Chapter 288: Not Running Away

Viviana saw that Helena had no plans on stopping. She was walking right at her with no intention of stopping.

Helena was challenging her!

Viviana found it odd. A heavily pregnant woman, who is carrying the most expected first male heir of the family was charging unprovoked at her.

There was no need for her to do that. She had no interactions with Helena lately. Unless...

Viviana remembered what Luca said. Her heart clenched. It might be possible that Leander was meeting with Helena more than once. It might have given Helena the confidence to challenge her.

She shunned Helena in the past knowing she had the support of Leander. Now that her husband doesn’t even support her anymore, the mushrooms are budding up.

This only means that news must have spread that there is trouble between the couple in the orchid gardens.

Viviana wetted her lips. Well, it is to be expected. Those women will need some gossip to talk about and they would rather it would be about someone they hate than them.

But why would Helena risk be angering her husband by making her meetings with Leander public? She cannot just leave her husband just like that, can she?

Viviana didn’t know if she was thinking too much. But what if Leander had decided to "rescue" Helena from her husband? Helena is his first love and he might have felt bad for her to be stuck in an unhappy life.

She felt her face sting as if someone slapped her hard.

What is she going to do? It appears that Leander will throw her out.

Helena walked not breaking eye contact with her dogs, staring them down. Viviana could see her dogs getting unsettled. They don’t like anyone near her. And Helena’s posture screams danger; at least the dogs would perceive Helena as a threat.

Viviana commanded her dogs to stop and turned to leave. She didn’t want to be there anymore. Helena wanted something from her and she didn’t have anything.

First of all, she didn’t want to be in a situation where the baby gets hurt. Her puppies are getting riled up. Although they won’t bite or hurt Helena, even a trip might cause danger. Her puppies are obedient but she didn’t want to put her faith on them. At the end of the day, they are animals. Viviana wanted to remove herself from a situation where she might cause danger.

Her pride is nothing compared to the wellbeing of the baby.

And secondly, no matter who the aggressor was, if something happened to Helena, people are going to blame her. After all, Helena is heavily pregnant. And if what she suspects is true, if rumors are spreading, then they will blame her for being jealous of her and hurt her on purpose.

Viviana was not even sure if Leander would stand by her side anymore. What if he blames her too?

Viviana turned to leave.

"Minerva!"

Helena called her. She was loud and her voice almost echoed around. There weren;t many people around but Viviana couldn’t pretend that she didn’t hear her.

She turned and faced her.

Athena started growling at Helena and immediately Ares and Apollo followed suit. Viviana could see that her puppies are not at all happy to be near Helena.

"I’m surprised to see you here," Helena smiled.

In her smile, Viviana saw the mockery. Helena was saying without any words: "I am in front of you after you shunned me. What are you going to do about it?"

"Why?" Viviana was blunt. She held back her puppies. "Did you think I don’t have the money to spend here?"

Helena’s smile vanished for a moment. "No... I..." Helena held her protruding belly. She carefully eyed the puppies as they inched closer to her. She appeared to be scared of the puppies and yet she didn’t leave. She wanted to say something.

"I was worried for you because I heard that your affair with Leonardo Vitale has affected your marriage. I just wanted~"

"My affair with who?" Viviana raised her brows. She almost let go of the leash but she managed to hold back her anger.

Affair? Me? With Leonardo—my brother? What the hell is she on about? Is that the rumors circulating around or did she make that up?

"Leonardo Vitale," Helena repeated. Her lips were curved and her eyes were glistening with malice. "You are also ve-ry close with Lionel Waldorf, aren’t you? A man like Leander won’t be able to accept that. You should know. Listen, I am speaking this out of care for you..." Helena stepped closer.

"Would you mind stepping back? My puppies don’t do well with strangers," Viviana pulled the leash back.

She listened to what Helena said. She was very mad about it. But Helena was getting awfully close to the puppies and she got worried.

She couldn’t believe how careless Helena was with three dogs that were growling near her.

"I can see... you don’t want to talk about it," Helena stepped closer.

Athena the combative pup, started barking. Helena was obviously scared hearing the thundering bark of the majestic breed. But she still got closer to the puppies.

She is purposefully trying to cause an incident...

Viviana had that feeling seeing how Helena acted. She couldn’t rationalize what kind of mother would endanger her baby but Occam’s razor suggests that the explanation that requires fewer assumptions is right.

In this case, Viviana can see that Helena wants to endanger her baby to make her appear bad.

Viviana looked around and already there were people staring at the drama there. Her puppies bark didn’t help.

Viviana didn’t want to fall prey for Helena’s tactics. If Leander throws her out for this, then so be it. She would be happy that she didn’t endanger Helena’s boy.

"I know my husband’s been seeing you, Helena. And you think it’s something. You think he doesn’t love me anymore. But it’s just... He’s a man. And you’re easy. You should know that I am his wife. I wear his ring. I carry his black card. I live in his house. And, Helena, you won’t garner sympathy from him by acting weak. So f*ck off and go back to your children and your c*ck of a husband," she said. "Make sure you’re perfect before daring to blame me. It won’t take a second for me to end you. Be careful!"

There were murmurs among the onlookers as some had heard it. Helena’s face went red out of embarrassment.

Viviana pulled the leash. "Athena, Apollo, Ares, be good!" she commanded.

The puppies all went silent.

"Walk!" Viviana commanded and the puppies walked to the front without making any fuzz. The crowd in front of her parted and give her way, and like a goddess marching to war, Viviana walked with her back straight.

She was not proud of what she said. But what else can she say to a woman who blames her of having an affair with her brother?

Leonardo is her brother by blood. And Lionel is the guy she loves and respects highly—as a brother. How can she act as if she cares for her while blaming her?

Not caring for the stares on her, she walked to the grooming salon. She didn’t want to run away without finish doing what she came here to do.

She is Minerva Kastello, wife of Leander Kastello. She will live up to her name.
