Chapter 122: His Angel
Chapter 122: His Angel
Viviana was deeply asleep but had scattered bad dreams. One of her recurring ones was she laying on her back, unable to move or breathe—like her experience on the day of Abenney fire.
She woke up with a gasp.
She’s learned to control her nightmares to some extent. But this time, she could not breathe even after waking up. She was pressed against his chest and her back hurt by the force he was holding her.
His heartbeat had gone haywire. She could not look at his face, but she knew he is not fine.
"Kastello," she called for him.
As someone who went through therapies for nightmares, she knew that waking up is not the right option. But she was hurting and in the verge of collapsing without air. She needs him to let her go.
"Leander Kastello," she called him again, gently.
He still was not waking up. But his hold around her loosened. She supported herself on her elbow and had a good look at him. The sky had turned dark and she saw perspiration glittering on his forehead. The pillow was soaked with sweat.
She didn’t know how long he’s suffering from this nightmare.
"Leander!" she called him, gently tapping his cheek.
But there was no response. His eyebrows were knitted and his lips were pouted as he tried to say something.
She gently lifted his head up and slid her arm under his neck. Placing her other hand at the back of his head, she let him lean on her chest. She kissed his head.
Gently caressing his wet hair, she let out a deep breath. She thought she was the only sorry being in this world. There are others who share the same suffering as her too.
She started singing.
"May it be and evening star..."
When she had nightmares, her mother sang for her. She didn’t like her mother to lose her sleep so she later told her that she doesn’t have nightmares anymore only to suffer alone.
"...You walk a lonely path; Oh, how far you are from home...
She could feel him loosening up as she continued to sing. She wiped his perspiration and adjusted herself to be on level with his face to observe him. He looked calm, and his eyelids were trembling. She smiled knowing that he will fall asleep once more.
As she sang for him, she realized how her mother would have felt when she was comforting her although she was awake in the middle of the night. She wouldn’t have been troubled in the least. She would have felt sad for her daughter’s state, but she would be relieved that she was near her and was able to comfort through her tough time.
She felt sorry for lying to her mother.
She thought she always gravitated towards anyone who shows love to her. But even from a young age, she had only pushed people away or kept them at a distance from her even though she knew that they love her.
But that was because of her fear. She loses everyone she loves. That’s her fate. She thought she was protecting them from her jinx.
But she failed! She lost them even though she kept them at a distance.

Leander on the other hand, who was paralyzed in fear seeing the odd woman in his dreams, slowly found himself getting released from the dark clutches of those hate-filled eyes.
In the distance, he saw light.
And in the bright light that would make the sun shy, he could see the girl. Again, it was that girl with the short wavy hair. Her eyes too were dark. But it was not fear-inducing dark. It was mystically dark; as if she was holding the entire universe in her eyes.
Those sparkles of love in her eyes, contained gigantic galaxies that held enormous light.
The girl held out her hand. Her lips were moving and he could see her mouth opening and shutting. Song... she was singing.
It was a very familiar song. One that he held the memory of. But he forgot what that song was. Someone used to sing that song a lot to him. Who was that?
Before he knew it, he was running towards the light. He didn’t even bother to look back. He didn’t care about the darkness behind him, for he was running toward the soothing light.
Or is he running to the past where there was light in his life? He couldn’t say. And he couldn’t give a shit. He ran. He ran to her.
His angel...
-----
"...A promise lives within you now..."
As she reached the end of the song, he opened his eyes. She gently caressed his forehead in a downward motion to keep his eyes closed and kissed his forehead.
He let out a deep breath, as he followed her gesture to close his eyes. "...Angel..." he whispered, before falling asleep again.
Viviana was glad that he fell asleep. If he woke up just like that, he might have gotten a terrible headache. She used to get headaches too.
She checked the time. It was a little late for dinner. But she decided to prepare supper; something light, so he could sleep well the whole night. Sleeping without eating at night is not good, she knew.
She carefully slipped out of his embrace. He grunted and his eyebrows flinched as she got out. She could hear his stomach rumble. He was hungry. And it won’t be long before he wakes up again.
"Shh...It’s okay..." she caressed his hair.
She got the tissues and gently wiped the wetness on his hair. His face had already dried up. Well, she smelled like him, so she could guess how his face got dry.
Just as she was going to get up, he held her hand as if he didn’t want her to leave.
"I’ll be back with your supper," she whispered in his ear. "Be good..."
Like a good boy, he did let go of her hand.
With a bright smile ruling her face, she went downstairs to the kitchen.
