Chapter 339 He Will Never Forgive Himself

Chapter 339: Chapter 339 He Will Never Forgive Himself

"No way!" Cooper grabbed Yolanda Greenwood’s arm. "You can’t go, it’s too dangerous."

Yolanda spun around abruptly, her gaze filled with an unprecedented, bone-deep hatred. "Let go!"

Cooper was startled by the look in her eyes, a suffocating pain stabbing his chest. "Yolanda..."

"I said let go!" Yolanda forcefully shook him off. Her whole body was trembling. Cooper had taken away her son, yet he failed to protect him. She hated him deeply.

She turned her head and begged Melissa Greenwood again. "I beg you, let Gabriel go. If you want my life, I can give it to you. Just let Gabriel go."

"Yolanda, calm down." Lola Gold stepped forward and held Yolanda’s arm. "Calm down. She won’t dare harm the child."

"Hahaha..." It was overwhelmingly satisfying. Melissa Greenwood burst into laughter. "Yolanda Greenwood, I can’t take you away, but I want you to stay..."

She stared at Yolanda and Cooper with gritted teeth. "I want you two to torment each other forever, to become eternal enemies."

"Hahaha..." Melissa laughed hysterically. "I’m going back now, don’t follow me."

She held Little Gabriel tightly and started retreating step by step. Yolanda and the others dared not chase her, but the police exchanged looks and quickly followed.

Yolanda grabbed one of the officers by the arm. "Protect the child, you must protect the child."

"Don’t worry, Miss Greenwood." The policemen immediately ran after Melissa Greenwood.

The wedding guests and media left in tacit understanding, leaving only Yolanda Greenwood, Cooper, and the others on site.

Yolanda tried to leave, but as soon as she stepped out, darkness clouded her vision, and she almost fainted.

Lola Gold caught her in time. "Yolanda, are you alright? Melissa wouldn’t dare harm the child, don’t worry too much."

"Yolanda, trust me. I will definitely..." Cooper took a few steps forward, his throat tightening as he spoke.

Yolanda stared coldly at him. "So, from the very beginning, you never intended to truly marry Melissa Greenwood, did you?"

Cooper nodded slightly. He knew Melissa’s biggest desire was to marry him. By shattering her dream at her proudest moment, he aimed to make her downfall witnessed by everyone.

"Then why did you hold the wedding?" Yolanda couldn’t hold it back any longer, breaking into hysterics.

"Why hold the wedding? Why bring Gabriel here? And if you brought him, why couldn’t you keep him safe?"

She shouted at Cooper, but in her heart, she was questioning herself as well.

"It’s my fault, I failed to hold onto the child," Isabella Ross glanced at Cooper’s broken expression, her heart aching for him. She walked up and supported Cooper, continuously apologizing to Yolanda. "Yolanda, no one wanted this to happen. Please... please have some sympathy for Cooper."

"Sympathy for him?" Yolanda’s eyes burned with an intensity that could devour Cooper alive. "Does he even deserve it?"

She knew now was not the time to collapse. She had to save Gabriel.

Strength surged within her, and she turned to Lola Gold and the others. "Let’s go. We must get Gabriel back."

"Yolanda, I promise, I will bring Gabriel back without a scratch." Cooper’s voice sounded from behind, laden with endless remorse.

He had never imagined things could spiral to this extent.

The moment he learned the truth, he almost lost his mind. An avalanche of guilt and long-buried love overwhelmed him, driving him to the brink. He wished he could immediately kneel before Yolanda, beg her forgiveness, plead for another chance.

But he knew it wasn’t possible—not yet. He had to deliver an ending for Melissa Greenwood, an ending that satisfied everyone.

Cooper had planned to send Melissa Greenwood to prison today and then go to Yolanda to sincerely apologize. Even if he had to spend his entire life atoning, he would have no complaints.

But why was fate so cruel? If anything truly happened to Gabriel, Yolanda would never forgive him, and he would never forgive himself.

He deserved death!

Yolanda and the others got into the car. Noah Coldson was on the phone, asking about Melissa Greenwood’s whereabouts.

Yolanda and Lola were seated in the back.

"Why did I wait until today to expose Melissa Greenwood?" Yolanda frantically struck her head with her fists. "Why? Why exactly?"

"Yolanda, don’t do this, don’t do this." Lola cried in panic. She understood that Yolanda and Cooper had chosen today together; neither of them could truly be blamed for how things turned out.

She grabbed Yolanda’s hands tightly. "Yolanda, no one could have anticipated this. It was an accident. It’s not your fault, it’s not your fault!"

"The day my brother returned May, I should have called the cops, should have had them arrest Melissa Greenwood then and there. Today wouldn’t have happened." Yolanda was consumed by regret, despair swamping her entirely.

"Yolanda, listen to me. There were so many people here today, and so many media outlets. Now, everyone knows about Melissa Greenwood’s crimes. She can’t escape."

Up front, Noah Coldson had gathered intel. "Melissa Greenwood has returned to the Greenwood Family estate. We’re heading there now."

"Alright, alright." Yolanda’s tears poured like rain. "Let’s get there quickly. If Gabriel sees that we’re there, he might not feel as scared. He’s so small, so very small..."

She clutched Lola’s hand tightly. "Gabriel is pitiful, so pitiful."

"It’ll be okay, it’ll be okay," Lola comforted her as she saw Yolanda almost choking amid her sobs.

Yolanda’s entire body was still trembling. She had been shaking from the moment Little Gabriel was taken.

Lola knew that any words were meaningless at this point. Only rescuing Little Gabriel could bring Yolanda back.

She gently pulled Yolanda into her arms, hoping to give her a sliver of solace.

At the venue, Cooper seemed like a soul lost to the ether. Within such a short span, he’d become utterly haggard.

Isabella Ross had been sensing something off with Cooper in the past few days, and now she understood completely. She finally saw what her son had been enduring all alone.

"Cooper, my dear Cooper, brace yourself. Gabriel will be fine."

Though she felt immense pain for her grandson, her heart ached even more for her son. "Cooper, listen to your mother—Gabriel will be fine. Your grandfather’s spirit in heaven will surely protect him."

"Mom!" Cooper suddenly faltered, nearly collapsing. Luckily, Richard Reyes reacted quickly to catch him.

He glanced at Richard—usually a vibrant young man, but now his face was half-ravaged beyond recognition. Cooper’s voice choked as he spoke. "I’ve wronged you too."

"President Coldson, don’t say that," Richard’s tears kept flowing uncontrollably. Cooper had always been his idol. He had never seen Cooper like this. "What happened today was an accident. If we’re talking about responsibility, every one of us shares it."

"Yes, Cooper, it’s already happened. What we must do now is remedy it—rescue Gabriel as soon as possible," Isabella Ross punched Cooper lightly in the chest. "In your condition, how can you save anyone?"

"Mom, I am so useless—so utterly useless!" Cooper’s voice was hoarse, laced with unrestrained self-loathing.
