Chapter 2823: Drained
Chapter 2823: Drained
Once Death began attacking, she didn’t stop. One attack after another, her sword slashes flew in each direction, killing the beasts that were there.
With each sword slash, Death used a bit of her Divine energy to empower her Sword Qi and Sword Aura, which was the main cause of Death’s Divine Sea draining.
The beasts didn’t react to her attacks at the start, but once they began dying one after another, the other beasts rushed to consume the free Sunhearts. When those died, the amount of free Sunhearts increased by a lot more.
That caused more to pile over. Soon, the mountain of beasts began fighting among themselves to get to those Sunhearts, the masses slowly growing taller and taller until they collapsed next to Death.
When they did, many started coming after Death.
At that point, Death had to start using her Sword Domain and Sword Heart just to keep up with the attacks.
While Death was in the middle of the intense battle, Alex slipped into the swarm of beasts and began gathering Sunhearts and beast cores.
Their beast cores were pathetic in comparison to their physical strength, but their Sunhearts were beyond incredible. They were massive, the size of a chicken egg, swallowing all heat from the surroundings.
They were big enough that Alex had to force the seal to open larger than he normally opened it in order to fit them through to send to Pearl in his Soul Space.
He didn’t get all the Sunhearts, but he got most of them.
When he got enough, he sat down and began absorbing more blood aura. He wasn’t going to let it all go to waste. With so much chaos, he believed Whisker would be safe, so he called out Whisker.
He let the mouse know what was happening and told him to stay to the sidelines.
"She will kill you the moment she notices you. Gather all the Sunhearts, beast cores, and these beasts’ bodies. If you are wounded, immediately return."
Whisker nodded and left.
Alex began absorbing the blood aura as much as he could. At this point, he had no metrics to compare the energy of what his blood aura had reached beyond the fact that it was in the Divine realm.
It could very well enter the Divine Creation 2nd realm soon and he would have no idea. He simply absorbed it away without thought.
Every few hours, he stopped and went to check on Death to see how her mental state was. He entered her Divine Sea when he could and checked inside.
The sea within it was draining at a steady pace. At this rate, Alex would be able to see what was at the base of the sea anytime soon.
Alex absorbed blood aura when he could and collected Sunhearts with Whisker’s help when he could.
Whisker fully stuck to Alex’s advice at first, and stayed away from where Death was attacking, only sneaking through to gather the Sunhearts before escaping.
However, that changed soon. As Death killed more and more beasts, the atmosphere within the region changed from one where only Death killed them all to one where they began fighting each other.
It became a free-for-all with everyone an enemy of everyone else. The beasts fought each other, even away from where Death was, so Whisker didn’t even have to be around Death.
He went away, gathering Sunhearts and beast cores while the other beasts couldn’t sense him in any way. He also gathered a lot of blood that spilled from the other beasts which Alex couldn’t get to.
Alex tried to fight one of those beasts too when he could, just to test out how strong they were.
To his surprise, they were way above what he could do. Neither his blood nor his body was strong enough to kill those beasts.
He could maybe attack them over and over again for a long time to kill them, but that would not be as satisfying as what Death was doing, killing them every few attacks.
The massacre continued for much longer than Alex had expected it to. While Death’s Divine Sea drained during the battle, he hadn’t realized just how quickly it refilled either.
So, it took a few days more than he had been expecting. Still, not so much that he wasn’t ready for it.
Alex stood by Death’s side now, letting Whisker handle the rest and waited moment by moment for when it would fully drain. He didn’t want her unconscious, so he would have to take her away at the last moment.
The beasts died one after another, the sword slashes continuing to hit them from afar. Death’s feet were littered with corpses, her body covered in blood, and yet not a single one of them had managed to hit her at all.
Despite the overwhelming number, Death had remained untouched.
Alex counted down the attacks, thinking how much more she could do. Death had no understanding of her own situation, so she kept sending out slices with all of her might.
Alex waited and waited and waited.
And then, it was time.
Immediately, he grabbed her and flew off into the sky. At the same time, he employed his Dao of Time Stagnation to slow her down completely.
Even as he dragged her away, Death continued attacking the beasts, but her swings were slower now. It was only after she was far enough away that she finally stopped.
Alex landed on top of the massive dune, looking down at the mountain of beasts and their corpses. He gave it no more than a glance though, as his primary objective was right in front of him.
As soon as Death put her arm down, no longer attacking anyone or anything, Alex immediately used his Spiritual Sense to enter her Divine Sea.
He appeared inside, with the overcast sky above him. Below him, however, was no longer the usual murky water that was her Divine energy.
The sea was all but completely drained.
