Chapter 458: Chapter 458: How Crazy Was He That Day

"She hasn’t fallen into a deep sleep yet, I’ll hold her for a while longer," Chi Yue said.

Fu Rongyin nodded slightly and walked to the bar, pouring himself a glass of red wine.

Chi Yue frowned, "You’re like this already, and you’re still drinking?"

"I’m fine like this; what’s the problem?"

Seeing that he was about to bring the glass to his lips, Chi Yue stepped forward and snatched the cup away, "Please consider Mianmian more, don’t let her be an orphan."

Fu Rongyin smiled, "She won’t become an orphan; you wouldn’t ignore her."

Chi Yue met his meaningful smile, and her frown deepened, "You already know?"

Fu Rongyin responded with another question, "Would you like a drink?"

"Fu Rongyin," Chi Yue said with displeasure, "Can you be more mature? If you give up on yourself, what about Mianmian? Today, Lady Fan tried to take Mianmian away from me at the kindergarten. If you weren’t there, and Mianmian was taken back to the Gu Family, do you think she, at such a young age, would have a good life there?"

"She won’t be taken back to the Gu Family."

Chi Yue was waiting for him to say more, but he simply said that and said nothing else.

Chi Yue felt helpless and went upstairs, holding Fu Mianmian.

After settling Fu Mianmian in, she left without lingering.

Who knew that as soon as she stepped out of the room, she saw Fu Rongyin.

He was leaning lazily against the wall, unclear how long he had been watching.

Chi Yue closed the door and walked downstairs without saying a word; behind her, the man’s footsteps were steady and strong.

"Stay tonight," he said.

"Sorry, I’m not in the mood today."

Fu Rongyin chuckled softly, "When have you ever been in the mood?"

Chi Yue, embarrassed and angry, turned and glared at him, "Are you trying to force me again?"

"If you’re unwilling, could I still force you? Let’s go; it’s getting late," he replied.

Chi Yue left indignantly.

Fu Rongyin knew her too well, always managing to prod her just enough to make her feel guilty about leaving him, even as she did so.

As soon as Chi Yue entered her home, she saw Fu Hanyan.

Chi Yue paused, then continued upstairs.

"Chi Yue, can we talk?"

"We have nothing to talk about."

If Fu Hanyan was there, Nan Yuan must be as well, and she feared saying something that would put Nan Yuan in a difficult position.

However, Fu Hanyan said, "It’s just the two of us at home. I specifically asked Nan Yuan to give me a chance to talk to you; can you not refuse me?"

Ultimately, Chi Yue’s heart softened, and she sat down on the couch, "What do you want to talk about?"

"About you. How have you been these past years? I asked Nan Yuan, but no matter what, he wouldn’t tell me."

"Really, there’s nothing much to say."

Fu Hanyan didn’t know how to start.

She had talked to Chi Yue about an incident from four years ago, but Chi Yue had always seemed indifferent to that issue. Nan Yuan said she wouldn’t mind, but Fu Hanyan always felt there was a deep barrier between Chi Yue and herself.

Even for her brother and Mianmian, she had to clarify matters.

"Chi Yue, did you know? My brother and I were abandoned as children. That person, in order to seek revenge, switched her newly born twins with those at the Fu Family. For decades, she didn’t inquire about us; now, as though nothing happened, she wants us to recognize our ancestors and return to the family. No, she wants my brother to do so."

As for herself, she was merely taken back as an afterthought.

Chi Yue quietly waited for her to continue.

Fu Hanyan kept talking, "Actually, four years ago, during a blood test, my brother found out we weren’t children of the Fu Family. I discovered it too, so I came to you for a paternity test, and later, my brother also had a paternity test with you..."

This was why she became increasingly emotionally unstable afterward, to the point where she would hallucinate that Xu Zhenwen was Fan Xuesong.

Seeing her bring up the incident from four years ago, Chi Yue said, "That’s in the past; let’s not bring it up again."

"But Chi Yue, please don’t abandon my brother. He’s all that’s left. Do you know? On the day he didn’t hear from you, how desperate he became. I found out later that he had arranged everything, planning to go somewhere deserted; but then, you sent over Mianmian."
