Chapter 361: Chapter 361: From now on, I will play with my brother together
Everyone held their breath, watching the two little children. In their imagination, Gabriel Coldson would push Ella Greenwood aside and make her leave.
However, Gabriel’s dark eyes froze the moment he saw Ella. He simply stared at her quietly, without making any moves.
"Brother, are you afraid you can’t open this candy wrapper?" Little Ella smiled warmly, her eyes curving. "I’ll help you open it."
The little girl adeptly bit into the wrapper to tear it open, then picked out the glistening candy and placed it in the palm of her hand, offering it again to Gabriel. "Brother, eat it. It’s super sweet!"
Elsie Adams sighed deeply. She knew it was over. Gabriel would never eat the candy from Ella’s hand because he had a severe cleanliness obsession. Anything touched by someone else was off-limits.
Not to mention, Ella’s saliva might have even touched the candy.
Elsie moved forward with a mix of amusement and resignation, just as she was about to call Ella back, only to be startled by what she saw.
"Oh my god!" Even the other children couldn’t help but marvel aloud.
They saw Gabriel picking up the candy from Little Ella’s palm and putting it into his mouth, his eyes fixed on her as though...
Elsie frowned slightly, thinking of a phrase: Reunion after long separation. Could it be the two children knew each other?
She quickly dismissed the idea. After all, Gabriel had always lived in Gray City, while Ella had just arrived. There’s no way they could’ve met before.
"Brother, is it sweet?" Little Ella bubbled over with joy when she saw him eat the candy she gave him.
She scooted closer to him, looking at his face. "Brother, you’re so beautiful."
Gabriel didn’t actually like sweets or sugary things, but for some reason, he couldn’t refuse this little girl who called him brother.
The girl had boldly said he was beautiful, but he thought silently to himself: You’re even prettier. No, you’re the prettiest.
"Congratulations to our Little Ella," Elsie Adams walked over to the two children at the perfect moment. "You made a friend on your first day at preschool."
She gently asked Little Ella, "Ella, would you like to be friends with Gabriel going forward?"
She felt Little Ella was truly the key to opening Gabriel’s heart and hoped they would spend more time together enjoying each other’s friendship.
"I do!" Little Ella beamed with happiness, eagerly grabbing Gabriel’s hand. "From now on, I’ll play with Brother every day!"
Elsie Adams immediately began clapping, and the other children quickly followed suit, celebrating joyfully.
All afternoon, Little Ella stayed glued to Gabriel, doing everything by his side. While Gabriel said nothing, he silently accepted her presence.
Elsie Adams felt overjoyed, already imagining how happy Gabriel’s father would be upon hearing the news.
Before they knew it, it was dismissal time. Yolanda Greenwood had actually been waiting at the preschool entrance for a while, but she hadn’t gone inside, afraid it might affect Little Ella’s emotions.
Finally, the time came to pick up her daughter. She stood at the front of the crowd where all the parents were gathered.
The children inside obediently lined up. Seeing their parents, one by one, they left with their families.
"Mommy! That’s my mommy at the front!" Little Ella spotted Yolanda Greenwood at the front and couldn’t hold back her pride. "That’s my mommy!"
She started looking around for her brother to share her excitement, but couldn’t see Gabriel anywhere in the line.
"Alright, Ella, you can go see Mommy now. We’ll see you tomorrow!" Elsie Adams waved goodbye to Little Ella.
"Bye, Teacher! See you tomorrow!" Little Ella giggled as she dashed forward and leapt into Yolanda Greenwood’s arms. "Mommy, Ella missed you so much! You’re the best! You’re the first one here!"
"Silly girl." Yolanda Greenwood felt her heart tighten and her eyes grow misty.
Other parents couldn’t help but compliment the lovely and well-behaved Little Ella, starting conversations with Yolanda Greenwood.
"First time dropping her off? You’ll get used to being apart in a few days—it’ll get easier."
"This child is so beautiful, just like a princess from a cartoon."
"Hey, Mom, do you want to betroth her? My son’s really smart!"
The crowd erupted into good-natured laughter.
Yolanda Greenwood held Little Ella close, exchanged a few polite words with everyone, and then left.
Inside the taxi, Yolanda Greenwood’s tears began falling uncontrollably. She cradled Little Ella and kissed her several times. "Did you miss Mommy today?"
"Mommy, don’t cry," Little Ella earnestly wiped away her mother’s tears. "Ella missed Mommy the most today."
"Good girl!" Yolanda Greenwood began carefully checking over Little Ella, ensuring she had been safe and sound at preschool, finally relaxing with relief.
As they drove off, she happened to glance back, catching sight of a man stepping out from a luxury car and walking into the preschool.
She didn’t give it much thought, only feeling grateful to the preschool’s founder for providing Ella such a secure and magical castle-like place.
Inside the classroom at preschool, all the other children had left except Gabriel, who remained sitting there.
Elsie Adams stood nearby to keep him company. Suddenly, she noticed Gabriel’s palm holding a melted piece of candy, sticky against his skin.
She grabbed a wet tissue and approached him. "Gabriel, come on, let Teacher help you wipe off the candy."
The boy rarely spoke, so she didn’t wait for his response and reached out with the tissue to clean up the mess.
Unexpectedly, Gabriel suddenly erupted in a fit of temper. "Go away!"
He pushed Elsie Adams away forcefully, clutching the wet tissue in his hand that still held the candy—his sister’s candy.
He hadn’t been able to eat all of it, instead saving it as something precious.
Cooper Coldson entered the classroom just in time to witness Gabriel pushing Elsie Adams aside.
"Gabriel!" He reprimanded him softly, his tone low and firm. He quickly walked forward a few steps, pulling Gabriel close to him. "What are you doing? How can you push your teacher?"
Gabriel hid the hand holding the candy behind his back, his face tense and wary, clearly in a heightened state of defense.
"It’s alright, Mr. Coldson, I’m fine." Elsie Adams quickly intervened to explain. "I must’ve startled him—it’s not his fault."
Cooper Coldson let out a light sigh and stood up, nodding slightly toward Elsie Adams. "I apologize on Gabriel’s behalf."
"No need, it’s okay." No matter how many times Elsie Adams saw this man, her heart would inexplicably race. She knew there were plenty of successful men in the world, but someone so understated, humble, and polite like the one before her—she’d never met anyone like him.
Her cheeks flushed faintly as she composed herself, smiling even as her heart fluttered. "Gabriel, it was Teacher’s mistake—should I apologize to you instead?"
Gabriel remained silent, hiding half of his small figure behind Cooper Coldson.
Elsie noticed his actions and gently reminded Cooper, "Mr. Coldson, Gabriel’s palm holds a melted candy. I was trying to help him clean it up, but he wouldn’t let me."
"Alright, thank you for letting me know, Teacher Adams. I’ll handle it shortly." Cooper Coldson turned and lifted Gabriel up in his arms. "Teacher Adams, see you tomorrow!"
"Wait!" Elsie Adams called out to stop him.
