Chapter 378: Unexpected Meeting
"Oh, hello," Clyde said casually, a small smile playing on his lips.
He hadn’t expected Uriel to show up now. From the fiery wings ablaze behind her, the hard-set expression on her face, and the fury burning in her eyes, Clyde knew one thing for sure—Archangel Uriel was very, very pissed.
But anger wasn’t the only thing she felt. Despair, guilt, and sorrow weighed heavily on her. And now, seeing Clyde casually stepping out of her domain only made those emotions surge a hundredfold.
"What have you done?" Uriel growled, her tone carrying the low, menacing edge of a beast about to pounce on its prey.
Clyde shrugged. "I was just passing by. But this place looked abandoned, so I figured I might as well salvage something from it."
Uriel’s eyes widened, the flames in them flaring even brighter. "What do you mean? You stole my artifact?!"
"It’s not stealing if the owner isn’t home," Clyde replied smoothly.
Before he could say anything else, Uriel shot forward at full speed, fire trailing behind her. Every step she took left the ground scorched and crumbling into ash.
BOOM!
A deafening explosion erupted as Uriel crashed through the wall of her own building, aiming to strike Clyde before he could react. With her speed, she was certain he wouldn’t be able to dodge.
But she was wrong.
Clyde evaded just in time, landing a few meters away while Uriel now stood inside the ruined building.
Then—
"AAAAAHHHHH!!!"
A scream of pure agony tore through the air.
Uriel had seen what Clyde had done to her followers.
The mutilated corpses lay before her, their lifeless bodies a testament to their suffering. The guilt of abandoning her domain, of ignoring their desperate pleas for protection, now crushed her.
But all that pain quickly twisted into rage.
Her burning gaze locked onto Clyde, the intruder, the one who trespassed upon her domain—again. And without a doubt, the one who had slaughtered her people.
Seething with wrath, Uriel burst through the crumbling white wall, her divine flames raging wildly around her. As soon as she was outside, she spotted Clyde soaring into the sky, trying to escape.
"I won’t let you run!"
Determined to avenge her fallen followers, Uriel ignited her entire body in a blazing inferno, her wings flaring wide before she launched herself into the air after him.
Clyde felt the searing heat approaching fast. He immediately twisted to the side just as a concentrated beam of fire—like a blazing spear—shot past him, barely missing his back.
Even with his new coat reducing damage and his demon power resisting Uriel’s divine flames, he wasn’t willing to take the risk of getting hit. She was, after all, an Archangel.
In a blink, Uriel was upon him. She swung her flaming sword straight at him.
CLANG!
Clyde had already drawn his own sword, meeting her strike head-on.
The air rippled, and a shockwave of energy burst outward as their opposing powers collided.
Clyde and Uriel then clashed in the air, their swords colliding in a furious storm of sparks and energy.
Uriel’s flaming blade struck with incredible force, each swing backed by raw fury, while Clyde met every strike with equal precision and power, his upgraded Elderglass Sword holding firm against the assault.
Uriel knew that Clyde wasn’t weak, she had learned that much from their previous encounters. Which was why this time she refused to hold back.
The sky trembled with the force of their battle. Every time divine steel met the glass-like edge of Clyde’s evolving sword, shockwaves burst outward, distorting the air with rippling energy.
Trails of fire and glowing embers swirled around them, painting the sky with the lingering marks of their relentless duel.
Then, without warning, Uriel’s entire body erupted in flame, her form blazing like a miniature sun.
The sudden explosion of light was blinding—too intense to bear.
Clyde’s eyes burned from the sheer radiance, and instinct took over. He clenched them shut, unable to see.
Uriel seized the opening.
With a furious roar, she unleashed a torrent of divine fire straight at him. The searing flames struck his body like a meteor, blasting him downward to the ground.
Clyde crashed into the ground with an impact that shook the earth, dust and debris exploding in all directions.
But Uriel didn’t stop.
Hovering above, her expression twisted in rage, she extended her palm, unleashing another stream of blazing fire upon him.
The air shimmered with heat as the relentless inferno rained down, turning the ground into a scorched wasteland with Clyde in its middle.
A sudden eruption of Demon energy burst from Clyde, clashing violently against Uriel’s divine flames. The sheer force of it split the air with a thunderous roar, sending waves of heat rippling across the battlefield.
Uriel’s eyes widened in momentary surprise—but only for a second. She already knew Clyde could handle that kind of power. She had seen it before. But even so, watching him stand firm against her relentless flames, completely unyielding, stirred something deep within her.
Below, Clyde planted his feet firmly on the scorched ground, his Elderglass Sword raised high. The translucent blade shimmered with otherworldly glow, resisting the inferno pouring down on him.
His coat held, the fabric struggling against the searing heat, but it looks fine. His expression remained calm and focused.
Uriel gritted her teeth and poured even more power into the flames, determined to break through his defense.
The sky above blazed, her entire form wreathed in golden fire as she intensified her assault. The land beneath Clyde cracked, melting into molten veins from the sheer heat.
With a slow, deliberate movement, Clyde raised his free hand. The Demonic energy around him surged, coiling like a living force, before violently exploding outward.
BOOM!
The wave of dark power surged upward, colliding head-on with Uriel’s firestorm. The impact sent shockwaves across the sky, dispersing clouds and shaking the air.
The moment her flames met his abyssal energy, they did not snuff each other out—instead, they twisted and churned, battling for dominance.
