Chapter 202: Show Him Love

Viviana checked on Gabriella before getting to make breakfast. Gabriella was still asleep and she had eaten a little of the dinner. She picked up the tray.

Gabriella woke up with a gasp probably sensing someone else in the room. It was pitiful to watch. Gabriella surely was disturbed. She needs rest and a peaceful environment.

"It’s me, Gabby," Viviana patted her head. "Go back to sleep. I’ll bring you breakfast in a while..."

Viviana stared at Leander as they were eating breakfast.

"What?" Leander asked feeling her stare at him.

Viviana shook her head. He said he will find the tape Evander holds. But she didn’t know how long it will take for him to get hold of it. And when he gets a hold of it, what will he do?

"What?" Leander asked again. This time, he was not sounding gentle.

"How long will Gabby-uh-Gabriella stay here?" she asked.

"I thought you wanted her here," he said.

He was skeptical at first. But he could see that they still get along. And he didn’t think it was going to be a problem.

"I do, but..." Viviana bowed her head.

She would like Gabriella here. But Gabriella doesn’t want to be here. She didn’t say it outright. But she is uncomfortable staying here.

"I’ll see what I can do," Leander said.

Women! Who knows what they are thinking?

"Can you... She wants to move to a coastal town. She doesn’t even have her high school diploma and it would be hard for her to find a job. It would be very helpful for her if you could~"

"Why? She didn’t save?" Leander raised his brows. How could she have no money?

"She was trafficked, Leander. It’s not like they were giving her a share. She was a... slave," Viviana had to explain. He still didn’t believe that Gabriella was forced to be there.

Leander went silent. He didn’t think about it that way. But if she was trafficked, then he will have to help her settle. Otherwise, Lionel will take it upon himself to take care of her. He did not want that to happen.

"She has helped me a lot in the past, Leander. She saved my life. I will take her in if this was my house and find her a job as a clerk in a supermarket or somewhere. But..." Viviana let out a sigh and stopped talking.

She could see that Leander was not very happy with her words. She didn’t know what angered him though. He does not like it if she talks about her past. Maybe he knows that she is Melanie and it angers him that she was not telling him the truth. But she will never confess to him that she is Melanie.

Or he might be angry that she is regretting being his wife. But she is stuck here though. She used to go to work every day whether she liked it or not. Now she’s just stuck in the house all day long. She is not very happy about this situation.

But she didn’t want to talk to him about it. He treats her as his wife. And she’s supposed to stay in because she is his wife. He’s not going to change his mind about that.

And she was planning on dying. He forced her to live. So...

She didn’t think it would be appropriate to talk to him about leaving the house every day for one reason or another.

Leander received a call and he answered it.

"I’ll be there," he said and answered the call after listening to what the other person said for ten seconds.

It must have been something very important, he didn’t even have seconds.

"I’ll be back within an hour," he said before leaving.

Viviana nodded and send him off as usual. She saw the ginger cat standing by the stairs.

"You do look like a lion," she said squatting at a safe distance from the cat. ’Is that why he likes you?"

She got used to them being there. If they approached her suddenly, she’d be scared shitless, but if she knew they were there, she was not as scared as before.

Maybe the cat sensed that she was not afraid of her, it walked to her just to tease her. Cats are bastards, she knew. They sense fear and attack fear.

And she is fear personified when it comes to cats.

Her fear level rose as the cat approached her. With its ears upright and swaying its tail, it walked. She could see even the walk was pretty similar to that of a lion.

"Maybe it’s the shape of your ears..." she said.

Mary was ready to grab the cat when Viviana signals to. Viviana thought that this might be the day that she pets the cat. But when the cat was a couple of meters away, she found her heart shaking. She didn’t want to risk it.

"Get her," Viviana told Mary.

Mary with a snicker got the cat. Viviana didn’t mind the snickers. She might die of a heart attack if the cat gets any closer to her.

Well, she tried!

Viviana went to check on Gabby. Gabby was awake. Maybe she never went back to sleep after she woke up earlier. Viviana asked Mary to bring breakfast.

"How does Abenney sound?" Viviana asked.

She thought about it and felt that Gabriella might have a comfortable life in Abenney. She is used to that place. And Abenney is neither a small town where everyone pries on others’ business nor a big city where she might encounter the men, she knew all the time. The tourist spot is pretty secluded from the actual town.

And life there goes on without much drama.

"You’re going to ask Leander for help?" Gabriella asked.

Viviana could see that Gabriella was not very keen on that idea. But Viviana watched as Gabriella’s reservations get smothered with a solemn look. She understood what Gabriella might be feeling.

What other choice does she have?

"Well, beggars can’t be choosers," Gabriella shrugged and stared out through the window.

"And I asked him to find the tape from Evander," Viviana added. "He said he’ll look into it."

Gabriella turned swiftly. "Why?" she shouted and almost grabbed Viviana’s shoulders.

But she let out a sigh and turned to look out the window once again.

"You listened to me..." Gabriella mumbled.

What better way is there to turn Leander against Evander other than that tape? Leander did treat her as a friend. And he has a big heart. That tape will anger him. It would be that terrible.

She didn’t want someone—especially Leander to watch that tape. That thought made her skin crawl. But Leander watching it would give him a good perspective of the character of Evander.

"What?" Viviana didn’t understand what Gabby meant and asked.

Gabriella shook her head. "Nothing. Make sure he watches it," she said.

Viviana held her hand. "Is it going to be bad?" She didn’t know how Leander would feel watching the tape. He probably would get very upset.

Gabriella leaned on Viviana’s shoulder. "You don’t want to see him getting hurt?" she asked interlocking her fingers with hers.

"Do I look like I am worrying for him?" Viviana asked.

Gabriella looked at her face closely. "Very much," she winked.

"Gabby!" Viviana pouted.

"Well, you’re worried for me to. I agree..."

"That’s good."

"I’m glad he has you..." Gabriella said and leaned on Viviana’s shoulder. "Do not let him go, Melanie... Give him all your love. That guy doesn’t know what it feels like to be truly loved. Show him what true love is..."

Viviana held her breath as her eyes watered. "But my love is fatal," she mumbled. Everyone she loves will end up dead. It’s her fate.

"Don’t think too highly of yourself, Melanie... No one has that much power. We are all nothing but little specks compared to the universe. The world certainly doesn’t revolve around you. Even if there is a higher power or fate as you like to call it... It does not care about whom you love...If fate is too powerful, why does it care about you alone? Don’t be too delusional. Do not let go of the nice moments you get to have. Live, Melanie. Live a happy life..."

"You surely think I am narcissistic, don’t you?" Viviana scoffed.

"Yeah, and delusional," Gabriella laughed.

Viviana said nothing. She wanted Gabriella to be right. She wanted no one to care about what she does. Then that means her ill fate was not the reason for the deaths of her loved ones.

"When you get to Abenney, will you check on Father Flannagan for me?" Viviana asked. "And tell him that I am alive. I feel so bad for him."

"Sure," Gabriella nodded. "Who else?"

"Hmm... Who else?" Viviana looked at the ceiling. "There is Ava...the fish I know..."

"Ah, don’t go on about that f*cking whale you’re friends with, Melanie," Gabriella looked at her with a disapproving head shake.

"It’s a hammerhead shark and yes, I am friends with one of them. Ava. Father Flannagan knows it!" Viviana insisted.

"Father Flannagan didn’t want to hurt the feelings of a little sickly child and he lied, Melanie. Surely, you do not still believe that you’re friends with a fish?"

"But..." Viviana pouted. It’s the truth though.

"He’s back," Viviana stood up hearing Leander’s car. "I’ll come back later," she ran out.
