
Sima Nanjiu felt suddenly dejected. Although he had never met that cousin, they were still related by blood, and he hadn’t expected that in this attack, the cousin would be killed by the master he had just acknowledged.
"The people of the Shape-shifting Cave will not let you off!" Sima Kongyan said coldly.
"Since I made a move, I naturally have preparations to deal with the consequences," Lin Xin replied, glancing at her impassively.
Boom!
Sima Kongyan’s body was suddenly seized by an invisible immense force, violently flung against the nearby stone tablet.
"Master, please spare her!" cried Sima Nanjiu in haste.
"My sister spoke rashly in a moment of agitation," he said nervously.
Sima Qing didn’t even dare to breathe loudly at the side, only watching as Sima Kongyan was pinned against the tablet, unable to move.
Lin Xin smiled, looking at Sima Kongyan.
"Remember, your brother is my disciple, you are not. I’ll let this go, but there won’t be a next time."
Sima Kongyan’s eyes widened in terror, unable to utter a word, only whimpering. Fear and a plea for mercy shone in her eyes.
It was only then that Lin Xin released his control, allowing her to fall to the ground.
Sima Qing and Sima Nanjiu quickly rushed to her side to comfort and support her.
However, Lin Xin’s attention was on the inscription of the massive stone tablet.
’Moon God Total Scripture’
The four large characters were carved in ancient Xinsi script.
It was a sacrificial text specifically praising the Moon God Shagula, and what was slightly odd was that parts of the hymn needed several sounds to be uttered together.
After scanning it briefly, Lin Xin soon found mention of the mysterious ’Yuan Dou Demonic Technique’ in a section.
’...Empty yet existing, existing yet not alive, alive yet without speech’, the Yuan Dou Demonic Technique says, ’The night sky suppresses the stars with abandon, forbidding them to wander, to shine, to emit Star Force, defying the natural laws of the universe...’
Lin Xin frowned and started to flip through the text again.
Before long, he found a few more instances where the Yuan Dou Demonic Technique was mentioned.
"Could it be that the Yuan Dou Demonic Technique is not as chaotic as Elder Hongye said, and is instead a conscious and great existence?"
He had to ponder this possibility.
The existence of the Moon God scripture certainly spanned tens of thousands of years, perhaps even more ancient than other ruins Lin Xin had seen in the nearby Outer Regions.
In that case, the recorded information had significant value.
Scanning quickly, he soon found another valuable section.
’...preserving one part of the night sky in that... profound place, with its left being... and its right... that is the final remains of the night sky.’
This clearly recorded the location of something, the part of the night sky being unknown to Lin Xin, but the specifics of the profound place and the locations on the left and right were clearly a detailed record of position.
However, the original characters on the tablet had disappeared, the marks indicating they were forcibly removed by someone.
"It seems to be quite confidential information, so it was dug out by the people of the Shape-shifting Cave," Lin Xin surmised, with a thoughtful expression.
"The Shape-shifting Cave, I had originally planned to ask Shànlù about the traces of the existence of the Spectral Mansion, as well as the roots of the otherworldly beings. But now, there is one more reason to go to the Shape-shifting Cave."
Shànlù is the longest living being in the history of the Central Prefecture; although his strength isn’t considered formidable, his longevity coupled with his strong life force and principles have allowed him to avoid many potential threats and crises.
"My dear disciple, will you leave with your master or will you go ahead to the East Prefecture by yourself?"
Lin Xin thought of this and directly asked Sima Nanjiu.
Sima Nanjiu’s face showed hesitation. He had a vague premonition that once he left this newly acknowledged master, it would require a very long time before they could meet again.
This premonition arose without cause and was very strong.
But he was also very reluctant to leave and wanted to go back first to bid farewell to his parents and family.
Sima Qing and her sister were also recovering from their shock. Seeing his hesitation, they were anxious. What was there to hesitate about? Hurry and find an excuse to run away!
But both sisters didn’t dare to speak out, fearing they might anger Lin Xin.
Sima Nanjiu hesitated for a moment and finally lifted his head with a hint of resolve and said,
"The disciple wishes to accompany the teacher."
Lin Xin stared intently at him, his eyes not moving or blinking.
In a blurred vision, he could vaguely sense that the person before him seemed to have some connection with himself; it was a faint and hazy connection.
It was because of this connection that he and Sima Nanjiu seemed to have hit it off from the start as naturally as master and disciple.
Suddenly, Lin Xin inquired,
"Has my disciple recently experienced itching or pain under the ribs?"
Sima Nanjiu was taken aback.
"Master is indeed clairvoyant. The disciple does feel itching and pain under the right ribs and was planning to seek a doctor’s examination after returning home this time."
Lin Xin had only asked on a whim but did not expect Sima Nanjiu to actually have this symptom.
His expression changed, and with a wave of his hand, he instantly drew Sima Nanjiu up, floating in front of him.
"Let your master have a look."
He laid his hand upon the area beneath Sima Nanjiu’s right ribs.
Indeed, a small bulge had formed there.
Lin Xin’s expression became grave as he quickly tapped Sima Nanjiu’s forehead with his hand.
Om!!
In an instant, everything around turned a shade of gray and white.
"Timeless heavens and earth, the cycles of reincarnation."
A ring of colored halos naturally emanated from Sima Nanjiu’s head. His eyes clouded over, seemingly dazed by the light tap.
This was a secret technique for stimulating latent potential and intellect that Lin Xin had developed over the years, originally meant for excavating potential and forcibly improving wisdom.
However, when applied to the soul of a reincarnated cultivator, it also served to unlock memories from past lives.
The colored halos constantly rotated and flickered behind Sima Nanjiu’s head. Those touched by the light, including Sima sisters, felt mentally refreshed, their consciousness more lucid and swift than ever.
Lin Xin, however, watched Sima Nanjiu with an exceedingly solemn gaze, almost certain now.
The young man before him was indeed the reincarnation of Nan Shunqing, his disciple’s soul!
Extending a finger, Lin Xin channeled the Star Force of the Yuan Dou Demonic Technique and lightly touched it to Sima Nanjiu’s forehead.
"Why are you not awakening, if not now, then when!!"
If the memories of past lives’ cycles of reincarnation missed the brief chance of awakening, they would forever lose the opportunity and be immersed in a completely new personality formed in this life.
Once the chance was gone, it was akin to failed awakening, the spiritual sense would be obscured, and they would live anew completely as a new person.
Hence, Lin Xin decisively made his move, with a voice filled with profound mana penetrating inward.
Sima Nanjiu’s whole body trembled, suddenly shaking violently.
His gaze cleared from the confusion and returned to coherence.
His eyes, no longer as naive and pure as before, now held a hint of nostalgia, a touch of helplessness, and more so an affectionate admiration as he looked towards Lin Xin.
"Thank you, master, for your salvation."
The colorful glow dissipated, and tranquility returned.
Sima Nanjiu landed back on the ground and bowed respectfully to Lin Xin.
His presence faintly exuded the familiar aura of Nan Shunqing that Lin Xin once knew well.
"I thought you were still in secluded cultivation in the Southern Prefecture... I did not expect..." Lin Xin looked at his most talented disciple with complex eyes.
Around him, there were layers upon layers of enigmatic auras.
In just a few decades, he had surged from a mere mortal to the Yuan Jing Layer. If it wasn’t for the mysterious injury sustained during the Mother Bug’s siege, he might have reached this level even earlier than Lin Xin himself.
"You’ve worried your master."
After awakening the memories of his past life, Sima Nanjiu was no longer just the prodigious genius of the Sima Family; he was Nan Shunqing, Lin Xin’s strongest disciple.
"Many worry for you, not just me. It’s time to go back and see everyone," Lin Xin sighed.
Nan Shunqing nodded respectfully.
"It was fortunate that the disciple anchored his soul with the causal point technique; otherwise, I might have..."
"What exactly happened back then? With your level of cultivation, how did you come to sustain such grave injuries in the Southern Prefecture?" Lin Xin asked with gravity.
