Chapter 402: Chapter 402: Is This the Feeling of Heartache?
Watching the person you deeply love flirt with another man, listening to your own daughter call someone else "Dad"... Cooper Coldson could no longer bear it and suddenly stood up.
"Dad?" Little Gabriel looked over worriedly.
Yolanda Greenwood and Little Ella also looked up curiously.
Cooper Coldson took a deep breath and then struggled to say, "You guys eat first, I’m going to the restroom."
He forced a smile and rubbed Little Gabriel’s small head, "Be good, eat."
As if he could no longer hold on, he turned and left in big strides.
There were only three or five tables of guests in the entire restaurant, and the restroom was empty. Cooper Coldson closed the door and leaned powerlessly against the sink.
The unprecedented pain and torment made it impossible for him to hold on, with despair and helplessness filling his heart. He really didn’t know what to do.
He searched for three years, waited for three years, just to give up, let Yolanda Greenwood and Little Ella disappear from his life again, he absolutely couldn’t do it.
But he was truly in agony.
In the restaurant, Yolanda Greenwood kept her head down, obviously having no appetite; the emotions in Cooper Coldson’s eyes just now could fool the children, but not her.
What exactly happened between them? If Cooper Coldson really loved her deeply, then why did they get divorced?
She had lost her memory and couldn’t find the answer. It felt like she was wantonly hurting someone, and this feeling... it wasn’t pleasant for her either.
"Mom, aren’t you eating?" Little Ella raised her small head, looking at her worriedly, "You don’t like this? How about I give you my carrots?"
"No, you must eat the carrots yourself." Yolanda Greenwood laughed helplessly, knowing the little rascal just didn’t want to eat the carrots.
"What? Nobody’s eating? Waiting for me?" At this moment, Cooper Coldson returned, looking like nothing had happened.
He sat next to Little Gabriel and smiled, "Hurry up and eat, it’ll taste bad once it’s cold."
He smiled and asked Little Gabriel and Little Ella, "What should we play this afternoon? Ella, should Uncle take you and brother to go-karting?"
"Go-karting?" Little Ella turned her head to look at Yolanda Greenwood, "Mom, can we?"
Yolanda Greenwood was surprised at how quickly Cooper Coldson had returned to normal, and she smiled as she came back to her senses, "As long as you eat all those carrots, Mommy will let you go."
"Uh..." The little girl clearly didn’t want to, starting to seek help again, "Can brother help me eat? Brother needs to eat carrots too."
"Nope, brother’s task is to eat all of this." Cooper Coldson laughed and coaxed gently, "Good Ella, hurry and eat, and once you finish, Uncle will take you go-karting."
"Okay." Little Ella agreed without hesitation, even cheering on the side for Little Gabriel, "Brother, let’s eat together!"
Little Gabriel smiled quietly, and then happily replied, "Okay."
He usually didn’t eat much because, due to his analgesia, he hardly felt hungry. But today, to make Dad, Mom, and sister happy, even if he didn’t want to eat, he would try to eat a little more.
"Eat slowly, don’t choke." Yolanda Greenwood gently reminded them from the side, glancing at Cooper Coldson. The two of them exchanged a smile when their eyes met.
The day’s time quickly ended, and Cooper Coldson and Little Gabriel escorted Yolanda Greenwood and Little Ella back home.
"We had a lot of fun today," Cooper Coldson was the first to say.
"So did we." Yolanda Greenwood patted Little Ella’s head, "Ella, say goodbye to Uncle and brother."
"Goodbye, Uncle! Goodbye, brother!" The little girl waved her hand obediently.
"Goodbye, sister," Little Gabriel looked up at Yolanda Greenwood, his eyes shining, "Goodbye, Aunt Greenwood!"
"Goodbye!" Yolanda Greenwood smiled and then looked at Cooper Coldson, "Mr. Coldson, thanks for today, goodbye!"
"Goodbye!" Cooper Coldson reluctantly said the two words, watching as the mother and daughter left.
Back in the car again, he let out a deep sigh, and the joy and ease he had just pretended vanished without a trace.
Little Gabriel sat quietly beside him, as if retreating back into his own world.
Father and son sat in the car for a while before Cooper Coldson found his voice, "Gabriel, let’s go home."
Little Gabriel nodded and said nothing.
After returning to the villa, Little Gabriel ate a little and then went upstairs to his room.
Cooper Coldson went to check on him and then went downstairs to drink in silence.
He hadn’t drunk alone in a long time, but today, he felt too miserable, feeling that the heart he had patched up was shattered again. But in front of Yolanda Greenwood and Little Ella, he had to pretend everything was fine.
One glass after another, Cooper Coldson didn’t even know how many he drank. Suddenly, he turned his head and saw Little Gabriel standing beside him.
Cooper Coldson sobered up halfway instantly. He got up from the chair, swayed, and hurriedly held onto the table, "Gabriel, what’s wrong? Aren’t you asleep?"
"Dad, are you very sad?" Little Gabriel asked in his childlike voice, "Does something hurt?"
Cooper Coldson tugged at the corners of his mouth and then placed his finger over his heart, "Here, Dad feels a little uncomfortable here, but it’s okay, it’ll be fine tomorrow."
"Here?" The little guy mimicked his dad, placing his finger over his heart, "Heartache?"
"Yes." Cooper Coldson nodded, somewhat overwhelmed by his son’s sudden concern, his nose tingling.
Little Gabriel obviously didn’t understand this feeling, his expression a bit confused, "Heart, pain, what kind of feeling is that?"
Instantly thinking of his son’s condition, Cooper Coldson knelt down and hugged the little guy, "Our Gabriel doesn’t need to know, our Gabriel should always be happy..."
"But seeing Dad like this makes Gabriel feel... a little breathless, is that heartache?" Little Gabriel asked confusedly.
Cooper Coldson suddenly burst into tears, "Be good, Gabriel, don’t feel bad, alright? It’s Dad’s fault, Dad’s alright now, Dad won’t drink anymore, okay?"
"It’s not Dad’s fault," Little Gabriel continued, "Mom’s not wrong either."
Cooper Coldson let go of him and asked, his eyes moist, "Gabriel, if Mom can never remember us, never come back to us, will you hate Dad?"
"No." Little Gabriel shook his head immediately, gently wiping away Cooper Coldson’s tears, "It’s not Dad’s fault."
"It is, it was all Dad’s fault. If Dad hadn’t hurt Mom back then, she wouldn’t have left, wouldn’t have lost her memory and forgotten us."
Three years later, Cooper Coldson was once again enveloped in endless remorse, "It’s all Dad’s fault. Dad lost Mom, Dad made our Gabriel have no mom all this time, Dad deserves to die, Dad deserves to die!"
He hugged Little Gabriel tightly and broke down crying.
