Chapter 242: Chapter 242 Chi Yue, You Really Haven’t Changed at All

Chi Yue and Nan Yuan got into the car, and as they saw Fu Rongyin’s car drive away in the rearview mirror, she said to Nan Yuan, "Let’s go."

Nan Yuan asked, "Aren’t you afraid he’ll be unhappy with you treating him this way?"

Chi Yue smiled, "He never made me happy either, so we are even."

Nan Yuan seemed like he wanted to say something but ended up saying nothing.

"There’s a small gathering tonight, come with me, Xiao Yu will be there too."

"Alright."

What Chi Yue hadn’t expected was to see Fu Hanyan and Fu Rongyin at the party too.

Given how small Nancheng is and that they were all in the same circle, running into each other was inevitable, but the likelihood of this encounter seemed rather high.

Fu Hanyan came over to greet them first, "So you guys are here too."

Chi Yue nodded, "I need to speak with Xiao Yu, you guys chat."

After she left, Fu Hanyan looked at Nan Yuan, "I thought you wouldn’t come... Thank you for still wanting to come to my birthday party."

Her birthday was on the same day as Fu Rongyin’s, but since Fu Rongyin hadn’t celebrated his birthday for ten years, they just called it a casual dinner publicly.

Nan Yuan said, "We are not here for your birthday party, this is just a gathering."

Fu Hanyan laughed.

The truth didn’t matter to her, as long as he was willing to come.

"It’s been a long time since you had a drink with me, can you please join me tonight?"

Nan Yuan didn’t speak but already lifted his glass towards her.

On the other side, when Chi Yue and Nan Bingyu saw their harmonious interaction, Nan Bingyu felt conflicted.

"Is my brother thinking about getting back with her?"

Chi Yue chuckled, "Your brother is not getting any younger, it’s normal if they want to be together."

"But I hope you would be my sister-in-law," Nan Bingyu sighed. "I always thought you two were well-matched; why aren’t you together?"

Chi Yue said, "Matters of the heart can’t be forced; it’s better to let things take their natural course."

"People always say that, but how many can actually do it?"

"Isn’t that how you and Lawyer Xi are?"

Nan Bingyu was about to say something when out of the corner of her eye, she saw Fu Rongyin walking towards them and subtly stood in front of Chi Yue.

Chi Yue, puzzled, turned around and saw Fu Rongyin stopping in front of them.

"Master, you seem to be having quite the pleasant time lately," Nan Bingyu spoke first.

Fu Rongyin glanced at her, "Unlike you, I don’t have anyone by my side."

Nan Bingyu’s response was sarcastic, "From what I see, you’ve had more than just Ling Jiayu around you recently; in terms of partners, I certainly can’t compete with you."

Fu Rongyin nonchalantly responded, "Your partners would probably amount to an entire group?"

Nan Bingyu frowned, looking to continue, but Chi Yue pulled her back.

"Mr. Fu, is there something you needed?" Chi Yue asked.

Fu Rongyin: "I’ll drive you home."

Chi Yue: "I’m not ready to go home yet."

"Nan Bingyu has someone to pick her up, Nan Yuan has been drinking, and it’s hard to get a taxi here."

Chi Yue looked towards where Nan Yuan and Fu Hanyan were, and indeed she saw the two drinking.

Upon closer inspection, it resembled a drinking contest with no conversation involved.

While hesitating, Xi Yihang came over and forcefully took Nan Bingyu away.

Chi Yue, having no choice, got into his car.

After being dropped off at her apartment building, he also got out of the car.

Chi Yue stopped and looked at him, "Mr. Fu, I really don’t want anything to happen between us tonight, and you shouldn’t waste your time on me."

"You’re truly heartless, dispose of after using."

Facing his accusation, she remained expressionless, "Just consider me a creature without feelings then."

"Chi Yue, you really haven’t changed, still so heartless."

"Being affectionate isn’t something good either, Mr. Fu, you should head back."

With that, she walked away without looking back.

Under the dim street lamp, Fu Rongyin leaned against the car door, pulled out a cigarette and lighter.

He lit it.

The cigarette burned at his slender fingertips, yet he never brought it to his lips.

Passersby couldn’t help but take another look at him, but he remained unaffected, his gaze fixed on the balcony of Chi Yue’s apartment.

Only after the light turned off did he finally drive away.
