Entwined With the Villainous Guardian

Chapter 89: Continuing Story

Leander couldn’t take his eyes off his screen even after Steve returned his phone.

So... she could smile this purely...with Lionel.

"Orchid Gardens," Leander said and Steve got stiff out of nervousness. He saw how casually she was chatting with Lionel Waldorf at the party. He didn’t think that Leander would take it all lightly considering how much he does for her.

He almost started a war with his family when he killed Peter’s aide Paul. For some reason, the don is not taking any action against Leander. It only makes him believe that indeed Evander might have gone infertile. But he cannot be open with his speculation. He can investigate secretly though. He didn’t know if he could keep it from Leander, but he needed to find the truth.

As far as the lady goes, no one likes to see their wife being chummy with another man. She should be careful with Lionel.

However, Steve didn’t think that Leander would actually hurt the lady. She’s far more important to him. Probably more than his pride and jealousy. Steve has never seen his Capo wrapped around the little finger of a man. Every man has that phase once or twice in his life. He wondered how much more Leander will change for her.

Turning his phone off, Leander leaned back on the seat and closed his eyes. His investigation of the missing money can wait. He needs to get home ASAP to see if his mouse had turned into a rat. He regretted removing the cameras in the bedroom a little; only a little.

No one else had access to the camera in his room other than himself. But everything changed between them after getting married. He didn’t want to leave anything to chance. Having a camera there leaves a chance for someone else to access those files. He would never want that.

How could he let others see how cute his wife is when she’s with him?

His lips curved recalling how she acted with him in the morning. He was holding back for the past few days because she was in so much pain, but that little mouse knows how to push his buttons.

My cute mouse!

He had a bitter feeling brewing in his heart imagining her sitting on their bed, and laughing at Lionel’s stupid jokes. He will have to teach her a lesson if she let Lionel inside their room.

It’s their room! No one else can be allowed in. Period.

He had a feeling that the mouse would know that. She’s dumb but not that dumb. She probably will surprise him.

He was not that worried for his wife, but he was scared of Lionel.

He knew Lionel better than he knows his wife. Lionel knows more about women and as far as he knows, Lionel’s family history is different from his. Lionel or his family didn’t hurt her family. So, there is that important issue. She does not hate Lionel as she hates him.

He knew that she is not someone who would just keel over for a man she barely knows. She’s stayed away from men for her entire adult life. He had to almost force her to be with him. And Lionel is not someone who takes revenge by taking his friend’s wife.

Yeah, nothing bad will happen now or in the future.

Viviana’s brain almost stopped functioning as she didn’t know what to do. She shouted for Katerina but she did not answer.

"I think she went out for grocery shopping..." Lionel said looking behind.

Some other staff in uniform climbed up the stairs. Viviana didn’t know why, but she stood at the edge of the stairs with her head bowed. But Viviana didn’t help but notice the twinkle in her icy-blue eyes. Her eyes made her appear almost like a cat. And she even walked like a cat.

Guess, Kastello has a preference!

"Can we have a couple of chairs to sit, please? Can you get someone to..." Viviana raised her brows with a smile.

"Yes, Signora," the maid bowed her head and took a step back.

Viviana’s heart skipped a beat wondering if she would fall down the stairs. She was already standing at the edge of the stairs and if she takes a step back without looking...

But nothing she feared happened. The maid carefully stepped down the stairs backward without showing Viviana her back making Viviana wonder if she is royalty in this house.

In a few minutes, they brought them chairs. Viviana didn’t explain much but asked Lionel’s chair to be placed out on the corridor while she sat by the door, inside the room. She could see that Lionel had a lot of questions, but maybe he wanted to be polite, he didn’t ask her anything. He didn’t seem offended by it either, so she was relieved.

"Where did we leave last time?" Viviana came straight to the point.

She does not have a lot of time left. She needs to pass on her memories.

Lionel didn’t wish for small talk either. He already started on the rough draft for his next movie script. He even wondered if he could make it a drama with eight or ten episodes depending on how he writes it. He still hasn’t made the final decision.

But he was happy with the characterization of the female lead. He wanted to know how the male lead is going to get introduced.

"You were trapped in the tree with the nasty kids shaking it..." Lionel reminded her.

"Yes," Viviana took in a deep breath. Seeing Viviana getting ready to continue, Lionel sat crossing his legs.

"Our little Darcia was afraid of heights. If she was not chased by a cat, she wouldn’t have gotten over the tree. She tried to scream but she couldn’t even scream louder as her voice broke. And a weird thought popped into the mind of the little girl... What if I stop struggling? What if I let go of the branch? Will I die? Will everything end?"

Lionel pressed his lips. Of course, the little girl wouldn’t have known that falling from that height wouldn’t kill her. But how much suffering did she go through for thinking that she needed to die for it to end?

He has that type of thought too. He doesn’t have the urge to jump down. But he had his moments when he wants to end everything—to stop struggling and be at peace. As long as one lives, pain and suffering are mandated. Only in death, there is peace.

Her story was depressing and it made him feel depressed too. But like a drug, he was addicted to it. He didn’t want to stop hearing.

"She almost did," Viviana leaned forward with a smile.

Lionel tilted his head. She is smiling when she is speaking about such a depressing incident. So, something good is coming.

"But..." she raised her brows and Lionel let out the breath he was holding.

"She heard everyone screaming. And the sound of... how to put it... the sound of rock hitting the skull?" Viviana smirked. "She opened her eyes and she saw a girl...about eleven years old... picking up the small rocks and pelting it on the bullies without thinking twice. She was alone, there were no adults near her or anywhere in sight. She didn’t care that she had no backup and went against those bunch of bullies... like a..."

Viviana smiled and savored that moment of her life once again. "A guardian angel..." she said. That’s what she thought at that time. Leona was the guardian angel who was assigned to her from the heaven.

Lionel didn’t want to disturb her. He was disappointed to hear that it was another girl. How can he turn the relationship between two girls into a relatable love story?

Eh, I can genderbend!

But a guardian angel... that’s interesting and new. It was novel and yet familiar for him at the same time.

Where did I hear about angels and guardians?

Viviana continued, "She saw bright blue light as if it was Saint Michael the Archangel who descended from the heaven to be her guardian. But her bright "guardian angel" poured cold water over her warm and fuzzy dreams immediately. "Aren’t you getting down, stupid girl?" she asked..." Viviana laughed.

Lionel smiled with her. Well, if that made her happy then, who is he to judge?

"Darcia did not like to be called stupid. Now, she was bullied for a long time, and she had enough resentment built up inside her. She didn’t know why she was mad at her "guardian angel", but she did not like to be called a stupid by her. So, she thanked her "guardian angel" by jumping right on her. Plop!"

Viviana laughed gesturing how she fell flat on Leona.

"Both of them ended up on the ground and Darcia’s fall was broken by poor Leona making~" she paused realizing that she told Leona’s actual name to Lionel.

"Leona?" Lionel smiled. "That’s a nice name..."

He was smiling, but Viviana’s heart skipped a beat seeing the change in his expression. His eyes were different and were not smiling.

Lionel did know that name. It’s not that an uncommon name and yet there is one person who was called by that name a very long time ago.
