Chapter 309: A Stake
Clyde descended toward the clump of monsters like a wrathful comet. His body wreathed in golden radiance and swirling currents of ethereal water. His body wrapped in armor of pure energy that burned bright.
The power of his Angelic power that he usurp from the Nexus merging seamlessly with the fluid might of [Tidebreaker] skill. The air around him shimmered as steam and divine force clashed in perfect harmony. Clyde right now was a force of nature descending upon his enemies without mercy.
The gathered monsters sensed his approach, their glowing molten eyes snapping upward in unison. For a brief moment there was hesitation because of their primal recognition of a power greater than their own. But by then, it was too late.
A blinding flash erupted across the battlefield as Clyde crashed into their midst.
BOOM!
The impact shook the earth, sending cracks spiderwebbing through the scorched ground. A wave of golden mist and clear blue energy exploded outward in an expanding shockwave.
The combination of holy might and [Tidebreaker]’s overwhelming water force created an unstoppable surge. A tidal eruption of pure destruction was happening right now.
The creatures that were born from withstanding Asmodeus’s fire didn’t stand a chance.
The one that nearest of the impact were obliterated instantly. Their molten bodies that forged in Demonic infernal heat for centuries met an overwhelming force of purifying water and divine energy.
The effect was catastrophic for them. Steam burst from their very cores, their bodies solidifying and cracking in an instant before shattering into useless fragments.
Those just beyond the immediate blast were thrown back violently. Some crashed into jagged rock formations, their bodies struggling to hold shape as their internal heat was forcefully extinguished.
Others convulsed as the holy energy coursed through them, purging the Demonic essence that sustained their existence. Their molten flesh hardened unnaturally, cooling into lifeless husks before they crumbled to dust.
However, not all of them were destroyed.
The larger and stronger monsters resisted the impact. Their cores burning hot enough to withstand the devastation — though not without injury.
Their once blazing body flickered unsteadily now. Their molten veins dimming as their fire was forcefully dampened. They roared in fury and pain, struggling to re-ignite their power.
Clyde wasted no time.
He surged forward and already using his Elderglass sword to cut through the thick mist still lingering from the explosion. His eyes locked onto the monsters survivors — their bodies now sluggish and their fire still struggling to reignite because his Angel power still shining brightly.
This was his advantage.
His water-infused aura pulsed again, and with a single step, he shot toward the nearest wounded creature.
Clyde didn’t want to wasted any time.
His Elderglass sword gleamed with power right now. The blade crackling with the fused might of Angelic energy and the relentless surge of water skill. Every inch of the glass like blade pulsed with powerful force, shimmering between a brilliant gold and the shifting blues of an endless ocean.
His first slash carved clean through the nearest molten monster before it could even react and severing it from shoulder to hip in a single move. Steam and molten embers erupted from the wound but the holy water clinging to his blade extinguished the remnants of its Demonic flame before they could spread.
The creature let out a choked, guttural wail before its body hardened, darkened, then crumbled into useless slag.
Clyde didn’t stop there.
He moved like a furious wind and become a blur of divine mist. Another slash happened and another monster fell.
He then pivoted mid-air, twisting his body effortlessy, and drove his sword straight into the chest of the next creature.
The moment the blade sank in, a burst of purifying energy detonated from the wound. The molten monster’s body solidified then its fire suffocated in an instant. It barely had time to let out a dying screech before its core shattered like brittle glass.
More of them fell in the next seconds.
Some tried to flee but Clyde was faster than them. He didn’t let them.
He cut them down before they could take a single step. His sword sang through the air in deadly arcs, the sheer speed and force of his attack carving through their molten bodies with ease.
But not all of them remained dazed.
"GROOOAARR!!!"
A handful of the stronger monsters roared in fury, shaking off the lingering effects of his attack. Their molten bodies flared back to life, their internal cores burning red hot as they rallied toggether against the overwhelming foe that suddenly came in their midst.
One monster lunged at him.
Clyde twisted just in time, raising his sword in a hasty block as the monster’s clawed hand that dripping with liquid fire came crashing down on him.
The impact sent a hot shockwave rippling through the air, forcing Clyde backward. He skidded to a stop, his boots digging into the cracked earth beneath him.
Another roared and leaped from his side then swinging a burning fist like a meteor. Clyde barely ducked in time, the heat grazing the top of his head.
But he retaliated immediately and slamming the flat of his blade against the monster’s knee. A powerful burst of water surged forth from the impact, extinguishing its molten joints and making its movements sluggish.
It staggered. That was all the opening he needed.
Clyde reversed his grip on his sword and drove the blade straight through its chest. A devastating pulse of energy exploded outward and the monster let out a strangled howl before its core shattered and its body going rigid before crumbling into ash.
More of the stronger monsters came at him together.
They attacked in tandem now, adapting to his assault. Two at once, then three, then four. Clyde felt the change immediately.
His movements that was an unbroken rhythm of slaughter before now met resistance. Their attack forced him to parry instead of simply cutting through them. They were start to become troublesome.
However, it didn’t matter for long.
Clyde gritted his teeth, his eyes blazing with ruthless determination. He adjusted his stance, tightening his grip on his Elderglass sword. Then he surged forward once more at them. His entire body now become a storm of divine water and holy fire.
He slashing, cutting, and stabbing.
The battlefield on that burning ground became a blur of mist and destruction, Clyde’s relentless assault reducing his enemies one by one. His golden light and clear-blue energy drowned their flames, carving through their burning bodies until there was nothing left but steam, cracked husks, and fading embers.
Minutes passed, and silence finally settled over the battlefield.
The air remained thick with mist, the lingering remnants of Clyde’s devastating power mixing with the cooling steam of the slain creatures.
The once scorched ground now lay fractured and blackened, streaks of hardened lava tracing jagged patterns through the ruins of what had once been molten monsters.
Their broken remains. The charred husks and shattered cores, were scattered across the battlefield.
And in the center of it all, Clyde stood alone.
His chest rose and fell in steady controlled breaths while his body still radiating a faint golden glow as the last traces of his power ebbed away. Thin wisps of mist curled off his skin, evaporating into the cooling air. His Elderglass sword that still gleaming with energy was now held loosely at his side.
Clyde let out a slow exhale, then chuckled to himself.
"Phew... that was pretty intense."
He wiped a hand across his brow, flicking away a few lingering droplets of moisture. He looking around the battlefield and seeing the sheer destruction he had left. For a moment, he simply stood there, admiring his own handiwork.
Then, his eyes narrowed.
The monsters had been clustered in this specific area for a reason. He knew creatures like these didn’t just gather aimlessly. They had been guarding something.
Clyde’s expression turned serious as he began his search. He stepped over the remains of his enemies, the ground crunching beneath his boots as he moved. But as he scanned his surroundings his brow furrowed.
There was nothing he can see except destruction, ruins, and cattered remains.
Clyde sighed, rubbing his temples. "Great. Maybe I went a little overboard and destroying the thing I supposed to look for..."
He kept walking, his sharp eyes sweeping across the battlefield for anything unusual. Minutes passed. The mist thinned. The heat from the battle finally started to fade.
Then he saw it.
At first, it looked like just another broken fragment of the battlefield. But as he drew closer, Clyde realized that it wasn’t debris at all. It was something far more deliberate.
A stake.
Thick. Heavy. Almost like a pillar.
It jutted out of the ground at an odd angle, mostly buried beneath layers of hardened lava and cracked earth. Its surface was dark, almost obsidian, but with veins of something brighter pulsing faintly beneath like molten veins locked in stone.
Clyde knelt beside it, reaching out with a cautious hand.
The moment his fingers brushed against it...
FWOOOSH!
A surge of red-hot fire erupted from the stake, a sudden burst of searing heat washing over him. The glow intensified, the pulsing veins igniting into brilliant crimson light.
Clyde didn’t flinch because of his protection.
Instead, he grinned.
"Yeah... this is definitely what I was looking for."
His grip tightened on his Elderglass sword.
Without hesitation, he raised the glowing blade high then brought it down onto the stake, his divine-infused power surging through the weapon.
CLAANG!
The impact sent a ripple of force through the air, the very ground trembling beneath him.
