Chapter 146: Uncontrollable Feeling
Viviana is not a stranger to offering everything she can to others. She found joy in that. But when she looks at Leander, everything is different.
Just like the feeling she gets when she watches him relish her cooking, just like the feeling she gets when she sees him laugh, just like now...
It’s not just happiness. She knows happiness. She felt happy whenever she had dinner with her parents. This feeling she had when he is around is something more intense.
Yeah, because there is some other factor involved... Lust, maybe?
Yeah, she definitely didn’t think about anyone being handsome or sexy when they are laughing. Leander is the first. That might be the difference.
It can’t be love. Because why would she fall in love with her parents’ killer? That’s bonkers!
Maybe that’s what it is... just the human need to be accepted in someone’s fold and maybe lust is involved. That should be it.
She watched as he gently tried to remove the wrapper without tearing them. She didn’t think that he would be the type of pf guy who would waste time opening a wrapper without tearing it.
"Just tear it!" she reached out to the little box, but a child protecting his candy, he raised his hands up so her short hands can’t reach to the gift.
He glared at her. She raised her hands. She couldn’t help but smile at his boyish antics. There is something sexy about a macho man when he acts like a boy in front of you.
She didn’t quite get it. She was feeling...pride(?) and a sense of achievement seeing him like that.
It’s weird. Everything is weird. She doesn’t even understand herself anymore. Maybe she’s dead. And she is in some other universe where the air makes her feel weird. There can’t be no other explanation.
With a pounding heart, she waited for him to open the box. He not only removed the wrapper without tearing it, but he also even folded the wrapper and the bow neatly and placed it in his pocket. He then opened the box.
Viviana’s heart almost jumped out of her chest. That little lemon was not even bigger than her fingernail. How small would it look on him?
"A lemon?" He raised his brows, and his voice went a little high-pitched too. "I love lemons. How did you know?" he asked.
"You do?" she covered her mouth letting out a sigh of relief. "That’s a relief! But it is very small compared to..."
She stopped her whining noticing that he does not care that it was small. His face was glowing with happiness. Whenever she sees him smile like this, she has this urge to leave everything and stay by his side and watch him smile.
As she watched him, a flicker of memory passed in her memory. "I love lemons..." the childish voice said. "They are sour and tangy... like you... but it can be sweetened with a little sugar! I’ll be your sugar, Melanie!"
Viviana shook her head. This is not the first time she is remembering Leona when she is with Leander.
Honestly, this kind of obsession can’t be good.
Let Leona rest in peace, Melanie... Stop thinking about her.
Leander placed the box on the dresser, and he continued to open the other gift. Viviana regretted buying him the shirt as he opened it. He will never wear the shirt. He probably doesn’t even know there would be shirts that cost less than $10. He probably will get an allergic reaction to the fabric of the shirt.
All his shirts are pure silk or pure linen or pure wool. She didn’t even think if he could be allergic to mixed fabrics or cotton. She almost yanked the shirt out of his hand as she built a terrible picture in her mind, all by herself.
"A red shirt?" Leander raised his brows. "There are black stars..." he looked carefully at the shirt. He then removed his jacket and shirt quickly.
Viviana got his jacket and shirt. Without saying anything, he tried on the shirt she bought.
"It fits..." he walked to the floor-length mirror and checked himself.
"The fit’s not good, isn’t it?" she said. The fit certainly was in no way close to the shirts he wears.
"What?" Leander turned and looked at her. "How did you manage to get my size right?" he asked. "None of my shirts have the size."
All his shirts are tailored. He doesn’t buy readymade shirts. But she got his size right. The fit is perfect for a readymade shirt.
"I just...guessed..." Viviana said.
His clothes are usually sent for drycleaning and so she never had to fold them. But she arranges his shirts in the closet. She’s seen them multiple times. She just used an average measurement.
"The blood-red color suits you," she said.
She was oscillating between dark blue and blood red. She didn’t even think of getting him some bright or light colors. She knew he won’t get used to it after wearing black all his life. She just wanted to see him in another color.
With his devilish charm, she thought blood-red would suit him. And she was right!
"You think so?" he looked at her with his eyes wide.
Again... Like a boy...
Viviana clutched her chest as she couldn’t bear the pounding of her heart.
She nodded. Standing in front of the mirror, he checked himself out turning side to side.
"Happy birthday, Leander," she said.
Who knows? Maybe she won’t have the chance to tell him that on his birthday.
He turned to look at her. He held out his hand.
Viviana blinked not knowing what he wanted.
"So... did you like it?" she asked. "The... both...?"
Leander walked to her. Out of instinct, she took a step back. He frowned. He then turned and walked to the mirror and continued to check himself.
"Bring the lemon," he said and she walked to the dresser and brought the box.
"You put some thoughts into it, didn’t you? Sour lemons... tangy lemons... " Leander scoffed. "Just like you, Mousy..."
