Chapter 209: Chapter 202: Chaos - Part 2
"I’m coming!"
Another Qi Cultivator sprang forward, his face stern.
"I’ve long heard that the strength of the Myriad Poisons Body is extraordinarily formidable, today is indeed a good opportunity to experience it."
"Please enlighten me," Dongyue’s expression remained unchanged as if he didn’t care about the injury on his palm at all.
"Please!"
The moment the person finished speaking, his sword blade thrust out suddenly.
Sword Light flickered, and Sword Shadows were dense; in an instant, it seemed as if more than ten Silver Swords had appeared.
This person was actually an expert who had already comprehended the Pine Forest Sword Intent. The moment he made his move, it was Sword Intent along the blade. The Pine Forest Sword Intent’s most powerful aspect was the Sword Shadow Dividing Light, where each sword was not a Void Shadow but a solid entity, able to split into more than ten sword blades of the same power in an instant. This was the terrifying aspect of the Sword Intent, capable of instantly enhancing the attack by more than ten times.
The layered Sword Light, like a feather fan, swept toward Dongyue from both sides.
"Blood Transformation!" Dongyue’s expression did not change. The black Spiritual Energy around his body slowly started to boil, and with a hiss, all his Spiritual Energy concentrated on his arm, grasping toward the Sword Light.
"If it weren’t for this giant tree’s power protecting the nest, we would have captured the Insect Master long ago, how could we allow this young whelp to obstruct us." In the far distance in the air, a Foundation Establishment Cultivator frowned and said.
"No rush, no rush..." Hua Yunu’s expression was calm as she simply waited quietly.
"The only exit of that Formation has been blocked by that Dongyue. If we don’t deal with him, it’s impossible to break the formation. Moreover, there is another Insect Master lying in wait in the shadows, let’s take our time and play it safe," Dugu Lin, for once agreeing with common sense, said.
Su Wan just looked at her with a smile that was not quite a smile, without speaking.
Dugu Lin felt somewhat anxious inside. She had already sent people to inform the disciples at the Manor to relay the message to Lin Xin, but no one had been seen so far. Wasn’t this Dongyue a friend of Lin Xin? She didn’t care about any Sect interests, as sentiments like gratitude and loyalty were the most important to her. The Sect raised Sun Spring to be self-important and didn’t care about the life and death of its disciples, and it wasn’t just for a day or two.
One by one, Qi Cultivators stepped forward to engage in one-on-one combat with Dongyue. The sounds of their weapons clashing were incessant.
It seemed they had a firm grip on victory. Foundation Establishment Stage Cultivators wouldn’t stoop to bullying someone who hadn’t reached Qi Cultivation just because he had the Myriad Poisons Body. So, for a time, such a stalemate formed.
Thus, it was mostly Qi Cultivators appointed as Suppressors who went out to face Dongyue. It was also a way to probe Dongyue’s trump cards, or perhaps it was to see if that Insect Master, who could bind Hua Yunu’s Magic Sword, had any other trump cards up his sleeve.
It’s known that there were two Insect Masters here; Insect Masters must certainly be in contact with each other, so Foundation Establishment Cultivators were unwilling to take the stage lightly. Practitioners with years of Cultivation and at the Foundation Establishment Level were always cautious, almost nobody would act rashly.
"If we can just wear down the other side like this, it wouldn’t be too bad," a female Foundation Establishment Cultivator said.
"That female Insect Master was wounded by my sword. If she doesn’t get treatment, she won’t last long. We just need to wait," Hua Yunu said indifferently.
******************
"What is the situation now?" Lin Xin looked at the disciple who had come to report in front of him.
"The messenger said that Dongyue is currently protecting the Insect Master, making his last stand guarding a grand Formation," the disciple from the Manor reported softly.
"What does Lady Lin plan for you to do?"
Lin Xin’s expression remained calm.
This was a problem for Dongyue and the others; after he left, they should have immediately left the place. If they were caught up to, it was their own fault for not being careful enough.
He was just an outsider, not intending to help save anyone. The matter was too complicated; those involved with the Insect Master had a hard time extricating themselves.
"Does the Villa Master have a reply?" the disciple asked quietly.
"No need," Lin Xin said after a moment of silence. The instant he made a move, if he was discovered, even the Manor might become involved.
He turned and went back to his room to quietly meditate and heal.
Time slowly passed by, and without notice, it was noon.
Another disciple from the Manor came over.
"Villa Master..." the person looked inside through the open door and saw him with eyes closed in meditation, hesitating slightly.
"How are things now?" Lin Xin asked without needing to ask, already knowing that it must be a new update from the other side.
"They say... they say he has been holding out for several hours..." the disciple said softly.
"Several hours..."
Lin Xin repeated.
"Yes, go rest," he replied, still without indicating his stance.
The disciple hesitated for a moment but still left.
Lin Xin sat alone in the room, without any sign of movement.
********************
Blood, little by little, dripped from Dongyue’s body, crashing to the ground, and splashing up a bit of corrosive Poisonous Smoke. The black Poisonous Smoke mingled with the much thinner black Spiritual Energy around his body and was indistinguishable from it.
He was gasping heavily, his eyes smeared with blood and barely able to open. Hair clung tightly to his forehead, nearly blinding him.
There were wounds all over his body, some deep, some shallow; some had already scabbed, but others were fresh and still oozing blood tinted with blue.
"Yue’er..." Jing’er struggled to emit a weak breath behind him. She was unable to move; a golden small sword was brightly stabbed into her chest, where the gold light and trickling black blood mixed, fiercely resisting and entangling.
With a wave of his hand, Dongyue scattered Poisoned Blood, holding a gigantic sword in one hand, he faced the Qi Cultivators. His Swordsmanship was not very effective against them and was mostly used for Defense. Only his body’s Poisoned Blood could threaten them, and ironically, what he could rely on was the sickening physical condition that had tormented him since he was young.
This extreme contrast made him feel a bitter sense of irony in this moment.
"Next,"
His voice resonated alone among the cultivators.
Hua Yunu’s expression remained unchanged, but her gaze slowly settled into a still calm.
Dugu Lin’s eyes revealed a trace of respect, no longer as casual as at the beginning.
Su Wan’s eyes flickered, her emotions unclear, yet uncommonly she was not as relaxed as before.
The rest of the crowd surrounded them, with various degrees of emotion in their eyes.
"How many has it been?" someone quietly asked.
"Twenty-five or thirty?"
"Thirty-one."
"Though it’s all for a Beast Master, such persistence is still admirable," a Qi Cultivator murmured softly.
"Pity... if only his love wasn’t for a Beast Master, the outcome could have been countless times better," a female cultivator sighed quietly.
"Perhaps..."
One after another, cultivators stepped forward to exchange blows with Dongyue, each stepping down with minor injuries, knowing that Dongyue’s blood would eventually run dry. No one stopped this seemingly effortless behavior.
As the matter of the Beast Master had been decided, pity filled everyone’s eyes.
Two more hours passed, and the sky tilted towards the afternoon.
When Dongyue faced off against an Innate expert, he suddenly knelt on one knee, nearly failing to rise again with a thump. His blood was almost drained, his vision blurry, his face devoid of any color, and he looked utterly haggard. Behind him, Jing’er wept with swollen eyes, her lips quivering, trying to speak, but barely a sound could be made.
"That’s enough," Dugu Lin could hardly bear to watch. If it were someone else it might be different, but this man was a fellow sect member and on good terms with Lin Xin. She found it quite unbearable.
Hua Yunu, however, remained unchanged in expression. The next cultivator ready to take a turn also looked back at him.
All eyes in the forest were focused on him, awaiting his decision.
There was silence for a long while.
Hua Yunu slowly began to speak.
"Dongyue."
His voice wasn’t concealed and directly reached everyone, all could hear it clearly.
Dongyue slightly raised his head, as if he faintly heard someone calling him.
"Back then, your parents, the Kong Yue Immortal Couple, were heroic figures—intrepid, paired in Cultivation Practice, formidable at expelling demons and slaying fiends, abhors evil as enemies. Recalling the guidance I once received from your father, should you step aside today, I can personally plead for mercy on your behalf to the Sect Leader, offering you a chance for redemption," his voice carried across and everyone present could hear it clear and distinct.
"Redemption...?" Dongyue laughed nervously. "My parents... made many sacrifices for the sect, and in the end... died at Shadow Sword Gorge, their bodies never recovered... And then I... from a young age, was turned into the Myriad Poisons Body, forbidden to cultivate, with a finite life... You ask me to redeem myself? Hahahaha!!" Not mentioning his parents would have been fine, but once Hua Yunu did, it only fueled the grief and indignation in his heart.
"It seems you are unwilling," Hua Yunu shook his head in regret. "It appears you are a person of deep feelings." He waved his hand, and the second round of cultivators continued to step forward, drawing swords and standing before Dongyue.
*******************
"Villa Master..."
Lin Xin was sitting cross-legged inside a wooden hut, listening to the disciple who had just run in to report.
"Over there, it’s nearing the end..." The disciple also knew of the relationship between Dongyue and Lin Xin, and was unsure how to phrase what needed to be said.
"Master." Lin Luo also approached the door, frowning at him. "Dongyue is not going to make it. I plan to go see."
"Brother Hua has ordered that we are not to leave the camp on our own," Lin Xin said indifferently. "Everyone has their own choices, and so does Dongyue. If this is the outcome he has chosen, then that is his persistence."
"But..."
"If we go, what can we do?" Lin Xin questioned.
Indeed. What could they do if they went?
Lin Luo also fell silent.
"So, let it be up to fate," Lin Xin stated coolly.
"...." Lin Luo didn’t know what to say for a moment. Up to fate? In this situation, didn’t that mean letting Dongyue face death alone?
Even though he didn’t have much to do with Dongyue, he was still an acquaintance, and it seemed he was also the master’s good friend.
"I’m going to practice my swordsmanship." Lin Luo decided not to think further and left.
The reporting disciple followed suit and left as well.
Lin Xin sat alone in the hut, his heart bearing an indescribable taste.
The relationship between him and Dongyue hadn’t reached a point where he would save him at all costs, but with the Beast Master like this, ultimately it was he who had instigated it, causing the Beast Master to be seriously injured. Additionally, the way the Beast Master insisted Dongyue escape before dying, that glimpse in time still lingered in his mind.
The appearance of the Beast Master at that moment vaguely overlapped with that of An Ying.
Sitting in the hut, Lin Xin suddenly let out a long sigh.
At that moment, a streak of red light silently and swiftly made its way inside, ’tsk’ing softly as it burrowed into his Red Flower Sword at his waist. (To be continued.
