Chapter 332: In An Intact World

Chapter 332: In An Intact World

Clyde exhaled slowly with steady breath as he prepared himself. He had spent seven days modifying the amulet and now, when the next day came, it was time to put it to the test.

Before anything else, he decided to refresh himself.

He took a short bath, letting the warm water wash away the exhaustion clinging to him. Afterward, he dressed in his usual attire, something practical yet durable, ready for whatever awaited him on the other side of the portal.

Once dressed, he made his way to the dining hall, where the mansion’s servants had already prepared breakfast for him. He ate quickly, not paying much attention to the taste. His mind was elsewhere, locked onto the task ahead.

Before returning to his room, he spoke to one of the servants.

"I won’t be disturbed for a while," Clyde said.

The servant nodded, bowing slightly. "Understood, my lord."

Without another word, Clyde turned away and made his way back, shutting the door behind him. He locked it, ensuring no one would interrupt him.

Now, it was time.

He sat on the floor, placing the Transporter Amulet in front of him. The dark metal pulsed faintly, filled with the energy he had forced into it over the past week. Taking a deep breath, he reached out and channeled his magic power into the amulet.

The moment his energy touched it, the amulet trembled. It was as if it recognized what was happening and resonating with his power. But it was clear that activating it required an immense amount of energy.

A normal person – someone like Samuel, or Leyan even — would never be able to do this. Their magic reserves would deplete long before the amulet could fully activate.

But Clyde wasn’t normal.

He had more than enough magic power to sustain the process, so he didn’t hesitate. He kept pushing his energy into the amulet, his grip tightening as it began to shake violently. The air around him shimmered, growing heavy with magic energy.

Five minutes passed. The strain was noticeable, but Clyde remained steady. Then, at last, the amulet responded.

A portal tore open before him.

It was different from the ones he had seen before. The edges flickered with instability as if reality itself was uncertain about its existence. The swirling vortex pulsed with chaotic energy unlike the stable pathways he had used before.

But what lay beyond the portal made him feels the relief.

On the other side, he could see a world still intact. A city that still untouched by too much destruction.

This was it. A Selection Stage world that maybe still in early progress.

Clyde stepped forward and passed through the portal.

The moment he stepped into the portal, an overwhelming sensation hit him. It felt as if his body was being pulled apart in multiple directions at once. The force wasn’t just trying to transport him but it was twisting, stretching, and distorting him, as though he was being unraveled at a fundamental level.

"Just like I thought. This new portal won’t be smooth sailing."

Gritting his teeth, he refused to let the unstable passage disorient him. Without hesitation he called upon his magic and wrapping his body in [Pure Lightning]. The crackling energy surged through him, forming a protective barrier that stabilized his form within the chaotic vortex.

The pulling sensation didn’t disappear completely, but it lessened. His body that now reinforced by the lightning, stopped twisting as violently. He pushed forward, enduring the turbulence until he broke through.

A sharp gust of wind greeted him as he emerged on the other side. The world before him was strikingly familiar. A city of glass and concrete, towering skyscrapers reflecting the morning sunlight, streets lined with vehicles and signs, all the hallmarks of a modern civilization.

But Clyde’s eyes weren’t on the city itself. He instinctively looked up, and there it was.

A crack in the sky.

Dark, jagged, and spreading ever so slightly, as if something on the other side was clawing its way in. That single fracture in reality confirmed his suspicions. The Selection Stage had begun in this world.

He was in the right place.

Taking a quick glance at his surroundings, he realized he had arrived in a narrow alleyway, the damp pavement beneath him littered with discarded trash.

He didn’t stay long. Activating his [Flight] skill, Clyde shot upward, leaving behind a brief spark of lightning as he ascended.

The city stretched out beneath him as he soared higher. From above, he could see the streets packed with people. Citizens who still going about their lives, unaware of what was coming. Unlike the world he usually went to, this one was still intact. No signs of collapse yet.

But it wouldn’t stay that way for long.

Clyde narrowed his eyes, scanning the area. He needed to locate the World Master quick.

Clyde hovered above the city, his coat billowing in the wind as he surveyed the landscape below. A few people caught sight of him. Some pointed in shock, their expressions frozen in disbelief, but most remained unaware.

Even those who did see him would likely dismiss it as a trick of the light or their imagination. After all, who would believe a man in a black coat was flying above the city?

His gaze swept across the skyline, searching.

"Where is it? Why hasn’t it started—"

Before the thought could fully form, reality itself answered.

Across the city, rifts tore open. One by one, they appeared. Some splitting the pavement in the middle of crowded streets, others ripping through the walls of office buildings and apartment complexes. They were the jagged fractures of glowing light, like wounds in the fabric of the world, exposing the abyss beyond.

Then, the voice came. The voice that sounds cold, mechanical, and absolute.

[THE WORLD YOU KNOW WILL END IN SIX DAYS.]

A universal announcement happened. The Selection Stage had officially begun.

Down below, chaos start to erupt. The streets filled with cries of confusion and panic.

People stopped in their tracks, their faces pale with shock. Some clutched their heads, unable to process what they had just heard, while others scrambled for their phones, desperate for an explanation that wouldn’t come.

Clyde, on the other hand, smiled.

It was a strange feeling, nostalgic even.

He had heard this announcement before. He had seen the same reactions, watched as ordinary people went from disbelief to horror, then to desperation. The cycle always played out the same way. And yet, each new world still held its own story.

His amusement faded slightly as his focus sharpened.

The next part was crucial. The World Master should make an appearance soon either openly or from the shadows.

He let his lightning crackle softly around him, then shot forward, weaving between the skyscrapers as he hunted for the first signs of power.

His eyes scanning the unfolding disaster below. The chaos had truly begun now. Monsters were pouring out of the rifts, clawing their way into this world.

Screams filled the air. People ran in every direction, some frozen in terror, others desperately trying to escape the creatures that emerged from the cracks in reality.

A massive insectoid beast slammed down onto a car, crushing it like paper. Its chitinous limbs twitched as it turned toward a nearby group of people that now paralyzed by fear.

A different monster, vaguely humanoid but with elongated limbs and jagged bone protrusions, grabbed a fleeing man and tore him apart in one motion.

Blood painted the pavement as more creatures flooded through the rifts, hunger gleaming in their hollow eyes.

Clyde watched from above, indifferent at first.

It was always like this. The moment the Selection Stage began, the weak would suffer. The ones who were too slow, too hesitant, or too naïve were always the first to die.

And yet...

His gaze lingered for a moment too long. A mother shielding her child behind a fallen signpost. A man swinging a metal pipe at a creature twice his size, knowing he had no chance but still refusing to run.

Clyde sighed. He had power. He didn’t owe them anything but at the same time, wiping out a few monsters wouldn’t cost him anything either.

He dove downward.

The moment he touched the ground, a pulse of lightning spread from his feet, stunning the creatures closest to him. They twitched violently, their bodies locking up as if caught in an unseen force. Clyde didn’t stop moving.

A monster lunged. Clyde caught its throat with one hand and crushed it. The creature convulsed before its body disintegrated into nothing.

Another beast swung a massive claw. Clyde stepped forward and tore its arm off. The monster barely had time to react before he sent a sharp jab into its skull, shattering it instantly.

He didn’t even need to unsheathe his Elderglass Sword. There was no point. These things were too slow and weak. His bare hands were more than enough.

In a blur, he moved from target to target, ripping through the creatures with precise, effortless strikes. Lightning crackled around him.

The people who had been moments away from death could only watch, stunned.

When the last creature fell, silence hung in the air. The civilians who had survived were breathing heavily, some clutching at their wounds, others simply staring at Clyde in disbelief.

Then, someone spoke.

"Thank you..." A man in a torn business suit said with shaking voice. Others soon followed, murmuring their gratitude, some openly weeping in relief.

Clyde glanced at them.

"Don’t thank me," he said, his tone flat. "If you want to live, find the Checkpoint."

Confused looks passed between them.

"The what?" someone asked.

Clyde exhaled sharply. Of course, they wouldn’t know about it yet.

"A safe zone. Find it, and you’ll have a chance to survive."

That was all he said before turning away.

He had more important things to do. The World Master was somewhere in this city, and Clyde wasn’t about to waste any more time.

With a single step, he launched himself back into the sky.
