Chapter 339: Worrying Conversation
Chapter 339: Worrying Conversation
The room fell into a heavy silence.
The weight of Graemory’s words settled between them, pressing down like an invisible force in their minds.
There was no exaggeration and definitely no misplaced fear, this was a real deal. The Black Wall, a structure that had always been an enigma was stirring to wake. Something was coming and neither of them knew what it would bring.
Clyde finally broke the silence. "Do the others know about the anomaly?"
Graemory shook her head. "No one except us. And the ones who went with you to fight it."
Her voice was steady, but there was something underneath it — something close to worry. That alone was alarming.
Graemory was not easily shaken and Clyde knew that. She was a Demon Duchess, someone from Hell realm who stood against Celestials and Angels without fear because she always have something hidden in her sleeve. Yet now, she was standing before him with tense and uncertainty feeling.
She was trying to hide it but Clyde could see it clearly.
Graemory’s thoughts raced as she turned away slightly, her crimson eyes dark with contemplation.
The Black Wall is moving. But what does that mean? What is it waking up and wanted to do?
She had always known that the Black Wall was not a simple barrier. It was not just a place where monsters emerged, it was something deeper and contain something older. But until now no one had ever truly understand its nature. They simply fought what came through and assumed that was all they needed to know.
Now, that thing has becoming a threat.
First, strange anomalies appeared in the Ruins. Then, the black substance taken from it was somehow still alive after getting some magic energy. And now, the they knew that its energy was identical to that of the creatures from the Black Wall.
If this pattern continued, whatever came next would be worse. Much worse.
Her gaze shifted back to Clyde. He was the unknown factor.
The anomaly had spoken to him as if they recognized him. That was not normal. No one, not Demons, Celestials, or Angels, had ever claimed to communicate with those things. Yet Clyde had.
And if the Black Wall was waking up... Was it because of him?
Her fingers curled slightly. What is he actually?
The thought came unbidden, heavy with suspicion and curiosity. She had seen Clyde fight and seen his power grow in ways that defied logic. He was strong but more than that, he was different.
The System he possessed, the way he adapted, the way even anomalies acknowledged him... It all pointed to something she couldn’t quite grasp yet.
But one thing was certain. If the Black Wall was truly waking up, then Clyde might be the key to understanding why. So she must keep close to him.
The silence stretched between them, heavy with unspoken thoughts.
Clyde sighed sharply and sitting on the bed, resting his elbows on his knees. The weight of everything was beginning to press down on him in ways he hadn’t quite processed yet. The Black Wall, the anomaly, the System, it was all connected. And somehow, he was at the center of it.
Graemory hesitated for a moment before sitting beside him, her presence solid and grounding despite the storm of uncertainty raging in both their minds.
"I just met one of the World Masters," Clyde said, breaking the silence.
Graemory’s eyes snapped to him, her frown deepening. "What?"
There was a rare sharpness in her tone.
"How?" she demanded. "Did you... enter a world that’s still in the Selection Stage?"
"Yes." Clyde said. "It doesn’t matter how. What matters is I met one of them... and she told me something."
Graemory studied his face carefully, but Clyde wasn’t looking at her. His gaze was distant, fixed on some point beyond the room and beyond this moment.
"She told me that the System itself was not made by them. Or by the Angels, Celestials, or Demons." He turned his head slightly, watching her reaction. "Did you know that?"
Graemory stiffened, her crimson eyes narrowing.
She opened her mouth to respond, then closed it again. A second passed before she finally admitted, "No. I didn’t know."
A rare confession.
Clyde could tell this revelation had shaken her. Not visibly — Graemory was too composed for that — but beneath the surface, there was something in her expression, in the slight tightening of her fingers against her lap, that showing her worry.
"I never questioned it," she admitted. "No one did. We just used it. The System made it easier to assimilate power into mundane humans, so we accepted it. But if it wasn’t created by the known factions..."
She trailed off, the implications sinking in.
Clyde leaned back slightly, watching her process this information.
So even she didn’t know.
That meant this knowledge was limited, only he, Agatha, and now Graemory, were aware of it. And if the World Masters weren’t the true creators of the System, then who was?
A silence settled over them again, though this time it was no longer tense. It was the silence of realization, of pieces falling into place.
Clyde took a breath. "There’s more."
Graemory shifted slightly, turning her full attention to him.
"My System changed after I encountered the anomaly," he said. "It’s different now. I don’t know how much yet, but... I think it’s reacting to something. And if the Black Wall is waking up, and my System is changing..." He let out a slow breath. "Then I have some kind of connection to it."
Graemory’s eyes darkened, her sharp gaze locked onto him. She didn’t immediately respond.
Because what was there to say?
The pieces were fitting together, but the picture they formed was something neither of them fully understood.
Finally, after a long moment, Graemory spoke. Her voice was quieter than before, but her words carried weight.
"We need to find out what that connection is."
Clyde just nodded. He already knew that. The only question now was how?
Graemory crossed her arms, her gaze flickering with determination.
"I’ll try to look for answers in my realm. There might be something in the archives, or perhaps someone who knows more than they let on."
Clyde nodded again in silence and just watching her carefully. Even as a Demon Duchess, she didn’t have all the answers. That alone was unsettling.
"Meanwhile," she continued, "you should go looking for information by... whatever it is you always do."
A smirk tugged at the corner of Clyde’s lips. "That makes it sound like I have some kind of reckless habit."
Graemory gave him a pointed look. "Because you do."
Clyde let out a low chuckle but didn’t argue. She wasn’t exactly wrong.
He leaned back slightly, letting his thoughts settle before asking, "Do you think we should keep this between us? Or do we need to tell the others?"
Graemory didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she pressed her fingers against her temple, thinking. The weight of the situation was immense. This is too big for just the two of them to carry.
After a long pause, she finally spoke. "I think the others should know. In fact, all of them should know. If the Black Wall is waking up, then they need to prepare for whatever is coming next. We can’t afford to keep them in the dark because this is a big problem."
Clyde didn’t respond right away. He considered her words, weighing the risks. He agreed that they couldn’t handle this alone, but there was one problem, he couldn’t let them know where the information came from.
After a moment, he exhaled. "I agree. But they can’t know the source of the information."
Graemory’s expression didn’t change, but he could tell she had already come to the same conclusion.
"You’re right. Of course I knew that," she said. "If word gets out that you were the one who spoke with the anomaly or that your System is changing, it will draw the wrong kind of attention to you and me. From all sides."
Celestials, Angels, Demons, none of them would ignore something like this. And Clyde wasn’t ready to deal with whatever that would bring.
"So we make sure the information reaches the right people," Graemory continued. "But we keep your involvement out of it."
Clyde nodded. That would be the safest route. Now, they just had to act on it.
Graemory left soon after, vanishing into the shadows to return to her domain. Clyde remained in his room, staring at the ceiling, thoughts churning.
The Black Wall. The System. His connection to it all. He exhaled sharply and stood. Sitting around wouldn’t give him answers. It was time to look for Exp again to strengthen himself.
He donned his gear, fastening his sword in place. Then, gripping the amulet, he activated it. A cold pulse of energy appeared in front of him, and he step into it.
In an instant, he was gone and warped into a Ruin, a dead world erased by the apocalypse.
