Chapter 330: Staying For Now
Chapter 330: Staying For Now
Clyde finally saw the floating landmass holding the mansion that stood in stark contrast to the fragmented world around it. Unlike the other shattered islands that drifted unevenly, twisting and tilting in the air as if they might crumble at any moment, this landmass floated perfectly level as if unseen pillars were holding it in place.
It was stable. As if untouched by the chaotic forces that had reduced the rest of this world to ruins.
The mansion itself was imposing. It wasn’t a grand and shining palace but rather a dark gothic structure with high spired rooftops and walls that seemed to have withstood countless ages.
Blackened stone reinforced with strange runes that shining faintly with crimson light formed its foundation. Its windows were narrow and elongated.
Around the mansion, clusters of floating landmasses formed a natural perimeter, covered in twisted forests and dense bushes.
As Graemory and Clyde moved closer, the trees and foliage parted on their own, shifting like living things that obeyed an unseen command. The passage they created led directly to the grand entrance of the mansion, where tall dark gates loomed before them.
Graemory gestured toward the structure with a faint smile.
"This will be your home for now," she said. "this is a sanctuary that hidden away from prying eyes."
Clyde looking aroun his surroundings. There was no doubt that this place has some security measure.
"There is a barrier surrounding this landmass," Graemory continued with her smooth and confident voice. "It will mask your presence from anyone who might be searching for you. Even Asmodeus’ eyes will not reach here."
Clyde processing her words. He had been hunted by Asmodeus bbefore and now after he took his artifact, Clyde was certain Asmodeus will search for him even more eagerly. He knew how relentless those in power could be when they wanted something. But here, he could disappear for a while.
She turned toward the mansion’s gates and with a simple motion of her fingers, they groaned open, revealing a long pathway leading to the entrance.
The air beyond carried a stillness that felt different from the rest of the ruined world. It feels calmer.
"And my knights will stand guard," Graemory added.
At her words, figures emerged from the shifting shadows.
Tall, armored warriors clad in blackened steel and adorned with crimson insignias stepped forward in perfect unison. Their presence was cold and undeniably lethal.
Some bore long curved swords with edges that shimmered in the dim light. Others carried polearms, their bladed tips crackling faintly. Their faces were hidden behind helmets, revealing only the faint glow of their eyes.
"These knights serve me," Graemory said. "And now, they will protect you."
Clyde met the gaze of the nearest knight and think. These were not mere human soldiers who had gained power.
They were beings forged in the depths of battle and already bound by an unbreakable contract to serve their mistress, Graemory, the Demon Duchess, by some meaning that could possibly be a deception.
"Even if something does manage to break through the barrier, they will ensure that nothing touches you without my permission," Graemory said.
Clyde gave her a long measured look at the knights.
"This is a lot of protection," he said.
Graemory smiled and said, "It’s not just the creatures here that concern me. There are greater forces moving to get you Clyde. Its not just the forces that do not belong to this realms but also the Demon King, and the others."
Her words lingered in the air, heavy with unspoken meaning.
Clyde said nothing, but he understood.
Without another word, he stepped forward, passing through the gates and toward the mansion. The knights bowed slightly as he walked past, acknowledging him without question.
Clyde paused at the entrance of the mansion, glancing back when he noticed Graemory wasn’t following him.
She remained standing outside, her crimson gaze fixed beyond the floating landmass as if she were already contemplating something far beyond their immediate surroundings.
"You’re not coming?" Clyde asked.
"No," Graemory replied. "I still have something to do. There are disturbances in the Hell Realms, something is happening and I need to see what it is."
Clyde studied her for a moment. Then he nodded. "Alright."
Graemory gave him one last look before turning, she vanishing into a swirl of opened portal. The moment she disappeared, a strange silence settled over the area.
Clyde exhaled and turned back toward the mansion. The gates behind him closed with a deep groan, sealing him inside this isolated refuge.
He made his way across the long corridor leading deeper into the structure. The interior was just as grand as the exterior.
Dark stone walls lined with ornate crimson banners stretched along the hallways. Chandeliers cast light that barely pushed away the gloom.
The air smelled faintly of aged wood, parchment, and the faintest hint of burning incense. The place felt untouched as if it had been sitting here for ages, waiting for an occupant.
Clyde walked deeper into the mansion, passing a few side doors before finding one that opened into a bedroom. He don’t think too much and immediately decided that he will take it.
The chamber was large though not unnecessarily extravagant. A high arched ceiling loomed abov and a massive canopy bed sat against the wall with its sheets untouched.
A wardrobe stood near the corner and there were also a lone, floor-length mirror reflected Clyde’s figure as he stepped inside.
He walked toward the bed and sat on the edge.
Clyde leaned forward and resting his elbows on his knees as he stared at the dimly lit room. He would stay here for now to hide away from prying eyes.
The worlds outside was definitely shifting right now, and with Asmodeus hunting him, stepping into the open was too dangerous.
Yet, something about his System felt different. He hadn’t had the chance to fully examine. Perhaps now was the time. If there were changes he needed to understand them.
Until the chaos settled, he would remain here, learn what he could, and prepare for whatever came next.
