Chapter 367: Before It’s Too Late

Chapter 367: Before It’s Too Late

"I thought she was mad at him," Leonardo whispered in his father’s ear.

Vito smiled with a little disappointment. "I thought she would manage to hold on for at least a week..."

Leonardo pressed his lips and watched Viviana serving Leander his favorites. She cooked the entire feast in front of them. She had cooked his favorite and their father’s favorite too, but her entire focus was on Leander.

It made him feel a certain type of way. His chest burned out of that odd feeling.

Leonardo wanted to complain but then, he knew his father would say that she was doing what she was supposed to do—she was taking care of her husband. Why should he bother?

Speaking of...

Where is Leena? Why isn’t she back yet? Didn’t she say she wanted to sleep in early tonight?

He decided to call her and pulled out his phone.

"Leonardo!" Vito glared at him.

"One minute, Dad," Leonardo begged. "Please..."

Vit didn’t like it when he brings his phone to the dining table but Leonardo needed to know. He couldn’t even taste his food properly without knowing where she was.

Vito was still glaring at him.

"Leena. I’ll send a text to Leena and..."

Vito’s glare softened and Leonardo immediately sent the text. He kept the phone to the side. He knew it. Before his phone screen goes dark, she will answer him.

With his eyes on the phone, he took bite after bite. His phone screen almost blackened a couple of times but he kept it alive.

She didn’t even read his text.

Vito enjoyed the dinner. Seeing his daughter smiling and chatting with her husband, his heart was full. Eating his daughter’s cooking, filled his tummy.

He only worried about his son who hasn’t settled yet. He looked at him and was shocked to see Leonardo with his eyes glued to the phone screen.

"She hasn’t read it," Leonardo turned to Vito.

He looked confused.

"She must be busy," Vito said trying to keep a plain face. He didn’t understand why he was disturbed by it.

"She read it!" Leonardo almost jumped from the chair.

Vito smiled seeing the smile on Leonardo’s face. Viviana felt the jerk on the table and looked at Leonardo with a bright smile on his face and phone in his hand. Their father was smiling too and Viviana guessed it must be something to do with Angelina.

Leonardo kept staring at the phone for some time. "She went offline," he said wit great disappointment. "She didn’t reply..."

Oof!

Viviana raised her brows and looked at her father. Vito pressed his lips. Viviana looked at Leonardo starting at his phone for some more time. He said nothing more. He started eating but maybe he didn’t feel like it, he excused himself and got up.

Viviana was sad he stood up mid-dinner. She was about to follow him but Vito asked her not to go behind him. She understood that her father wanted her brother to deal with his emotions himself and continued eating.

Leonardo walked to the garden. In the ages he’s known her, she never leaves him on read. She’s answer him immediately after he sends the text. Even if she was busy, she’ll send some reply. At times, her reply would be riddled with typos as if she sent them without reading.

Is she in danger?

Leonardo’s heart skipped a beat. This should be her safest place in the whole world. He has people everywhere in the town and everyone knows Leena. She should not be in danger.

But she wants to "date" and whatnot. What if some scoundrel got to her and tried something with her?

He called her. The call went through but she didn’t answer.

That’s it!

He didn’t even care to look for his jacket. He didn’t care his air was messy and his shirt was crinkled. He wanted to find her.

"Ignazio!" he shouted. "Ask our men to find out where Leena is."

Ignazio made some calls and Leonardo was already in the garage to get his car. He kept on calling Angelina. Just as he was about to leave, Angelina answered his call.

"I’m busy, Leo. Is it anything important?" she asked.

Leonardo was shocked by the tone of her voice. It was novel to him. "You...where are you? Are you safe?" he asked ignoring the sinking feeling in his heart.

"I told you, Leo. I’m in a meeting. I’m busy~"

"You’re okay? You don’t need any help?" Leonardo asked.

"No, Leo," Angelina chuckled. "I’m fine! What’s with you today? You didn’t care for me the past five years when I was in much more dangerous parts of the world. Why are you worried for me now? Of course, I am okay. It’s the town I grew up in! All right, I have to go. Bye."

Without even expecting his reply, Angelina ended the call. Leonardo stared at his phone. Again, something felt empty.

Ignazio entered the garage with his phone in hand. "Leonardo, Leena is in~"

"It’s fine, Ignazio. She just talked to me...She is fine. She is right. She doesn’t need me..." Leonardo walked out mumbling under his breath.

Viviana helped the kitchen staff in putting aside the leftovers. When she got out of the kitchen, she was shocked to see Leonardo standing at the bar, staring at the bottles.

"Leonardo," she gently placed her hand on his shoulder. He stared at her blankly. "Are you okay?" Viviana asked. He blinked his eyes and came out of his reverie.

"It’s not like I never thought about her, you know... I was... She stopped talking to me first! I didn’t ask her to travel the world! Hell, I missed her so badly when she was gone. What was she on about? I care about her!"

Viviana didn’t understand the context but she understood it was about Angelina. She was sad to see her brother in such a depressed state. "Why didn’t you ever talk to me about her?" she asked. She was curious.

"Did you ever care about my personal life?" Leonardo asked. "You were in your own world sulking. And I was in my world..."

"Fucking," Viviana completed her sentence. She always thought that there must be something missing in his life for him to be so promiscuous. He is right. She didn’t care much about him. She thought of him as superficial and believed the façade he had.

Leonardo sighed.

"Do you want me to do anything for you?" she asked. She felt sorry for him. "Do you want me to talk to Angelina?" she asked.

Leonardo looked at her with ponderance. He did think it would be better if he knew why Angelina changed all of a sudden. What went wrong? They were okay even after she returned. She was just like always...until...

"Did you guys talk about me?" Leonardo asked.

"You?" Viviana shrugged. She didn’t say this or that.

"Did you know she confessed to me a long time ago?"

"Yeah," Viviana nodded. "I do not know the details though." Viviana lied through her teeth as she didn’t know what to say and what not to say.

"Well... I told her why I was angry she confessed to me...I thought we were friends but she... She’s acting weird now."

"What did you say?" Viviana asked.

"I was honest..." Leonardo looked away.

Viviana could see that Leonardo was second-guessing his decision.

"Maybe I shouldn’t have told her that she sullied the purity of our friendship..." Leonardo mumbled.

"You thought she was deceiving you? That she took advantage of your friendship while having other nasty intentions~"

"I don’t even feel that way now!" Leonardo interjected her. "I..." he sighed.

"What did she get back from your friendship, Leonardo? Think about it. Think why she stuck with you... You felt like she betrayed you. Think how she would have felt. Think why she might want to keep her distance from you now," she hugged him. "I love you, Leonardo. Just think once more about your feelings toward her. Just once...before it’s too late...before she moves on..."
