Chapter 278: Chapter 271 Chaos Part One
In the valley, Lin Xin slowly navigated through the unevenly dispersed rocks, and it wasn’t long before he saw a group of people in red clothes searching around ahead.
Two of the people in red seemed to have noticed him, their expressions turning wary.
"Who goes there!"
This place wasn’t accessible to just anyone. Without some skills in light body technique, one might not even find the entrance.
Huagu Valley was actually a ravine nestled between peaks, with no obvious entrances or exits, just two cliff-like spots at either end that allowed access.
It was impossible for ordinary people to reach, and even Jianghu folks who could make it wouldn’t come here without a reason.
Lin Xin gave a slight smile.
"And who might you be? Members of the Radiance Society?"
The two men in red tightened up, instantly sensing something was amiss.
"Are you here to help the Radiance Society or help us, the Red Clothes Cult!"
One of them asked harshly.
"Red Clothes Cult...." Lin Xin pondered slightly, his expression shifting between a smile and a non-smile. "What a pity...."
In a flash, he surged forward, covering a hundred meters instantly, leaving a trail of afterimages as he passed between the two men.
Shick.
The men had only drawn their long swords a third of the way before their eyes widened, a red line appearing at their necks. The line grew into a gaping wound, and eventually, their heads fell off as if they were mere objects.
Lin Xin’s Red Flower Sword remained sheathed; he merely flicked some blood from his fingertips and continued toward the depths of the valley.
Soon, he saw several more figures in red strategically positioned among the rocks, who moved toward him upon hearing the noise.
Appearing highly alert, these men immediately unsheathed their swords and shouted in a dialect he couldn’t understand as they charged at him.
Some of them displayed commendable light body skills, leaping over ten meters in bounds and turning into swirling wheels of blades as they threw themselves at him.
Lin Xin gently grasped the Red Flower Sword.
Clang!
A light sword sound emanated from the scabbard.
All the attackers in mid-air fell to the ground, their movements distorted as they crashed down hard. The ones rushing from behind also staggered, dizzy, with some even rolling on the ground and covering their ears.
Releasing the scabbard, Lin Xin walked through the gap between the rocks, passing by several figures in red lying on the ground, bleeding from every orifice and slowly dying under the dispersing sound waves.
He hadn’t walked far when two figures suddenly appeared in front of him.
It was a man in red clothes and a woman in a white dress. Strangely, a golden monkey tail stuck out behind the woman, swaying peculiarly.
The two of them, upon seeing the Red Clothes disciples lying dead around them, changed their expressions.
"How dare you!"
The man in red drew his sword with a counterhand and his face darkened as he strode towards Lin Xin.
"You’re no match for him, I’ll handle this!"
Surprisingly, the golden-tailed woman dashed forward, placing herself in front of him.
Seeing this, the man quickly stopped.
"I’ve never seen anyone from the Radiance Society skilled in sound wave techniques, be careful, Miss."
"Just a mere human sword intent level...." Miss Wei sneered, suddenly holding a black spear that ignited with a faint black flame at its tip.
She swirled her spear, producing a flurry of spear flowers, and was about to advance.
Shick!!
Suddenly, a red streak flashed, striking her fiercely, emitting a series of sharp, urgent clashing sounds.
Clang, clang, clang, clang!!
Amid the consecutive clashes, Miss Wei’s face drastically changed, her spear moving left and right to block; she held on for a moment but eventually couldn’t keep up with the speed of her opponent.
Bang!
Caught off guard, a red shadow flashed by, and she took a fierce sword strike to the chest, blasting backward like a cannonball and smashing into the mountain wall behind her.
Debris of rocks and dirt slid down from the mountain wall, and she was completely embedded in it, out of sight.
Lin Xin still stood in his original spot, extending his hand as the red streak flew back into it; it was merely the Red Flower Sword acting on its own that had swiftly defeated Miss Wei, who had seemed so indomitable just moments earlier.
The chubby man’s face trembled violently, but he managed to remain somewhat composed.
"Never heard of such a figure in the Radiance Society; are you sure you want to get involved in this dispute between the Radiance Society and the Red Clothes Cult?"
"If I am a member of the Radiance Society, as a part of it, how can I not make a contribution?" Lin Xin said casually, advancing toward the chubby man with his sword in hand.
Whooosh...
On the other side of the mountain wall, the spot where Miss Wei was buried stirred, and the rocks there were pushed open from within.
Lin Xin casually flicked his wrist, sending the red streak flying fiercely into the pile of rocks.
Bang!!
The rocks turned into fine sand, mixed with a large amount of fresh blood and fragments of clothing.
The chubby man in red twitched.
Never had they seen such a figure in the Radiance Society, with such incredible speed, reaching a level where reaction was impossible. Miss Wei Longpo couldn’t even utilize half of her actual strength before she was swiftly defeated and then mercilessly killed without the slightest chance to fight back. Moreover, his ruthlessness and ferocity exceeded even that of a Demonic Cultivator.
He had already sensed that Wei Longpo’s breath was rapidly fading and extinguishing, indicating that her vitality was running out.
However, what was even more worrying now was himself, as the fierce figure before him, whose origins were unknown, was staring intently at him.
"Sir, do you realize the great trouble you’ve just caused!"
Sweat slowly trickled down from his temples, his eyes unblinking, his expression grave.
"Great trouble?" Lin Xin laughed. "What kind of trouble? Tell me about it."
By now, he had approached the fat man in red, and the remaining alive members in red outfits had surrounded them, but no one dared to make the first move. The few exchanges a moment ago had made it clear to everyone present that this man was not to be taken lightly.
"At least a ministerial-level master!" The fat man in red cursed inwardly. It was clear that there were no other ministerial-level masters here, and now one had appeared out of nowhere.
"The person you killed, Wei Longpo, is a descendant of the Shape-shifting Cave’s Golden Yillion bloodline! Her death here will definitely attract the pursuit from the main vein of the Shape-shifting Cave! Of course, with your cultivation, you might not be afraid of the Shape-shifting Cave’s pursuit, but you have friends, family, disciples... in case they are targeted..."
As he listened to the voice, Lin Xin suddenly felt a very strange sensation.
At some point, the other’s voice had changed, becoming bizarrely strange.
It was as if the tone was suddenly twisted and warped, becoming blurrier as it reached his ears, seeming lengthy and sharp.
He frowned and looked around.
For some reason, all the scenery around him had become blurred and chaotic, like the mingling of seven colors of dye, streaming into each other.
All the surrounding sounds became indistinct, and he could hear nothing clearly.
A sense of inexplicable irritation began to emerge from the bottom of his heart.
Hiss!
As if something red was stabbing at him from the right, he reflexively raised his hand.
Shh!
A faint, cloth-tearing sound.
Streams of warm current poured into his body, the energy of devouring the opponent’s flesh and essence. The power feedback from the Ghost Mansion was slightly slower and cooler, yet it did not stir his blood as powerfully as this force.
The chaotic haze before him seemed to clear slightly as he raised his sword.
A sense of faint, relieving coolness rose in Lin Xin’s heart, as if it could alleviate the burning sensation inside him.
Soon, he began greedily swinging his blade again and again, each swing bringing a distinct sense of comfort.
Streams of comfort flowed into him, converging into a stream that almost made him want to close his eyes.
Raise hand, strike, raise hand, pivot.
Sword marks constantly appeared in the air and then vanished.
********************
Inside Huagu Valley.
Sweat streamed down the fat man in red’s spine like a creek, trickling to his trouser legs and wetting the ground.
He crouched motionless on the spot, his pupils almost dilating.
Just a moment ago he was still speaking, and before he finished, he saw the man before him suddenly with dilated pupils, void of any spark, but with a slight curl at the corners of his mouth, mysteriously odd.
He seemed to have seen such a smile before, instantly ducking reflexively and hugging his head.
Boom!
Right after he took cover, he heard a round of screams from his men nearby, all of them as defenseless as lambs waiting to be slaughtered.
He tried to contain his aura as much as possible and sneaked a peek around, only to be chilled by the sight.
All the people around him were split into countless chunks in that instant, each piece neatly cut, collapsing to the ground with a splash, many even having their weapons cut into equally sized pieces.
He was fortunate to have dodged that round of random slashing.
Perhaps because he was too close, in a blind spot, or because of his contained aura, or some other reason, he ultimately dodged that strange attack.
He squatted there, not daring to move, as the man in front of him had just been asking questions when he suddenly became vacant and drew his sword.
The fat man seemed to recall seeing such individuals before; one second they were gentle as jade, kind to everyone, and the next they would suddenly turn hostile, attacking without any warning.
For a moment, he couldn’t help but moan inwardly. What had been an easy pursuit task had suddenly turned into a terrifying ordeal.
Now, hearing the deaths of his men around him, he could only pray in his heart that this madman, having vented his killings, would quickly leave the area.
Thump!
Suddenly, a crushing sound came from a distant mountain wall.
It seemed someone had broken through from within the wall.
"All the people from the Red Clothes Cult are dead! What happened!?"
Someone from the Radiance Society shouted in confusion.
The fat man felt a rush of wind passing by and knew that the person had left. He quickly looked up in that direction and indeed saw a red line crossing several hundred meters in just a few blinks, appearing in front of those people.
"Good opportunity!"
He thought to himself, slowly regaining his cultivation and quietly moving in the opposite direction.
"While he’s merging with the people from the Radiance Society, I’ll immediately return to headquarters and report. Damn it, a ministerial-level master appears among the rival members and no one informed us? Are the people in the intelligence department all raised on shit?" The cliff of the exit was in sight; he felt a slight relief in his heart as there was still no sign of being followed. Having lived through decades and seen much life and death, he wasn’t scared of cruel opponents; after all, he still hadn’t used his last resort escape technique. However, the uneasy feeling was ultimately uncomfortable.
Just as he was about to jump down from the cliff, a scream suddenly came from behind. He turned around puzzledly. (To be continued.
