Chapter 2818: A Moonless Night

Alex lost count of how many beasts had died in order for his Blood Aura to nearly reach Immortal Spirit 9th realm. During this time, he had also gathered hundreds of Sunhearts and beast cores, all of which he sent into his Soul Space when he had the chance.

When it was all finally over, he stood up from where he sat in the sand, drowned over many beasts.

He looked around and found Death, standing to the side, doing nothing except holding onto her sword, ready to fight anyone else that came her way.

Alex grew a little apprehensive, wondering if anything had changed in the past few days that she had been here. He prepared for an attack to come his way, so when it didn’t come, he was relieved to learn that Death hadn’t changed at all.

He walked up to her next to see if his plan had worked at all. Had the incredibly strong beasts that she had fought for all this time truly drained her of anything?

He placed his palm around her face and closed his eyes to force his way into her Divine Sea.

When Alex arrived inside Death’s Divine Sea, he was surprised to see actual change. The sky was still mostly overcast and the sea itself was wide like the size of an ocean, but the water in the ocean was definitely much lower from where he usually arrived.

It was difficult to tell just how deep the quantity of her Divine energy was, but he had no doubt found somewhat of a success in what he had wanted.

Still, he had hoped to be able to do something immediately, so there was some disappointment. The amount of beasts here just wasn’t enough for what he wanted.

“Was I late?” Alex wondered. Death had rested for some time, so it was possible that her Divine energy had regenerated in the time he had spent absorbing the Blood Aura.

“I should have come earlier,” he thought with a regretful look on his face. Still, whatever he had managed to do had to have been good enough.

He looked down at the water and wondered if the lower amount meant lower energy too. It was unlikely that was the case, but testing wouldn’t hurt.

Alex’s soul died once again and he came back alive outside, opening his eyes as he got back up and stared at the still-standing Death. Her dull eyes still stared at nothing, but there had to be some level of intelligence behind those eyes.

There had to be a reason why she chose to not kill him, whether it was because she recognized him or some other reason.

So long as there was intelligence, there was a chance that he could help her.

‘I need to find more beasts,’ Alex thought. He looked around at the massive pile of corpses and smiled awkwardly. He would have to go elsewhere to find more beasts.

There were likely no beasts around this place for miles.

Alex took Death’s empty hand and pulled her again, taking her away from the location, moving deeper into the core.

Night fell not long after and the desert grew silent. In the core region, it seemed there were no beasts without Sunhearts. Beasts without Sunhearts were far too weak to make it this far.

And more than likely, they couldn’t survive the Yang that filled this area. Even in the middle of the night, it felt as though one was walking beneath the sun in the middle of the day.

The sky was as dark as always, with not a sign of stars or moon up there. That still confused him sometimes.

If Hell, or as it was otherwise called the Immortal Prison realm, was just one of the many realms of the other world, then how come he couldn’t see the moon?

As far as he could tell, the moon was visible from every world. Hell was the only place one couldn’t see it from.

He could understand stars not being visible, as the spatial anomaly might scatter their light around far too much for them to be visible in the end. But the moon should be bright enough.

If nothing, he should at least see the sky shimmer at night.

But there was nothing.

And yet, there was still light in the night, and Alex had no idea how that was happening.

‘Maybe the old man knew,’ Alex thought. ‘I should’ve asked him when I had the chance.’

They hurried from village to village in the day and rested in those villages at night, so he didn’t have an opportunity to have the question come up.

The two walked in the dark for a long time, crossing miles and miles throughout the night as they continued without stop. They crossed dunes after dunes of sand, and yet there was so much more to go.

There wasn’t much hard-packed dirt ground in the core region. If there was, Alex hadn’t seen it yet.

As the light on the horizon lit up, he wondered if he had entered the region of a beast yet or not. Throughout the night, the beasts with Sunhearts would go underground to gather Elixir.

So, they were currently absent, and thus the night in the core region was extremely peaceful.

However, now that the sun was rising up, the beasts were likely going to come right back up, and with Death right by his side, a battle was going to start that he wished would be enough for what he needed to do.

When the first ray of sun came from the eastern borders of Hell, the beasts surfaced from deep underneath.

They didn’t wait much longer afterward to attack Alex and Death.

However, the moment they came out, Death’s sword sliced through each one in a single swing. When they fell one after another, the rest of the beasts in the area began gathering around, coming for the Sunhearts they would receive.

As the beast massacre began, Alex got ready to absorb more Blood Aura as well. This time, he was surely going to reach Immortal Spirit 9th realm with his Blood Aura.
