Chi Yue’s heart felt like it was about to leap out of her chest as she blurted out, "Grandma, Chu Shuo is just joking with you."

With that, she didn’t wait for Mrs. Bai Senior’s reaction and pulled Chu Shuo toward the door.

Once they stepped outside, Chi Yue turned to him. "Chu Shuo, how could you say such things to Grandma?"

Chu Shuo didn’t think there was anything wrong with what he had said. "Didn’t you explain it?"

"But my Grandma isn’t that easy to fool."

Suddenly, Chu Shuo spoke seriously, "Chi Yue, do you really plan to keep going like this?"

"This is my matter."

"If you need my help..."

Chi Yue shook her head, "No need, I have my own plans. Also, if you have time, pay more attention to Chi Qingqing. If the Chi Family knows you’re back, they’ll come looking for you."

"What would they want with me? Technically, I should be the one seeking compensation from them."

Chu Shuo was smiling, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes.

There wasn’t much Chi Yue could say. She only said, "You should leave first. I’ll explain things to Grandma."

When she returned home, Mrs. Bai Senior had already gone to her room, and only Bai Bixuan was in the living room.

As Chi Yue walked toward the old lady’s room, Bai Bixuan called after her, "Grandma has fallen asleep already, don’t disturb her."

Chi Yue paused, then turned to go upstairs.

"Chi Yue, the ’Fifth Brother’ Chu Shuo mentioned is Fu Rongyin, right? You’re still entangled with him," said Bai Bixuan, catching up to her.

"If Grandma finds out about this, do you know what the consequences would be?" she added, approaching from behind.

Chi Yue turned around, her eyes rather cold. "Chu Shuo came because you called him, didn’t he? You didn’t tell Grandma the truth, so she doesn’t know Chu Shuo’s real identity, just that he is a friend you intended to introduce to me."

Bai Bixuan scoffed softly, "It seems he’s told you everything."

"He didn’t need to. Knowing him as I do, he wouldn’t do such a thing. What exactly did you tell him?" asked Chi Yue.

"Not much, just informed him that his ex-wife is pregnant again."

Chi Yue’s gaze darkened slightly. "What have you been doing behind the scenes?"

Bai Bixuan replied with arrogance, "Anything you can do, I can do as well. And a reminder, if you continue to entangle with Fu Rongyin, you’ll only force those around him to take action sooner."

Chi Yue felt that Bai Bixuan had no need to lie to her, but at the same time, Bai Bixuan was not the type to consider her well-being.

After eating dinner at home, Mrs. Bai Senior sent her away, suggesting she go out more and meet new friends.

Many memories of happier times surfaced in her mind, and warmth welled up in Chi Yue’s eyes.

Halfway through the video, Chi Yue suddenly found a photo of a young Bai Qing snuggling next to a man, smiling happily.

Chi Yue had never seen Bai Qing smile so genuinely; tears started to fall uncontrollably.

The doorknob turned, a man walked in silently, and paused upon hearing her muffled sobs.

Chi Yue didn’t notice Fu Rong standing behind her, immersed in her emotions.

It wasn’t until a hand rested on her shoulder that Chi Yue suddenly became aware, hearing the man’s gentle voice close to her ear.

"It’s me."

Chi Yue let down her guard and allowed him to hold her, her emotions slowly steadying.

Fu Rong glanced at the photo on the screen, his eyes lingering on the refined man, his expression unreadable.
