Chapter 322: Not Eager

The storm raged on as Uriel and Gabriel rushed outside the tent.

Their troops had already fortified their position, forming defensive lines with shields raised and weapons drawn.

Rain from the dark sky pelted their armor, but none wavered as they faced the encroaching enemy.

On the other side of the battlefield, the Demon army stood in disciplined ranks, their monstrous forms barely shifting despite the wind and rain.

At their head, as always, was Zaradorn, General of Demon King Belial. His presence was unmistakable. He wearing the heavy jagged armor fused to his flesh, his burning crimson eyes scanning the field like a predator and the massive greatsword resting against his shoulder, still stained with old blood.

But it wasn’t just the Demons watching them.

Behind the enemy lines, standing apart from both factions, were the Celestials clad in radiant aura yet distant and cold. Their auras flickered like mirages.

Uriel can see Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom and War, stood at the forefront, her golden spear planted firmly in the ground.

Not far from her was Anubis, the Guardian of the Dead who observed the scene with his jackal-like face that was so hard to read.

Their gazes locked onto Uriel and Gabriel, suspicion clear in their eyes. Just like the other Celestials

The Celestials had been watching and waiting, expecting the Archangels to do something behind their back once again. Their presence alone made it clear: they would not be ignored this time.

Then Zaradorn’s deep and gravelly voice cut through the downpour like a blade.

"Archangels. I know the scouts you sent have already returned." His crimson gaze flickered toward the tent behind them. "Let’s not waste time. Show us what you found beyond the Black Wall."

The demand was not just from the Demons. The Celestials, too, took a step forward, their pressure filling the battlefield.

The tension between the three factions thickened, pressing down on Uriel and Gabriel like an iron weight.

Gabriel’s fingers curled into fists. He didn’t need to look at Uriel to know she was just as frustrated as he was. Maybe even more.

They weren’t ready to reveal what they had seen because they themselves haven’t even certain what that was.

But now who standing before them were two forces that would not take silence for an answer.

Uriel’s fingers tightened around the hilt of her sword, her knuckles turning white as frustration burned inside her.

The Demons never knew when to stop. Always watching and always interfering. And now the Celestials had joined them to pressing their weight onto a situation they had no right to control.

Her golden eyes burned with irritation as she glared at Zaradorn, then at Athena, Anubis, and thw rest of the Celestials present here. If they thought they could just demand answers and could force the Archangels to reveal something so uncertain, they were mistaken.

Her grip on the sword hilt tightened even more, rain dripping from her gauntlets. If they wanted a fight, she would give them one.

But a firm hand suddenly grasped her arm. Gabriel.

His grip wasn’t harsh, but the silent message in his sharp gaze was unmistakable. Not now.

Uriel clenched her jaw, grinding her teeth as her fury simmered beneath her skin. But she didn’t pull away.

She knew Gabriel was right. If she struck first it would spark something that none of them were prepared to handle for now.

She inhaled sharply, forcing herself to release her grip. Her hand trembled slightly as she withdrew from her sword, but she kept her glare locked onto the gathered enemies before her.

"If I deal with them, I’ll just cut them down," she muttered under her breath. "You handle this!"

Gabriel sighed before nodding. He had already known this would fall to him. Between the two of them, he was the only one here who could manage this delicate precarious balance.

Stepping forward, Gabriel met Zaradorn’s gaze first. The Demon General didn’t flinch, but he also didn’t move to attack. Then Gabriel turned to Athena and Anubis, both Celestials standing waiting.

They expected an answer.

Gabriel squared his shoulders and spoke, his voice carrying through the storm.

"We found something beyond the Black Wall," he admitted, carefully measuring his words. "Something that neither us, Celestial nor Demon magic can explain." His gaze hardened. "Something older than us."

The rain poured harder as his words settled over the battlefield.

The Celestials exchanged glances, confused expressions flickering across their faces.

Zaradorn’s fingers twitched against his greatsword. He was interested and curious.

Athena narrowed her eyes, tilting her head slightly.

"Older?" she repeated. "Older than us?"

Gabriel held her gaze but did not answer immediately. Instead, he lifted his hand and with careful precision, pulled out the chipped fragment from his coat. The runes on its surface shimmered, shifting erratically even in the dim light of the storm.

A pulse of energy rippled through the air. It wasn’t Celestial. It wasn’t Demonic.

And everyone on that battlefield felt it.

Zaradorn took an instinctive step back, his crimson eyes narrowing as the runes on the fragment pulsed again, sending another ripple through the air. His grip on his greatsword tightened, his gauntlet creaking under the pressure.

"What is that?!" he demanded, his deep voice edged with something rare, fear.

Gabriel didn’t react to the Demon General’s outburst. He held the fragment steady, letting its strange energy linger between them. The battlefield felt eerily silent.

"This is what my scouts retrieved from the Black Wall," Gabriel said. His tone was even, but there was weight behind his words.

Uriel shot him a sharp look, her golden eyes glinting in the rain. She leaned in slightly lowering her voice.

"You really wanted to show them that?" Her tone was flat, but Gabriel knew her well enough to hear the restrained frustration beneath it.

"We have no choice," Gabriel murmured back, his gaze never leaving the gathered forces. "If we want to stop the war from happening, we need them to understand the real threat so we can unify our forces."

Uriel scoffed but didn’t argue. She had already expected this, even if she hated it.

The Celestials and Demons, however, had no such restraint.

Athena and Anubis exchanged glances. Their confidence was shaken, their stances slightly tenser than before.

Zaradorn’s forces shifted uneasily, their monstrous forms twitching as if sensing something unnatural. Even the Demons seemed unnerved by the fragment’s presence.

No one spoke.

But for the first time, neither Celestial nor Demon seemed eager for more knowledge.
