Chapter 148: Chapter 9. A Chance to start all over again

Selina de Loon made it clear to her almost ex-husband that the continuation of any relationship between them is simply impossible. The woman was determined to sever all ties with Jeremy, and this would finally happen after the official divorce procedure was completed. This was supposed to happen in less than a month.

But... Despite such a categorical decision by the Duchess, Jeremy Seibel still did not give up hope to get a chance to start everything from the beginning between them.

For this, he even forgot about his own fear, which he had once harbored towards his wife, and continued to persistently pursue her. Even Jeremy himself did not expect himself to be capable of such a thing. And yet...

The guilt, along with another disturbing feeling that was bothering him, simply didn’t give him a chance to step back. The guy was determined to redeem himself and convince the Duchess to change her mind before the end of this month.

And for this, the baron’s youngest son really made every possible effort.

«Your Grace, have you finished your work for today? How about we have dinner together?»

Jeremy was waiting for the northern Duchess outside her office and attacked her with his proposal as soon as the woman left it. However, looking at the red-haired youth in front of her, the woman only frowned harder.

«Why are you still here? Didn’t I tell you to get out of here?» she asked sharply.

Nevertheless, Jeremy had already prepared a response to this remark.

«We’re not officially divorced yet, are we? That means it’s my house too. Don’t I have the right to be here?»

Hearing his pompous speech, Selina only smiled coldly.

«Don’t be ridiculous. Just because you’re still legally my husband doesn’t mean that it gives you the right...»

However, before the woman could continue her angry speech, Jeremy interrupted her in mid-sentence to return to his original topic:

«So how about dinner? Do you mind?»

Despite the fact that Selina de Loon ignored him that time and did not respond to his offer of dinner, Jeremy still continued to pursue her. It could go on for days.

«Your Grace, are you going for a walk now? May I accompany you?»

«This is a work trip that has nothing to do with you,» Selina retorted sharply.

«Why not? I promise I won’t bother you in any way. Just let me accompany you as your husband...»

This arrogant man continued to annoy her with his attention, and, to be honest, this was the first time a woman had to deal with such a situation. Definitely, no one had ever dared to act so boldly towards her.

In the end, Selina de Loon did not have time to track the moment when her eye began to twitch involuntarily from irritation.

«Your Grace, even if you have a lot of work, you still shouldn’t overexert yourself and forget about rest. Would you like me to make my own soothing tea for you?»

— ......

— The weather is quite windy today. If you are going to go outside, you should dress warmly so that you don’t accidentally catch a cold. Can I get you another coat?

«Your Grace, maybe when you get bored, I can join you and we can play board games together.»

In the end, the duchess was so tired of the obsessive presence of her ex-husband next to her that now she didn’t even know where to go from him. For some reason, the thought of simply expelling him from her castle hadn’t even crossed her mind. Thus, she really got into a rather difficult situation.

In the end, the woman was only able to find solitude for a while in the library of the ice castle, where, as she thought, this guy would not think of following her. But, as a result, the storm called «Jeremy Seibel» overtook her there.

— Your Grace, have you come to read books? — this guy who happened to be here right there, squeezed between the bookshelves to her, — What a coincidence, me too! Maybe I can keep you company?

Selina de Loon closed her eyelids, because at that moment she had a headache.

«I came here to be alone,» she said coolly.

— But I’m really not going to bother you! — Jeremy tried to object, — I’m just going to stay quietly next to you...

The Duchess took a deep breath, trying to calm her irritation.

«I want to be alone. What exactly did you find incomprehensible in my words?»

At the woman’s harsh tone at that moment, the baron’s youngest son involuntarily covered his mouth.

— OK... I understand you,» I finally had to tell him.

But despite the fact that Jeremy stopped bothering her with his presence, he also did not leave the library, continuing to silently hang around somewhere nearby.

However, since the long-awaited silence had now arrived, the Duchess was pleased with that too.

Soon, when Selina had selected the necessary books, she was going to spend time with them in a private setting. To do this, the woman did not go to the reading room, as might have been expected, but to some other place that at first glance could not be found here.

This small room with a single reading area was hidden behind a large canvas painting, and it was possible to enter there if certain manipulations were performed before that. Jeremy, who had been watching the Duchess’s actions unnoticed all this time, eventually revealed his presence when he involuntarily let out a surprised sigh.

«I didn’t know there was such a place here!»

«Of course,» Selina smiled coldly, «How would you know that?»

— But...» Jeremy stammered involuntarily, «What is this room for in the library?

He cautiously walked closer, scanning the previously unknown space in front of him. No matter how he looked at it, he really couldn’t even imagine why such a place could be hidden in the library of the ice castle.

However, Selina de Loon paused for a moment before giving an answer.

«This is a secret room that my father ordered to be built for my mother during his lifetime,» she finally said softly.

«The secret room...?» the guy asked in surprise.

Even though the curiosity and bewilderment in his tone were obvious, Jeremy still didn’t dare to ask the questions directly. After all, it was about her family’s personal affairs, which Selina had never talked about before.

However, at that moment, the woman seemed to read his thoughts on his expression and chuckled softly.

«It’s okay, there’s nothing wrong with that. I can tell you about it.»

«Really...?» the guy asked.

«After all, you don’t know anything about my family, right?»

Jeremy remained silent, while Selina continued unperturbed:

«Since you’re here today, I’ll tell you. This is a story about my mother.»

At this moment, the extraordinary gaze of the bluish violet eyes of the woman involuntarily made the baron’s youngest son shudder.
