Chapter 365: Her Sufferings

Chapter 365: Her Sufferings

Leander looked around Viviana’s room. Vito asked him to take the guest room, but Martha brought him to Viviana’s room and asked him to get ready for dinner.

He wanted to visit her in the kitchen but he didn’t want to provoke her. She might add more salt in his bowl ruining a perfect dinner. Well, she wouldn’t ruin food, for sure. She might hide the food she cooked though. He didn’t want to take a chance. He wanted to have her meal to his heart’s content. He missed her cooking.

Steve left his bag and got out. Leander looked around. She didn’t have much lying around. It looked empty and clean like how his room was before she entered his life again.

She didn’t bother to decorate this place to her taste because she did not feel at home there.

He sighed. Sitting on the big bed, he opened the nightstand drawer or tried to. It was child-proofed and he couldn’t open it at first. He checked the insides to see what his wife was up to in his absence.

He watched over her from a distance and that meant that he didn’t have any intimate knowledge of her. In a way, he too was just like her. He missed her.

There were a lot of pillboxes in there and that surprised him. Furrowing his brows, he checked them one by one. Some of them were for her endometriosis and pain pills. A few of them were anti-depressants, anti-anxiety meds, and sleeping pills. He shook the bottles and understood that she was using those pills.

He bit his lips and closed the drawer. He remembered the baby and latched on the child lock too.

He plopped on the bed rubbing his lips. It hurt. She gave a good right hook. She was justified to hit him.

He knew he was selfish to leave her alone. Since she was not a good actress, he thought it would be better if she didn’t see him. At first, he was not planning on leaving any clue for her.

But the night before he enacted his plan, he couldn’t help but visit her, and seeing her face changed his mind. When Steve told him that she was there, he almost gave up on his plan. He thought of going into hiding with her for the rest of their life.

But when he found her passed out in the smoke, he knew why he made that plan. He knew how much she loved him and he could not keep her hidden. That wouldn’t be fair to her and it was not proper to ask that of her. What kind of man would he be if he lived in hiding, in fear that someday his old life would catch up? He will have to fight that day.

That’s why rather than waiting for the day the fight comes to him, he decided to fight on his own terms.

Seeing her state, he changed his mind and left her a clue. He thought that was enough and she would be fine knowing that he was alive.

But the truth is apparent in front of his eyes. She had suffered.

She was not supposed to be at the Orchid Gardens that day. He still couldn’t understand what prompted her to be there that day. He thought hearing that the Kastello family ended in flames and turned to dust because of an explosion would give her a sense of poetic justice.

That was the first thing she asked him when they met later. He thought she would find some solace in hearing that karma finally got the Kastello family.

But he underestimated how much her love for him had changed her. She grieved the loss of his family and ended up in a depressed state. Seeing their home going up in flames must have affected her deeply. He might have tried for her to accept Lemon Heights as their home but they had many pleasant memories in the Orchid Gardens too. She is sentimental and seeing that place explode into dust right in front of her must have traumatized her considering her previous traumas involving fires.

Ah, what have I done!

Leander stared at the ceiling for some time. This was not the first time he left her for his selfish reasons. He tried to do the same back then too.

This past year has been a ride for him. He was alone and ruminated a lot. He visited a lot of places and slept rough. In the discomfort and the pain of the loneliness, one good thing came out—He got his memories back.

He remembered the girl he decided to leave in the orphanage when he came to know of his father. His mother was against him leaving Abenney, but he wanted to go with his father.

With his father, he could be a boy. If he was a boy, he could marry her just like he wanted to.

He was mad at his mother for ruining his life; he remembered speaking harsh words to her that day. That day was the day he spent with his brother Leander and his soul—Melanie.

He tried to break it to her that he was a boy and that he was in love with her and was going to marry her when they grew up. But he couldn’t. He was too busy enjoying the jealousy in her eyes.

That’s why he left a letter for her, asking her to wait. He wanted to reveal it to her when she got old enough to understand. He thought that she would be more than happy to learn that her "Leo" was a male.

But everything happened differently. He forgot the past and he was raised as his dead brother. He forgot her and his love for her. And then that day, she came to him. Somehow, he could recognize her on that rooftop. He was grateful beyond words for that.

When he knew he was Leona Viceroy and still had no memories of his past, he thought that he didn’t have to reveal the truth to her. He also was not happy that she was sure that Leona was just a friend.

But what would she know? She was just seven or eight back then. He was just twelve. What did any of them know about love back then? If he thinks about it, he finds it weird. Was that feeling even love? He remembered that he wanted her with him forever. That’s why he wanted to marry her. Was that love? He was just twelve. Isn’t it weird falling for a seven-year-old? It’s definitely weird; criminal even.

In a way, he was glad that they fell in love all over again when they were adults. It fortified their feelings and now he understands what love is and the strong feelings he has toward his wife. She too loves him from the bottom of her heart.

He wanted to tell her that Leona Viceroy survived the fire. After getting all the memories, he just wants to see her reaction when he reveals who he is. Will she be happy? She definitely will be! She would be happy that her Leona is still alive and well.

Then he took in a deep breath and got up. She is hurt and that’s why she exploded. He shouldn’t have made fun of her. It’s okay. Nothing is lost yet. He can still try.

Because she loves him and he loves her. They have a daughter. They can be a family just like she always wanted to. He wants the same too.

He kept the neatly folded clothes on the bed and went to the bathroom to take a shower. He should try to get her calm. He should assure her that he is not going to leave her again.

Drying his hair, he stepped out of the bathroom. Another towel was around his waist. He’s been staying in a hotel for the past few days and he got used to this routine of getting dressed near the bed.

Just as he walked to the bedroom, the door opened. He looked to the side to see...Viviana.

She did not look impressed.

Okay...What should I do?
