Chapter 113: Her New Status
Chapter 113: Her New Status
With a smile, standing by the door was... his wife.
Leander had to blink his eyes hard twice before confirming that he is seeing a pleasant smile on her face. But after that, he realized that it was not a pleasant smile, but a robotic one.
What is she doing wearing a dress and makeup at home?
"Should I run a bath, or do you prefer a shower?" she asked getting his coat.
Leander was tongue-tied. He stared at her to see what she’s been up to. But she was looking at him with her eyebrows raised and a sweet smile plastered to her face. He looked at Steve who was standing behind her.
"Capo." He bowed his head.
Leander looked at Katerina. "Lunch is ready if you want to eat first," she said wiping her hands in her apron.
"Did you eat?" he asked the woman who was now bowing her head.
"I did!" she had that same irksome smile on her face. "But if you want, I can join you at the table."
He waved his hand and walked up the stairs. He could hear her following him.
Why is she wearing shoes inside the house? She used to walk barefoot everywhere...
Still confused, he came out of the bathroom as usual—with a towel wrapped around his waist and another clean towel to dry his hair. She is the one drying his hair these days.
But she was not in the vanity. He walked to the bedroom, and she was standing by the door. That obnoxious smile was missing from her face which he appreciated. She was donning a bland expression. So, he looked into her eyes for answers. It was obvious she had something to say. But the door was open.
Okay...
He was confused. He held out the towel to her.
Hello, his hair is not going to dry itself!
But she pointed at the bed. "I don’t know if you are going out or not...You can choose," she said.
He turned to look at the bed. There were two sets of his clothes laid on the bed, his work outfit and loungewear. He sat on the bed drying his hair as he could infer that she is not going to dry his hair. He has hands, so he didn’t mind, actually.
"Close the door and come closer," he said as he could see that she was standing closer to the door almost defensively.
Yeah, he lost it with her yesterday. But he is not going to hit her every day. He is not a scum who gets off by hitting his wife.
"The door stays open in the day," she said.
With her hands clasped to the front, she maintained the pose of an air hostess, but her eyes... They were bland, not revealing much which was a surprise for him. Usually, she showed her feeling very well.
"Speak," he said, rubbing his hair with the towel. He didn’t want to argue with her about the door.
"I realized something today," she said. "I realized that I am your wife."
He stopped rubbing his hair and looked at her. What does she mean? She only realized that today?
"Steve and Katerina were very worried very early in the morning. They waited for me to wake up to tell me that it was unusual that you disappeared like that. They speculated that something worse had happened. They talked about the protective measures to be taken in case the worse had come. They asked me to stay inside as my life too might be in danger. Steve promised to protect me. But they did have people track you to get a clear idea of what happened to you. They asked me to be brave. They didn’t want the main house to know about your disappearance and wanted to keep it a secret at least until they were sure of what happened to you."
She took in a deep breath and looked at him as if she had told him everything she wanted to say.
"And?" he asked. His people did the best they can like he advised them to. He was satisfied by their response.
But he was almost annoyed with her. What’s with that behavior?
"They didn’t have to inform me of any of that. But they did!"
"Hmm..." Leander got it then. "Because you are my wife."
"Yes," she nodded. "I am your wife. I will be kept in the loop regarding your whereabouts."
Leander shrugged. It’s the truth. He is a man and doesn’t have to listen to her. But she is entitled to know where he is. "Were you worried? Or did you pray for my demise so you can be free?" he asked.
Viviana gulped. "I am your wife," she said. "If your enemies get you, I won’t be safe either."
Leander scoffed. Finally, she got what this life is all about. "You could have waited for them to track me. Why did you call me?" he asked.
"They said no one who works for you had permission to use that phone unless it was an emergency. I...do not work for you. I am your wife," she said. Her eyes lit up. For the first time in the entire conversation, he saw a change in her expression.
How slow is she?
Leander sighed. He almost forgot that he shouted at Katerina a year back for calling him from that phone. Thinking back, he hadn’t received a call from that number for a very long time.
But isn’t he telling her that she is his wife at least once a day? It took her this many days and his disappearance to realize that. But what is she doing now? He could see that she had a plan.
"You meant it when you said that I am your wife," she walked closer to him. The door was still unlocked.
"Why would I say something I don’t mean?" he looked at her.
She stood closer to him. He cleared his throat. She is acting weird.
"You want everyone to believe that I am your wife, Kastello. I am just not your prisoner. I am your wife now," her voice deepened, and her eyes swirled with a dark glint.
Ah, she has planned something.
"I can revoke all your privileges just with a word," he warned.
