Chapter 398: Chapter 398: Why Does An’an’s Dad Seem to Be Crying?
In the evening, Yolanda Greenwood went to pick up Little Ella as usual, but surprisingly, Cooper Coldson was there too.
Although this was her first time seeing his face clearly, she recognized the man in front of her as Cooper, her ex-husband, almost instantly.
She thought of Isabella Ross’s words and quickly composed herself, greeting him naturally, "You’re Gabriel’s father, right?"
Seeing Yolanda, Cooper felt as if the blood in his body had frozen instantly. He stood there rigidly, unable to manage a friendly smile.
Hearing her greet him so naturally and refer to him as Gabriel’s father, he felt as if he’d been punched hard, waking him up.
Yes, Yolanda had amnesia, and now to her, they were just Ella’s mom and Gabriel’s dad.
"Hello," Cooper spoke, his voice parched and dry, "Ella’s mom, it’s nice to meet you."
He extended his hand, trying to use their roles to conceal his identity; just shaking her hand again would be enough for him.
However, Yolanda just smiled and didn’t extend her hand, "Better not, my hands aren’t very clean, so I’ll pass."
She nodded to Cooper as she passed by him like the wind, taking Little Ella’s backpack, "Ella, say goodbye to your uncle and brother; we’re heading home."
"Goodbye, uncle. Goodbye, brother!" Little Ella greeted obediently.
She was picked up by Yolanda, her little head resting on Yolanda’s shoulder, waving her hand continually. Then, she curiously blinked her large eyes and whispered in Yolanda’s ear, "Mom, why does that uncle seem like he’s crying?"
Yolanda paused her steps for a moment but didn’t turn around and instead confirmed with Little Ella, "Is it Gabriel’s dad?"
"Yes, he seemed very sad." Little Ella touched her chest, "Ella doesn’t want him to be sad."
Yolanda was silent. She had lost all memories of Cooper and Little Gabriel, but strangely, hearing Ella say Cooper was sad made her feel uncomfortable.
But it couldn’t be helped. No matter what had happened between them in the past, such a dramatic ending showed they couldn’t have a future together.
She straightened her back and quickened her pace.
Cooper stood quietly, watching Yolanda and Little Ella leave. It felt as if his heart was punched repeatedly, the pain not quite real, yet it made breathing difficult.
"Dad!" Little Gabriel, clearly noticing Cooper’s emotions, hugged his dad’s leg for the first time.
"Gabriel, be good!" Cooper lowered his head, giving a gentle smile to his son, then picked up Little Gabriel, continuing to watch Yolanda and Little Ella. He softly asked, "Our Gabriel knows that’s mom and sister, right?"
Little Gabriel nodded forcefully, "Dad finally isn’t a silly dad anymore."
Cooper was stunned for a moment, realizing it was because of this that his son had called him silly dad all this time.
He gently kissed his son’s forehead, "Our Gabriel is the best!"
Only when Yolanda took Little Ella away in a taxi did Cooper bring Little Gabriel into the car.
In the car, Little Gabriel looked up, full of anticipation, and asked Cooper, "Dad, when will mom and sister come home with us?"
"..." Cooper felt his heart tighten again; he pressed his son’s little head against his chest with a big hand, "Be good, wait a little more, we’ll wait a little more."
The little one’s voice echoed muffled, "Mom doesn’t remember Gabriel, does she? She doesn’t remember dad either!"
"Be good, mom was hurt, so for now, she forgot us. But Gabriel shouldn’t worry; mom will definitely remember us," Cooper nodded firmly.
"Yes, she definitely will!" Little Gabriel also nodded affirmatively.
After they returned to the villa, who would have thought Isabella was there again.
"Mom?" Cooper was somewhat surprised; actually, since he had brought Little Gabriel back, Isabella had not visited frequently.
"Did you see Yolanda?" Isabella asked bluntly.
"Yes." Cooper lowered his head, doing his best to hide his sagging spirits, "I saw her, but she’s lost her memory and doesn’t recognize Gabriel and me anymore."
Isabella asked him again, "So did you two reconnect?"
Cooper shook his head, "Let’s wait a bit more; give her some time, she’ll eventually remember."
"Cooper, are you still deceiving yourself?" Isabella spoke sincerely, "Yolanda has forgotten you, which means she has started a new life, maybe she’s even married. What purpose does it serve for you to continue like this?"
Cooper’s fists clenched tightly by his side. He had been waiting in place for so long, he had long stopped chasing any purpose, but now that Yolanda seemed to have returned as a different person, he found it hard to accept.
Yes, for three years, he had been the only one imprisoned by his own design, waiting there, while Yolanda had long since moved far away.
"Cooper, I invited Elsie Adams over for dinner tonight; you should bring Gabriel," Isabella stood up and said, "Elsie’s personality and family background are good, plus being a child psychologist, marrying her would be beneficial for Gabriel. Think about it yourself."
She walked to the door, then turned around to add, "Don’t pull your son into the abyss with you just because of those elusive feelings."
After Isabella left, Cooper sat alone in the living room for a long time.
When Isabella called again to urge him to go over, he went upstairs to find Little Gabriel, "Gabriel, do you like mom?"
Little Gabriel nodded forcefully, he liked mom the most.
"Even if mom has forgotten you, and might never remember you, will you still like mom?" Cooper pursued the question.
"Like!" The little one’s answer was loud and unwavering.
"Good child, truly dad’s good child." Cooper went downstairs and sent Isabella a message.
[Mom, you go ahead and eat, Gabriel and I won’t be coming over, this is a decision Gabriel and I made together, you don’t need to persuade me anymore.]
Isabella was furious when she saw the message.
Elsie seemed to have guessed something, "Aunt Ross, Mr. Coldson doesn’t want to come, does he?"
"This child seems to be under some kind of poison..." Isabella shook her head in anger, "Elsie, please wait patiently a little longer, I already talked to Yolanda; she’s married again, she can’t be with Cooper anymore."
Elsie gave a bitter smile, "But... Cooper has been waiting for three years, now that Yolanda has finally come back, will he really give up? Or maybe, he’ll wait another three years? Five years? Who knows?"
Isabella’s face changed, clearly unhappy with Elsie’s attitude.
"Elsie, what you’re considering makes sense too. If you feel you can wait no longer, just let Aunt Ross know, I won’t bother you anymore."
"Of course not, Aunt Ross, that’s not what I meant," Elsie hastily expressed her resolve, "Aunt, my heart is the same as Cooper’s; he can wait, I can wait too. Three years, five years, ten years, as long as he’s still single, I’ll keep waiting."
