Chapter 183: How She Ended Up There

Gabriella talked about the dark feelings she went through then. With the orphanage closed, she didn’t even have a place to return to. If her current family wanted to return her, she had nowhere to go.

Viviana understood Gabriella completely because she too felt that way. Whatever the memories of the orphanage were for her, it still was home. And when it burned, it left a deep void. The feeling that there is no place to return to is a terrible feeling for a child.

But Gabriella’s parents assured her that they are not returning there after finding out that Gabriella almost ended up depressed learning that some of her friends ended up dead in that tragic fire too.

She had lost her friends, and she had lost her home. That’s what she felt then. But her parents were understanding of her.

It took time for Gabriella to trust her parents and feel free in their home and accept their feelings. Her brother accepted her in the family too and life was blissful for Gabriella.

Her parents were rich and she went to a private school where the wealthy go. Her life went well. Her brother became an engineer just as she was in her final year of school. She had good scores and everyone believed she’d become a lawyer just kike her dad and take on his firm.

But then tragedy struck.

An accident happened. Gabriella’s father died on the spot but her mother was in a very critical state. They were rich and money shouldn’t have been a problem.

It shouldn’t have.

But it became a major problem.

Just as her father died, his partners all joined forces and took his law firm for themselves leaving nothing to the family while the medical bills of Gabriella’s mother kept on piling up. Some of them were paid for by the insurance company but certain tests and medications didn’t come in the insurance coverage.

So, the hospital refused to do the further treatment as the bills were left unpaid.

Gabriella went to her brother and she was still shaking when she told Viviana the story. Her brother had sold every property their parents owned and was planning on leaving the country. He didn’t care that his mother was struggling for life in the hospital. All he cared for was not to let their father’s partners get a hand on their wealth.

He refused to pay for the medical bills of their mother; his mother who gave birth to him and told her to "Just let it go. She’d be dead anyway."

Gabriella couldn’t let it go. And she ended up signing up for something she never would have even thought about if the situation was different.

She sighed up her body in exchange for the money to save her mother.

Viviana understood Gabriella and sympathized with her. If she were in her situation; if her mother’s life was dependent on it, what would she have done?

Would she have traded her body? She wasn’t sure. But she traded up her soul for getting back at the people who took her parents from her.

So, who is she to judge her?

Viviana thought that she understood Gabriella. But now that she knows that Lionel was in love with her and she was friends with Leander probably. She had rich friends.

Why didn’t she ask them for help?

Viviana vaguely remembered Gabriella mentioning "love" to her in their last meeting. Gabriella wanted to know about Viviana’s love life and she glossed over it. She didn’t tell her the truth that she cannot get pregnant.

Viviana asked the same question to Gabriella and she looked so forlorn. She told her about her situation as the "lady of the night" in the most popular brothel in the town. She didn’t think that she will find love.

Viviana knew that she was hiding something then. But she didn’t care much about that topic and so she didn’t probe her about it.

But now she was curious.

Back then, Gabriella didn’t tell her about her connection with Leander. But when Viviana expressed her anger about Leander and his family and her desire to hurt them back, Gabriella talked her into attacking Evander. Viviana too was wavering between two plans and she thought Gabriella made sense.

That was why she set Evander as the target.

Viviana thought that Gabriella hated Evander because he owned Venus Point. But now she thought that there might eb more to it.

She wanted to ask Gabriella about it.

She recognized Gabriella’s perfume on Leander’s suit the previous day. Gabriella told her that someone gets a unique scent for her from an exclusive perfumer. There would be no one else in this world wearing that particular perfume.

That’s why she was very angry at Leander. And she was angry at Gabriella too for getting that close to Leander to let her perfume linger on him.

She didn’t think something went on between them, but when Leander told her that Lionel is in love with Gabriella, she was sure that nothing was going on between Leander and Gabriella. That’s why she was able to smile at Gabriella and at Leander.

But there is something going on. Leander is being cryptic and he might know where Gabriella was from. IN that case, Leander might have already figured out that she’s from Abenney too.

She needs to know what he knows. And for that, she needs to talk to Gabriella. She cannot think about what Leander told her or about to tell her in the morning.

He cannot love her. She must have been delusional. She’ll pretend that it didn’t happen.

Viviana got down from the bed and opened one of the wine bottles. Nothing opens someone up like a little wine. She didn’t think that she needs to manipulate Gabriella to know the truth. Gabriella cares for Father Flannagan just as much as she does. She will not let Leander hurt him. So, she will tell her what she knows.

Wine, is just for fun.

"When I saw the script..." Gabriella said.

Viviana stopped pouring the wine for a moment before she gathered herself.

Script? What script?

Lionel’s script? He is making a script out of the story I told him?

So, Gabriella was meeting with him until recently. And she was the one who broke his heart.

No wonder Leander hates Gabriella so much.
