Chi Yue’s voice was soft, as if patiently explaining the matter.

But Fu Rongyin’s face darkened.

"Do you think talking like this will increase my fondness for you? If you want me to marry you, you will need to try harder," he said.

Chi Yue chuckled lightly, "I never said that being with you must end in marriage to you."

"You will. Only by marrying me can you drive Ling Jiayu away; there’s no second path."

"We haven’t reached that point yet. Who can say for sure? Perhaps before long, you will take the initiative to marry me?"

Fu Rongyin curled his lip, "You are quite confident."

"If I didn’t even have that much confidence, I wouldn’t be able to charm you."

Out of the corner of her eye, Chi Yue saw Ling Jiayu approaching them and said, "She keeps such a close eye on you, yet she allows you to be with me at night. It makes me wonder, what unspeakable secrets does she have?"

Fu Rongyin’s expression remained unchanged, "That’s not your concern."

When Ling Jiayu reached Chi Yue, she said with a light smile, "Miss Chi really should dress up more. Tonight, the two most eligible men were attracted to you, not to mention the other men."

The two men she referred to were Fu Rongyin and Nan Yuan.

Chi Yue said casually, "I never dress up to be noticed by others."

Fu Rongyin looked at her intensely and left with Ling Jiayu.

Chi Yue didn’t see Fu Rongyin again that night.

He did not return all night.

On her way to work, Chi Yue received a call from Xu Zhenwen, "Did Ah Yin not come home last night?"

Chi Yue replied, "He didn’t return to No.1 Bay."

Xu Zhenwen frowned, "He left with Ling Jiayu and then didn’t come back?"

Chi Yue, "I’m not clear on who he left with in the end."

"Chi Yue, don’t forget, we’ve signed a contract. If you don’t have the capability, I can find someone else."

Chi Yue’s tone was calm, "You can look for someone else, but you’ll have to pay me a penalty for breaching the contract. Ms. Xu, others might not get as close to him as I can, unless you go to Lady Ling and persuade her to leave on her own."

Of course, Xu Zhenwen knew that Chi Yue was the best choice.

She moderated her tone, slightly impatiently, "Ling Jiayu is not as easy to deal with as you think. Someone who has faked their death for so many years comes back suddenly and can even use their old identity—no one knows what other secrets she’s hiding."

"Thank you for the reminder. I will be careful," Chi Yue responded.

Seeing that Chi Yue was always so bland in her responses, Xu Zhenwen decided not to press her further.

Before hanging up, she said, "You’ve resumed work at the authentication center, haven’t you? I’ll have someone send a sample over later. Once the results are out, bring them directly to me."

Chi Yue, "Understood."

No sooner had she arrived at the studio than someone delivered the sample to her.

The manager smiled obsequiously, "You really are the lucky star of this place. After you left, it was so quiet around here. Now that you’re back, we have regulars coming in every other day. To say you’re the God of Wealth wouldn’t be an exaggeration."

Chi Yue said wryly, "Coming here is hardly a good thing."

"Who says? We’re doing great deeds here, helping people reunite and enjoy family happiness. How can that not be a good thing?"

Chi Yue pulled a face, taking the sample to the lab, "Then I’m off to do good deeds."

"Go on, then," said the manager.

Before leaving work in the afternoon, Chi Yue called Xu Zhenwen to say the results were ready. Xu Zhenwen told her someone would come to pick her up.

Chi Yue had just walked downstairs when she saw Fu Rongyin’s car parked at the curbside.

The car window rolled down, revealing Fu Rongyin’s resolute face.

"Get in," he said.

Chi Yue’s gaze passed over him and settled on the woman in the passenger seat.
