Chapter 342: Not Enough

Chapter 342: Not Enough

Clyde could only stand frozen in place, stunned by what he had just heard from the monster. It was just a random creature in a random ruin—one he had chosen because this place was where the anomaly had appeared for the second time. He thought he might find something here.

Turns out, his instincts were right—he did find something. A name... or something similar to that. Was it truly a name, or was it the designation of some mysterious being? Clyde couldn’t be sure.

He took a deep breath, inhaling the dry air of the ruined desert, then exhaled slowly.

"Calm down," he told himself. "First, I need to pull myself together. For some reason, just hearing that name makes my head feel heavy. That alone convinces me it’s no ordinary name."

Even now, Clyde wasn’t sure if he could bring himself to utter that name again—not even in his mind. But he knew he wouldn’t be able to forget it.

Focusing his thoughts, he even had to channel his magic power into his mind just to stop thinking about that name—at least for now. Fortunately, it worked, and the weight in his head eased.

Clyde then activated [Flight] again, soaring into the sky to search for more monsters. Unfortunately, none were within close proximity to the one he had just slain, so he had to venture farther.

After flying for some distance, Clyde finally spotted another group of monsters.

"For now, let’s focus on leveling up while thinking," he muttered.

He dived down, landing in the middle of the monster cluster with a thunderous impact that sent them flying. Some were even killed outright from the sheer force of his landing because he also activating his [Pure Lightning] skill.

Wasting no time, Clyde swung his Elderglass sword in precise, deadly arcs, cutting through the creatures with remarkable efficiency and killing several monsters in a single strike.

The creatures surrounding him were grotesque things that already perfectly adapted to the wasteland filled with chaotis magic power.

Their bodies were covered in jagged sand-colored exoskeletons, blending seamlessly with the dunes. Some had elongated limbs tipped with razor-sharp claw while others had multiple eyes gleaming like polished amber, watching Clyde with predatory hunger.

A few of the monster slithered on segmented bodies, their flesh cracked and dry, as if the desert itself had given them life.

Then one of them — a hulking beast with a head resembling a cracked sandstone boulder — let out a gurgling roar. Its mouth split open in three jagged sections, revealing rows of serrated teeth that looked capable of grinding through bone.

It lunged at Clyde with startling speed, its clawed arms swinging down at him.

Clyde sidestepped with his incredible agility, his body flickering like lightning as he evaded the attack. The impact of the beast’s attack sent a shockwave through the sand, sending a small dust storm into the air. But before the creature could recover Clyde strt attacking back.

With a single move, he drove his Elderglass sword forward, piercing straight through the monster’s thick hide.

The blade didn’t just cut but it disintegrated everything in its path. A burst of white-hot lightning surged from the point of impact, coursing through the creature’s body and reducing it to charred remnants in an instant.

The remaining monsters hesitated. Their primitive instincts registering Clyde as something far beyond their usual prey. But hunger or perhaps some deeper like primal compulsion to destroy and eat, pushed them forward anyway.

A pack of lean canine-like creatures with skeletal faces and sand-dusted fur runing toward him from multiple directions. Their scythe-like tails slashed through the air as they lunged, aiming to tear into him from all angles.

Clyde twisted his grip on his sword. His magic surged through his veins. Then he vanished from their sight.

The moment his feet touched the ground again, he was behind them. The monsters froze mid-motion then, without warning, deep slashes appeared across their bodies.

Blood sprayed into the air as their segmented limbs collapsed beneath them. Clyde had cut through them all in a single instant, his blade moving too fast for the eye to follow.

A sudden tremor rumbled through the sand and Clyde turned to see the last creature. It was a massive centipede-like beast that rising from beneath the desert floor.

Its body was covered in hardened chitin, its legs tipped with venomous barbs that gleamed under the harsh sunlight. With an ear-piercing shriek it lunged at Clyde, its mandibles snapping toward him.

Clyde didn’t flinch.

He raised his hand, gathering energy into his palm. Sparks danced around his fingertips, crackling and surging violently. As the creature get close to him, he thrust his hand forward, releasing a concentrated bolt of lightning directly into its gaping maw.

The air split apart with a deafening boom.

The lightning tore through the beast’s insides, illuminating its translucent body from within.

Its screech turned into a distorted howl of agony before it exploded in a flash of blinding white , scattering burning fragments across the sands.

Silence followed. The desert wind carried away the remains, leaving nothing but Clyde standing amidst the carnage, his sword humming softly.

He let out a long breath.

[You Leveled Up.]

"This is still not enough," he muttered. His level was 201 now,

Then, without hesitation, he turned his gaze to the horizon, already searching for his next hunt.

Archangel Michael had just returned from the dimension of blackness after several days. He had needed time to recover and gather more energy for himself after expending it to infuse the ancient god’s power into Kassiel, Elsa, and Aeralyn.

He ran a hand through his long black hair before settling into the nearest chair. With a simple wave of his hand, the mirror that had served as his doorway unraveled into shards of black glass, which then drifted down and vanished into the floor.

Michael smiled softly, realizing that the plan had progressed far more smoothly than he had anticipated. With this, the Ancient One’s resurrection would become even easier.
