Chapter 66: Do You Remember Me?
Chapter 66: Do You Remember Me?
Supporting on his elbows, Leander gazed into her eyes. Viviana tried to look away. His eyes did something to her that she cannot describe.
But Leander held her cheeks. Viviana had to look at him. His hold was gentle, and his eyes were gentler. Once again, in the silence of the night, she fell into the depth of his eyes.
He had very handsome features. She did think of him as Lucifer-level handsome. He is that handsome. And in the heart of a lifelong spinster like her, having a man that handsome above, in this intimate position, did cause a stir.
"What?" she asked as he was not doing anything for some time. Although she didn’t mind staring at his face for some more time.
"You are very pretty," he said with a smile.
"Am I?" A bright smile bloomed on Viviana’s face immediately before her brain could tell her heart to be indifferent.
Who doesn’t love to be called pretty by someone?
"You are..." he kissed her forehead.
Viviana didn’t know why that kiss spread warmth to her heart. It has been a long time since she was kissed this way by someone.
"What?" She giggled as he was still staring at her as a kid would stare at his favorite ice cream.
"Isn’t it hot?" he asked with a smirk. His eyes were on her chest wanting to get a closer look of her.
"No," Viviana’s voice was getting high as she pretended to not understand his intent.
She had already decided to pretend to not know what he means unless he says it openly. If he wants to make her naked, he should work for it. He cannot smile his way around or order her around.
Now where she got her courage from? Maybe his gentleness made her relaxed. And his soft facial features made him approachable and brought out her inner playful self.
"Really?" Leander shrugged. With a low grunt that vibrated in her ear, he got up.
Viviana curled her lips wondering if she had angered him. And his little grunt shook her to the core. How can a voice be so addictive?
But standing on his knees between her knees, he smirked at her.
"You are amazing, little mouse..." he said.
"What?" Viviana continued with her act. Only then she realized that he had positioned himself between her legs. She remembered having her knees together some time ago.
How did he manage to get in between?
"I’m hot," he said and started unbuttoning his shirt.
Viviana balked at the weird situation she currently is in. Why must he make everything complicated?
As the buttons were separated from the hole they were lodged in, so was revealed his chest. Viviana felt a tingling feeling in her hands as she remembered once touching that chest. It was hard as a steel plate.
Without blinking she watched as he threw his shirt on the floor. His broad shoulders, his strong pecks, those stairs on his abdomen, the glistening bronze skin...
She gulped.
She took a look at the tattoo. The angel one. With his wings spread, the angel was holding a sword... a flaming sword.
Wait...that’s not St. Michael! That’s...
She supported herself on her elbows to have a closer look at the angel. Leander said something to her, but she didn’t listen to him. The angel is having a flaming sword! The tattoo was based on the image in St. Michael’s Church in Brighton, England.
That was not St. Michael.
That was the angel, Jophiel!
She was sure because...
Whenever Leo played as St. Michael, she would be Jophiel.
When she was bullied badly in the past, the other kids called her "Lucy" short for Lucifer because of her "devilish" black eyes. But Leona named her after the angel associated with light—Jophiel. Leo told her that Jophiel was associated with beauty and wisdom, and other good things. The color yellow was associated with Jophiel.
That was the first time she was associated with light, and she was happy to be not associated with the devil.
Jophiel followed Michael to battles and they protected the innocents. That would be the premise of their plays. She loved to play princess and have tea parties, but Leo had different ideas for their playtime.
She loved Leo and Leo was her only friend. Also, Leo had a leadership quality and she just followed her being unable to refuse her.
If Leander has a tattoo of Jophiel, does Leander remember Melanie and Leo?
That day, when they met Leander Kastello during their playtime, she was not interested in letting a "boy" join the girls in their playtime. But Leo didn’t mind much. Leander was allowed to join them as the angel Metatron—the scribe. His duty was to record their valiance in battle against evil forces.
They almost spent an entire Sunday together. She still remembered Leander. Although he was snobby, once he was given the role, he played his part really well, following them around wearing all those jewelries.
She didn’t like it when Leo brought Leander to their secret cave. But as the youngest, she had to listen to Leo.
Come to think of it, she was very obedient to Leo. Not because she had no other friends, but because she loved her that much. She had almost imprinted on Leona and followed her around. Leona was a fierce protector. After she became friends with Leo, she never got bullied. That was a bonus.
And the day of the fire, when she was trapped under the building... Leander came there too. She still doesn’t know why Leander was there.
She was in shock after getting trapped under the rubble. She didn’t know what happened for the three hours she was trapped inside. She escaped the fire because she was trapped under the rubble.
But there was fire and the stench... the cries...
And that painful cry of Leona looking for her.
No one knows what exactly happened that day except for her. She was waiting in the school Principal’s office. Someone threw something and there was a bright light and a deafening sound. After that, she blanked out. When she woke up, she was trapped in the rubble. The principal died.
Leona had a fever that day and stayed home. She still doesn’t know why Leona came there at that time. She wanted to call for Leona. But she couldn’t.
Then there was a second explosion. That caused the fire. Part of the school building and the orphanage that was close to the school burned.
She was in and out of consciousness and through the hole in the rubble, she saw Leo catching fire. Her screams...
And then she heard Leander. He was shouting something too. But she had a feeling that he was shouting for Leo.
But when she woke up, Father Flannagan told her that Leander Kastello was hurt in the fire because he came looking for her.
She was confused at that time. She couldn’t understand why he would come for her.
But the tattoo...
"Do you remember me, Kastello?" she asked, still not out of her shock.
Did you really come looking for me?
