Chapter 378: The Cave
"Leona... Leona would know..."
Viviana muttered under her breath. After that, she went quiet.
Leander let out a sigh of exasperation. He was excited about the reveal. He expected her to blow her lid off but he didn’t know what she was thinking now.
Is she bargaining?
"Come with me," he held her hand. Without any protest, she walked with him. She lagged a lot of times and he had to call her name to bring her out of her reverie.
"Remove your shoes. We are going for a swim," Leander said.
Viviana blinked.
"We cannot go there. No one goes there. It’s deep. The tides are strong there because of the cliffs," Viviana stopped Leander. But then she remembered something, "You don’t swim. How are we going to..."
She didn’t finish her question seeing the smirk on his face. She didn’t know what to think of what he said earlier. He said things that only Leona would know. But then, what is he insinuating?
Leander said nothing and removed his shoes and clothes. Within the blink of an eye, he jumped into the water.
"Leo!" Viviana screamed as he disappeared into the water. She quickly removed her shoes and threw her purse on the ground.
Just as she was about to jump, his head popped up above the water. He squeezed out water from his mouth like a fountain, attempting to make her wet. Viviana jumped back coming out of her shock. Leander laughed seeing her reaction.
"The water’s nice! Care to join?" he asked with a smile.
"Did you learn to swim?" Viviana asked. The water was pretty turbulent and he managed to stay afloat without much struggle.
He didn’t know swimming that day when he almost sank. She was sure because she had to use all her strength to save him that day.
"Turns out, Melanie... I always knew how to swim!" he winked. "You know that, don’t you?" he asked in a patient tone.
"You lied that day?" Viviana asked. "You didn’t know how to swim that day... I had to save you..."
It was the day he confessed to her. He told her that he loved her. She will never forget that day.
She did have a question that day though. She wondered how he saved her from the river, the day they met. He jumped into the river for her that day. It was all confusing.
Leandre sighed. "Come on in," he waved his hand with a smile.
What a silly kitten!
By now Leander had grown to embrace her reaction. Honestly, what else did he expect? It took her ages to accept that he was in love with her. Would this be any different? Just like in the past, he decided to sigh away his exasperation until she registered the truth in her head.
Honestly, why does she have this strong aversion to change? It is hard for her to deviate from her beliefs. She is incapable of accepting changes in her beliefs. It might be a virtue and at the same time, it is a curse too.
What else can he do? This is who she is; she is the one he loves with his everything. She is his soulmate even with her few imperfections. It is better she is the way she is though. It has helped him a lot in a lot of ways. In a way, he found himself thanks to her character.
Viviana joined him in the water. The tides were heavy and she tried to stay afloat. She saw Leander swimming forward. He didn’t look stressed at all. His maneuvering techniques were not that of a beginner. He certainly didn’t learn to swim in the past year.
Leona was a good swimmer. Does this mean...
Leander got out at the bottom of a cliff.
"Are you cold?" he asked helping her up. "I want to take you up there."
"I’m fine," Viviana squeezed the water from her clothes.
"Come with me," he held her hand and helped her up the steep rocks.
Her heart squeezed as she exerted herself to climb up. As she was climbing, she remembered the bizarre thing Angelina told her—the donation she received which was made in memory of Leander Kastello—the payer’s brother.
She thought it was a mistake. But what if it wasn’t? What if...
Was Leona Leander’s sister? Brother? That would explain why Leona got along with Leander so well.
No, it can’t be...
I watched Leona burn!
I heard her screams!
I knew she died!
Why would Leander do this? What is he planning on doing by confusing me?
Viviana was in her thoughts that she didn’t realize how scary everything was. Only when she almost reached the middle did she look down to see a steep inclination behind her? Her heart started to pound, more than it did a second ago. Her knees went weak and her head started spinning out of fear. They were already five stories high up on that cliff.
"Do not look back, dear. Look at me," Leander squeezed her hand. "See that? That’s where we are going. Just a little bit more. Trust me."
Leander looked at her with a gentle smile. There was no annoyance or pity on his face. He was gentle. His eyes reminded her of the day she saw him on the rooftop.
Was she replacing an old memory? Did he look at her with gentleness that day?
Just like she got reminded of Leona did he get reminded of her and the sweet times they had together? Was that a look of love?
"I trust you," she said. That hasn’t changed. How could she doubt him? She loves him!
She was lost in her thoughts, but she didn’t let go of his hand. She climbed with him. Soon they reached a little platform and Viviana took deep breaths to control her panting.
"We are here," Leander said. "Look!"
Viviana followed the direction he pointed. "What cave is that?" she asked.
"Can you guess?" he asked.
Viviana looked into the dark cave. She heard the sound of trickling water. Her eyes widened.
Could it be...
She walked into the dark cave. Leander followed her. The opening of the cave let to a tunnel and Viviana walked as fast as she could. She didn’t have to walk long before she reached the end of the tunnel.
Inside was...
"How did you find this?" she asked looking at him.
