Chapter 152: Ointment For A Heavy Heart

Leander read further with a heavy heart.

How terrible is it for that girl’s dying declaration was ignored and her name redacted everywhere? She’s become persona non grata in the case although she was supposed to play an important role.

He’s not someone who sides with those who opposes his family. He should be glad to read that the girl was considered to be a plant of the school board during the rest of the case. The plaintiffs claimed that the orphan girl was coached by the school board to speak lies to save their skin. They said that the girl had perjured herself by stating falsehoods.

It hurt. His heart hurt for that little girl’s efforts to be dismissed like nothing. For some reason, his heart sided with that girl.

The plaintiffs won millions in settlement. The license for the school was cancelled and orphanage too lost its permit. The school board didn’t have enough money to pay for them and they had to sell the land to pay the settlement.

And who bought the land? His family!

Leander closed the thick book where he kept the secrets he gathered. What should he do? He’s learned that his grandfather is responsible for the fire that killed kids. He had some doubts previously. But now, he knows for sure.

His grandfather killed kids and covered it up by erasing the existence and dying declaration of an innocent child.

All for a piece of real estate!

He knew. His family does this type of shit to hoard more money and power. But still... killing orphans and leaving them without a roof over their heads? Isn’t that cruel?

What else did his grandfather do?

The memory he thought he lost... How much of those memories were suppressed by his grandfather?

Leander let out a sigh. Should he even learn about it more?

He had a pretty good life until few weeks back. He thought he was loved and that he had figured out his life. But where is he now?

Utterly confused and... he’s not unhappy though. He is sad, but he wouldn’t say that he is depressed. He should be. Nothing he knew was true. He should be broken by that.

But he is not that broken.

Closing his eyes, he took deep breaths. He heard the soft footsteps getting to the room.

Yeah... she might be the reason he’s not fallen into despair.

-----

Viviana stood by the door wondering if she should knock the door or not. Leander was inside his office the whole day. She had to fetch him for lunch. He asked her not to disturb him for the day and now she didn’t know if she should call him for dinner or not.

Viviana lowered her hand that she raised to knock on the door. Maybe she will wait for him to come downstairs.

She turned to go down the stairs when she heard the door click open behind her. She stopped and looked at Leander who stood by the door.

"Dinner?" she asked.

He sighed. Viviana looked at him closely and he didn’t look well.

"Are you okay?" she walked to him and pressed the back of her hand to his forehead to check if he had fever.

"Minnie..." Leander held her hand and kissed her palm.

Viviana inhaled sharply as she didn’t expect him to do that. But she let him kiss her hand. She loved it whenever he kissed her anywhere.

She wrapped her free hand around his waist. She could only reach his waist and he looked like he needed a hug. She took a step closer to him so that he can lean on her if needed.

He stopped kissing her hand and rested his chin on her shoulder. She rubbed his back. She didn’t know what made him sad. She didn’t think that he would tell her if she asked. So, she didn’t ask.

He can tell her if he wants to. Otherwise, she didn’t want to put him on a spot.

Gently rubbing his back, she waited to see what he does next. His hold on her tightened and he sniffed deeply. She felt like he wanted to merge her with him or he wanted to sniff her to suck her inside him.

Well, she knew she was daydreaming. He might not feel that way about her. He does not love her that way. But rather than feeling sad, she was relieved that he was depending on her when he was sad.

Leander could feel his mojo returning as he leaned in her embrace. Without even saying anything, she is applying ointment to his ailing heart. He didn’t want to let her go. He wanted to merge her to him or he wanted to swallow her so that she gets mixed inside him.

"What’s for dinner?" he asked after he got uplifted after a while.

"Your favorite," Viviana smiled. She could see that he’s back to normal and that made her smile. "Come, see," she dragged him downstairs holding his hand.

Leander followed her with a smile. She says she cooked his favorite. How would she know what is favorite dish is? He likes everything she cooks! And look at her smile...

Ah... I am so grateful for her!

Just as they got downstairs, they heard a commotion by the main door. Steve was trying to stop someone from entering. Leander got his hand out of her hold and held her hand in a protective instinct. Pushing her behind him, he reached for the gun on his waist.

Viviana hid behind him. It was not a hard thing to do.

"Let me see your boss! Where is that little b*tch? Is he hiding in his wife’s skirt? Hey! Sissy boy! Get out! Come meet me if you have guts!"

The man shouted all sorts of provoking profanities and was obviously drunk. Viviana recognized the voice of the man. If she recognized him, she knew that Leander would have recognized him too.

Leander was standing still in front of the door. Viviana peeked from behind him. That man was jumping from amidst Leander’s men to have a peek inside the house.

What is he doing? Is he that drunk?
