Chapter 99: Chapter 99 Christopher Coldson Never to be Seen Again
"Of course," Sunny Coldson agreed quickly.
She stood up and bowed respectfully to Lola Gold, "Actually, I came here today to personally apologize to Lola. Regardless, I also have responsibility in this matter."
"It’s not your fault, why are you apologizing?" Christopher Coldson said tenderly as he helped Sunny Coldson up and then looked towards Yolanda Greenwood and Lola Gold, "Honestly, if Sunny hadn’t asked me to come, I wouldn’t have come today."
His gaze finally fixed on Lola Gold, "Our relationship was a transaction of money for pleasure right from the beginning. Whether as a substitute or for meeting needs, I don’t think I have any obligation to explain to you."
It was a blatant insult.
Lola Gold felt breathless. She had thought over and over to herself last night.
Was she such a money-loving person? Why had she fallen for Christopher Coldson? Was it because of his money?
Truthfully, she couldn’t find a definite answer.
Wasn’t everything about the Christopher in front of her built by the Coldson Family’s wealth?
Discarding money and looking at everything, it simply wasn’t realistic.
She struggled to stand up; by now, Christopher had thoroughly extinguished the flames in her heart.
"Don’t get me wrong," Lola Gold heard herself say, though her voice was bitter, "I didn’t come for an explanation."
Christopher raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.
"That contract," Lola Gold’s tone gradually calmed, "could you give it back to me?"
She glanced at Sunny, "I congratulate you two, lovers who ended up together. Now, please give me a gracious chance to leave."
Christopher’s gaze deepened, he watched her unblinkingly, clearly surprised by her words.
"Christopher," Sunny affectionately grabbed Christopher’s arm, "You guys had a contract?"
"Yes," Christopher diverted his gaze to the person beside him and casually curled his lips, "But I tossed it aside, and now it’s gone."
His words became more cruel, "Just a piece of trash. I never thought anyone would care so much."
"Christopher Coldson, don’t you push me too far!" Yolanda Greenwood supported a staggering Lola Gold.
"The contract is gone; can we leave now?" Christopher Coldson looked at Lola Gold again.
"Alright, in front of Miss Coldson, you wouldn’t go back on your word, would you?" Lola Gold braced herself, "I’ll repay the money as soon as I can."
She took a deep breath and then looked at Christopher Coldson.
She knew it was probably their last encounter. Through her blurred eyes, she couldn’t quite make out his expression.
"Christopher Coldson, then... let’s never meet again."
Sunny Coldson sensed Christopher’s body obviously stiffen.
"Lola," she slowly started, "Don’t worry about the contract; we won’t deny it, and as for the money, you don’t have to pay it back."
"Whatever, let’s go," Christopher turned and walked out without any signs of attachment.
When the room’s door opened and then closed again, Lola Gold finally couldn’t support herself any longer, collapsing.
"Lola," Yolanda energetically helped her to sit on a chair, "Are you alright?"
Lola Gold gasped for air, smiling at Yolanda and nodded, but couldn’t speak.
She was afraid that the moment she opened her mouth, all her pretense and strength would crumble.
Yolanda poured her a glass of water and quietly sat beside her.
About half an hour passed, Lola Gold suddenly smiled, "All this food has gotten cold, should we take it to-go?"
"Are you hungry?" Yolanda carefully observed Lola’s expression, unable to discern anything unusual.
"A bit," Lola exaggeratedly patted her stomach.
"Then we should order a new table of food, my treat," Yolanda stood up ready to find a waiter.
"Don’t waste it," Lola unexpectedly picked up her chopsticks and started eating, "I’m already fifty thousand in debt, I can’t waste money, neither yours."
The money Christopher had given her, except for the fifty thousand used for her mother’s treatment, she had barely touched.
Yolanda sat back down, feeling no appetite herself, just watched Lola eat.
Lola initially ate little by little but soon started eating in big bites, tears mixed with her food, trying not to cry out loud.
Yolanda softly patted her, her voice choked, "Take it slow."
"I’m too hungry, choked a bit, tears came out," Lola chuckled.
The meal was lengthy, Yolanda knew, based on Lola’s personality, when they left this private room, Lola would be bidding her past farewell.
After what felt like a long time, Lola finally put down her chopsticks, "I’m full now."
"Should we go home?" Yolanda asked tentatively.
Lola nodded, then teasingly asked, "Were you hungry earlier?"
"A bit."
Both of them left the restaurant, surprised to find it was already dark outside.
Lola took a deep breath, looking apologetically at Yolanda, "You lied earlier."
"Huh?" Yolanda was puzzled.
"You must be starving," Lola said guiltily, pulling Yolanda towards a nearby stall, "Choose whatever you want, I’m treating today, cherish this chance, it’s the last time I’ll be generous."
Yolanda cooperatively smiled, "Okay, however much money you brought, I promise to spend it all."
"Don’t, take it easy, take it easy," Lola pleaded with her again.
They joked as they bought some snacks, and by the time they ate and returned, it was already past nine at night.
Exiting the elevator, Yolanda saw Noah Coldson standing at the apartment entrance.
"Brother, why are you here?"
Noah asked, "Did both of your phones die? Why couldn’t I reach you?"
Yolanda sheepishly stuck out her tongue, "I rushed out today, forgot my phone."
Lola scratched her head, "My phone was on silent, I didn’t realize it had died, I was wondering why, it must have been because brother kept calling."
"Is something wrong?" Yolanda asked, slightly worried.
"You need to come with me," Noah looked at Lola, obviously not intending to explain.
"Okay," Yolanda trusted him, "Lola, you go ahead, we should be back soon."
Noah corrected, "Not necessarily, if things go smoothly, you might not be coming back tonight."
"What?" Lola was clearly unhappy, "This is like the pregnant Empress Dowager; why do you need her for the whole night?"
"Nevermind," Noah still refused to answer.
"It’s fine," Yolanda smiled and whispered to Lola, "Will you be okay alone?"
"Don’t worry," Lola nodded, she opened the door to grab her phone, "Stay in touch."
"Okay," Yolanda followed Noah and left.
